Here's the exact quote from DF:

Important product? Ok. How about an update after 3 years ;-)

Fingers crossed...

PS: Ooops. Just noticed somebody already posted this but since it's so important I will leave the quote from Schiller up. Better twice than never, Apple.

LOL. Nothing against you posting the quote but this quote tells us nothing. "The Mac Mini is important.."......uh....thanks?

They had the frame of mind to mention the MP and iMac. How much harder would it have been to throw the mac mini there too? The article almost sounds like they were praying no one was going to ask about the mini.

Because the Mini doesn't really make them any money, hence why Apple took away the upgrade features on the 2014 Mini. The good news IS he did acknowledge that the mini is important to Apple which is great for us 2012 mini owners who'll get another OS upgrade.

I have no doubt we'll see another mini and it's reassuring to hear that Apple isn't abandoning it's Mac computers.

Lol @ how that statement about the Mac Mini is going to be overanalysed, so much so that people will claim the new Mac Mini will basically become a Thunderbolt enclosure for the new Modular Mac Pro or something.

Well, as I said before – it's too important to have a "build server" Mac model to discontinue Minis. :p

Looking forward to upgrade ours!

Would you rather have had "Can't innovate anymore, my ass!"
Oh well, the meaning of that phrase has just changed in Apple HQ...

Hey at least they'd be completely honest...which I can now respect. Lol

Everything apple does makes them money and a lot of it. Otherwise they wouldn't be doing any of this stuff. This acknowledgement was more of a "oh hey mini user didn't see you standing there." Its not a total abandonment, only a 4-5 year hiatus, hoping we can all hug it out when they return.

To me, the bigger news of the day is that Apple acknowledged that a "modular" design was important and something they are working on. Ideally, some of these fruits will also appear in the Mac Mini.

I doubt it. What do they mean by modular anyway?

Unfortunately, it's closing the barn door, after all the horses have left.

Yeah, I agree -- if Apple doesn't recognize that they've transitioned from needing to provide appropriate products to their existing userbase, to needing to reconstruct that userbase almost from scratch, they aren't going to get a whole lot of traction with their proposed new high-end desktops. Rather than urging people to upgrade, they're going to have to go through an entire new round of "think different" to get people back who've migrated to other manufacturers' machines...

I may buy a new Mac Mini as a media server and a backup to my hack if it uses Kaby Lake. If it can't stream 4k at 60Hz and it doesn't play Netflix 4k which requires Kaby Lake I'll buy a NUC.

I don't see it happening tho but hoping for the best. :)

Same here...Netflix 4K is Win 10 exclusive for the time being though...

I can watch Netflix 4K straight from my TV, but I'd like my Mini to be able to handle 10bit HEVC, so yeah, only a Mac Mini with Kaby Lake would do for me...

Apple really exhaust me on not paying attention to what a lot of people use the Mini for besides a basic home desktop. I like the idea of just turning it on and leave it run all the time.
The NUC would require checking to make sure updates were ok and occasional monitoring which isn't a big deal but offers many more features in Windows 10.

I upgraded my Windows 10 last night to the creators build and it's running rock solid with many new features and privacy settings.
