I don't agree with you partially, I agree with you completely :D It sucks that it's taking forever, but what I do like about a Mac is the ability to run Windows on it. I don't care much for Xcode, so when I'm writing an assignment in C++, I do it using Visual Studio. I have Windows on my machine for VS, SQL Server, and to play Counterstrike. As others have always said, you can sell the Mini you buy for a small loss, and just upgrade when the new one does finally come out.

For me selling doesn't work. I will have this bought for me from US - because in E Europe the prices are damn high.

Selling will be hard - people here ask for warranty and stuff - are very obsessed with it :)

By the way - I don't hate windows. I hate windows machines when it comes to everything else but gaming. I was also a C++ programmer.
I gave up that path along with PC machines :) It was too much for me :)

All the best mate! Let's hope things will come up before my friend goes to US. ;)

LOL, someone finally responded :) I still agree with my statement. Spinners are SLOW and outdated. The truth hurts.

The 5400 on my mini took minutes to boot up. My SSD seconds. Life is short.

I suspect this will be a moot point as soon as apple does a redesign. Mechanical drives are far and away the most unreliable component in a computer and apple is phasing them out.

Almost every post in this thread about people needing to upgrade now is because their drives are failing.

perhaps, but i would weary of proclaiming the immanent death of the HDD... SSDs are, and will probably remain for the near future, prohibitively expensive storage solutions. When a 1TB TB array costs over 1k... the average jane/joe will be hardly lining up to buy one...

similarly, making the mini SSD only option will at minimum raise the base price by the cost of the SSD... So i very much doubt that a new mini will not be HDD based. especially when a 120gig SSD for a desktop unit is today consider rather limited space... thus needing at minimum 250gig..

After my 2009 MBP died my plan was to go with a 2.6 I7 mini with the SSD and max out the ram myself untill i thought it would be quite frustrating having such up to date specs on everything but being stuck with the modest GPU , especially since an update is anticipated.

On the refurbished section i keep noticing the 2012 MBP comming up, 4gb ram 2.3 quad I7, 500 GB HHD, nvidia geforce gt 650m, with an optical drive. 20% off @ £1189 and i could upgrade the HHD to SSD, max out the ram, swap the optical drive for a second HHD or SSD and i would have a pretty decent laptop which would hopefully do me 4-5 years. Then in the mean time get my head around building a hackingtosh. Im begining to feel prisoner to apple waiting for the new Mini! And I'm not fond of the fact that the ram is soldered on to the mother boards of the new rMBPs. Could also be the future for the mini. I'm dont want to pay apple £160 for 4GBs more ram...

The US Apple Store's refurb section has pretty much every 2012 Mac Mini config back in stock again!

So tired of waiting. Went and bought 2 Mac Minis, one 2.3GHz i7, another 2.6GHz i7. Will put 8GB RAM in one, 16GB in the other; 256GB SSD in one, 512GB in the other.

These little beasts should last me for years to come, and if Apple does come out with something really compelling, I can always sell mine (Minis seem to hold value really well). Most importantly, the pressure is finally off :)

That's one thing I really like about the Mini, resale value. On Craigslist, at least in my area, you find them for about $50 to $75 off if they're the current model. Can't say the same for iMacs and MBPs.

Watch out! In this thread somebody will take that to mean the new Mac minis are about to be announced! :)

Congrats with your purchase. I just bought one the last time they were in the store (making it my 4th mini I'm using).

I usually just replace the drive. But it makes for a good excuse. How will people justify replacing their old computers in the future if there is nothing to wear out? Alternatively, a few years from now we will be reading about peoples' SSDs failing and complaining that at least their old HDDs made strange noises as a warning first.

Any updates on announcement/timeline for the refresh/2014 update of the Mac Mini? Somebody posted here a date of March 18th. Not sure why or if that was based in anything concrete. Any body have any idea's? I am waiting for the new Mini for the Iris Graphics and the updated Wi-fi with 'ac'.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

Nobody knows except for Apple. People have posted in here that It would be the following Tuesday since December 7th of last year. That makes 13 incorrect predictions so far. You might be waiting a week, you might be waiting a year.

In my experience, when the store is taken down for updates it has a placeholder and it is done at night... this looks more like a technical issue.

I figured. But I live in hope.

My plan is to wait until next Tuesday and if that's not the Tuesday I'm buying one (to replace my late 2009 model).

I do not agree. Going from a Mini 2,5 inch base drive to a 3,5 inch Seagate barracuda makes much more of an impression than from that barracuda to a Sammy 840 Pro. Those nasty fast 3,5 bitches are really capable.

Interesting to know. I've never used Barracuda drives, but I certainly noticed the difference between the stock 5400 rpm drives and SSD when I switched a while back.

Are the Barracuda drives 7200rpm?

Spinners are dead. Except for external storage. 5400, 7200 or 10,000 all handily beat by the mighty SSD.

Hey, at least I managed a post without using the word "Tuesday" :)

How many Tuesday's does it take to get a new mac mini?

Maybe that should be the title of this thread? :D

Yet are the most cost effective, and the most economical for GB per $. Which is something you want in a lower cost option.

Making the mini a disposable product would be a sad move. But then again, with Ive at the helm, form over function is the new path Apple has taken.

Can you wait until October?

If you buy a mini now, you will see a refresh in Sept/Oct. Most likely.

If you want "current" processors, the iMacs are the computers which Apple keeps current. Aside from financial reality, I wouldn't buy a current MacPro for a variety of reasons--wait for the next generations to get a truly worthy computer.

The dreams of a MacMini refresh in Q1 2014 are gone. Why a Q2 refresh seems logical is illogical. Knowing the 2-year refresh cycle Apple is now implementing in lower-end products, the October release date is almost concrete at this time.

It's just how it is. Buy now or buy later. Whining won't bring it faster.

Wow, I really didn't expect the 'wait for the next refresh' to start until AFTER this refresh was announced.

I don't think there is anything "concrete" about a Mini refresh.
