Sadly, I don't expect a new mini this year. Even with a re-design, I don't think that the mini will have a dedicated keynote, so it could be hooked in the WWDC alongside the 32inch iMac or in October event with the Mac Pro. I would vote for the seconds which will close the intel cycle.

I'm curious (and nervous) to know the plans here, because the rumoured smaller Mac Pro could compete with a M1 Max mini, so could be that they simply leave the mini as an entry platform (with M1,M2) and let the Mac Pro for really pro usage with the Pro and Max versions. Let see!

Mid-2022 or Fall 2022 is just too long to deny end users a Mac mini "Pro"...!

The "smaller Mac Pro" (what I am REALLY hoping is a new Cube) should have at least two of the maxed-out (10-core CPU / 32-core GPU / 64GB RAM) M1 Max SoCs within, so a step up from a M1 Max-powered Mac mini...?

I would expect a Mac Pro Cube with double the specs of a Mac mini with a maxed-out M1 Max SoC to be about two grand more, so $4999 for the entry-level Mac Pro Cube, where the aforementioned Mac mini (Pro) should run $2999 (both with a 1TB NVMe SSD)...

I’d say April ‘22 along side the 30” Big Mac.

I hope a bit sooner, but no later than April 15th (because that is my birthday)...! ;^p

If that’s the case, I’d bet we’d soon see Mods to put the internals of that hypothetical new Cube into the old acrylic shell (already feel the itch to gut the trusty old machine as preparation). Would be nice if Apple designers would consider the respective measurements where possible. After all, the Cube never got formally EOL’d ;-)

Thanks, now you got me looking at G4 Cubes for sale online...

EDIT: Okay, it is crazy out there...! Pricing from $200 to $1500, and every one has some sort of scratch or blemish somewhere...!

There was the NeXT Cube, then the G4 Cube, now the Mac Pro Cube...?!?

My ~$1,000 2007 iMac (which I gave to my brother) runs well and would likely run a lot better if it booted off of an external drive (the internal drives in that model were slow - 5300 RPM IIRC).
My 20 inch (2007) iMac only has 2 GB RAM.
It came with just 1 GB RAM.
It is useless no matter how you slice it.
It also developed an overheating issue.
Windows 7 (32-bit) worked in Boot Camp,
but had video issues.

I took a stab at possible M1 Pro/Max Mac mini prices based on the Macbook Pro upgrade prices. Since the current i5 model starts at $1,099 but only comes with 8GB of ram, I added $200 to the base price. Of course, Apple could surprise us and knock $100 off like they did with the M1 mini, but I'd rather assume the worst and be surprised. All configs below have the baseline 512GB of SSD as well.

Nice!

I too had predicted US$1299 retail for the base model Mac mini 16 GB with 512 GB SSD, 6+2 core CPU, 14 core GPU.

That's probably what I'd buy, but not because of the M1 Pro. I'd buy it because it will get more ports than the M1 non-Pro Mac mini, and I also suspect the M1 Pro Mac mini will get a new updated shell too.

BTW, up here in Canada, that would mean CAD$1649 retail, or CAD$1554 education. If it gets released in April, I may wait until June for the Back-To-School sale and get some "free" AirPods.

So i guess, the new mac mini will show up with the bigger imac in Q1 , since a remarkable leaker just told us that imac is an Q1 2022 thing

yep but... the actual M1 is in the old shell so... it was designed to keep up with intel thermals, this is a nice bonus in 'peace of mind' ;)

Are we able to ´guestimate´ a price for a Mac Mini with "M1 Pro" and eventually a "M1 Max" chip ?

I am still saving up for such a one, hoping for the first quarter of 2022.

My guesstimate for Mac mini 16 GB / 512 GB M1 Pro 8-core (6+2) with 14-core GPU is US$1299 (or maybe up to $1399) retail. Prices go up from there with any upgrades.

This is about what I would expect too. Basically take the 14" MBP and subtract around $700 (after all, you aren't getting the screen, keyboard, portability, etc offered by a laptop). So I'd expect a Mini with the top of the line M1 Max chip to be around $2500.

New rumor is in October 2022! Every two years, gets upgraded.

Yeah, no...

The Intel Mac mini that any M1 Pro / M1 Max-powered Mac mini would be replacing was released in 2018, so a year past your two year upgrade window as it is...

The mid/high-end Apple silicon Mac mini needs released as soon as supply constraints allow...!

No later than Spring 2022 (alongside the new 27" iMac), thanks Tim...! ;^p
