I'm not sure why I keep hoping for a new mini when I've been repeatedly disappointed since they removed the ODD and discreet graphic option; I guess I'm still naively holding on to some fabled xMac that we will never see - a headless iMac-level box that packs a little more punch and doesn't have all these silly limitations the current mini has.

For the record, I'm not a fan of the current super-slim iMacs either, this reliance on mobile parts to insure a slim design has gone a little too far IMO, but.. of course, I will be on the edge of my seat when a new mini comes out. Just in case. :)

Different strokes... I've got three 4 year old "white" minis as well as a new aluminum one. One of the old ones is a server, so no ODD. The other two were used as entertainment centers yet I never used the ODD on either of them. For all I know they don't even work! The new mini replaced one of the old entertainment centers and delivers superior video even with integrated graphics. The new design also eliminates the power supply block. The old mini is now used as a desktop computer for documentation at work.

You certainly want the fabled mini-tower Mac Pro, but it's obvious at this point it will never happen. Apple has always been a company of limited choices, at least since Steve Job's return.

How many Tuesday's does it take to get a new mac mini?

"Mister Turtle, How many Tuesdays does it take to get to the new Mac mini?"
"I've never made it without byte-ing. Ask Mister Owl."
"Mister Owl, How many Tuesdays does it take to get to the new Mac mini?"
"Let's find out. One, T-woo, three."

this thread reminds me of when everyone was waiting for the new Macbook Pros back in 2010 and then someone sent and email to Steve Jobs and got a reply with one word, does anyone remember what's that word? :D

eventually, they were announced in April.;)

No point in releasing Haswell based Mac mini, only to have it be outdated by soon to be out Haswell-refresh. I'd say, sit tight and wait for Haswell-refreash, (most likely mid 2014) for Mac mini.

There are no mobile chips in the Haswell refresh, hence why it also puts the MBA/MBP in a weird spot until Intel either throws in some refreshed Haswell chips or releases Broadwell earlier than announced.

Yep, and this is Apple 30 anniversary so you would think they would like to put out some special Macs for the occasion.

Haswell will have chipset refresh before Broadwell.

Wasn't there leaked road map showing Haswell refresh for mobile as well?

Not to burst bubbles but the iris pro graphics run on 65 watts at least on those smaller brix machines, not sure Apple would want to sacrifice the 35watt 45 watt current mini.

It seems like the Core i5-4310M and the Core i7-4610M are the likely candidates. They are mobile chips (which the minis use) and offer a bump in both clock speeds and gpu.

EDIT: Actually the i7-4610M is a dual core chip...hmmmm.

EDIT: Maybe the Core i7-4810MQ?

So wait a second, is the the info we should have been looking at all along for a possible mini refresh? Updated Haswell instead of Broadwell? Might make sense for an april\may\june refresh rather than a feb. march. like we were all hoping.
Yeah, that's what I was saying above. Haswell mini probably isn't going to be release. Instead, straight to refreshed Haswell sometime in the late 2Q or early 3Q.

I'm putting my money on April 1st announcement... just to keep us guessing...

At least this makes more sense than most of the rumors for the 2014 mini than what we have had so far, now to wait it out awhile longer or not is the question for me. I guess I've waited this long...the thought of an i7 with the Iris Pro GPU is definitely tempting.

Apple could wait until 2015 for a redesign with Broadwell since most of the other minis will have Broadwell next year because of IGPU for 4k like the NUC coming 4Q. Look how long it took to get a nMP.

It's possible they may just wait it out until Broadwell. But knowing that Broadwell is a 'tick' not a 'tock', we probably won't see significant increase in IGPU performance.
