Predictions are something this thread doesn't seem to do well.

Looks like this thread is finally losing steam,

Everyone have a nice weekend, and make sure you come up with a believable excuse to miss work on Monday!

Trust me, a new mini is coming next week, or at least we have solid evidence to believe it.

All roads lead to October.

Losing steam? Several pages on, the thread still seems to be steaming on…. or is it just momentum carrying it forward now.

GabieleR unleashed a monster, but hasn't piped up here or anywhere else in the forum for months…… But still pops by to check it out from time to time, it seems.

What about all of Apple's potential lost sales?

It is nearly 2 months since the plug was pulled on XP. With 30 percent of computers still reportedly running XP at some point there are going to be a lot of people in the market for a new computer who clearly aren't chomping at the bit for the latest tech but can still likely recognize old, over-priced gear.

Apple should at least lower the price on the current mini to attract those customers ... unless it assumes all those xp users are migrating to iPads.

They'll probably using Windows XP for a while yet, and would be the least likely to make a switch to Mac and OS X.

With the current Mini being able to run the latest software, and a few generations ahead, it is still all the computer that many need. I don't know how it is priced compared to a similarly specced PC, loaded with Windows and productivity apps, ready to be useful.

I do know, that with iWork now installed, it is effectively cheaper to buy a Mini, ready to use now than it was a year ago. It is now now about 10% cheaper than it was when I bought my 2009 Mini, and I had to pay extra for iWork. It is about 20% cheaper than when I bought my 2005 Mini, and there was there was the cost of licensing the pre-installed Mac:Office on top of that.

Probably the only folk chomping at the bit for a new Mini are geeks with an eye for performance scores and tech tweaks.

That's all well and good but a 2 year old machine should be discounted at least $100 IMO. :)

Indeed. Anyone still running WindowsXP is unlikely to be the typical consumer Apple targets. If readers of this thread hadn't yet figured it out, Apple is decidedly not chasing the bargain-basement Walmart computer buyers. Value share and market share are very different things, and Apple is clearly seeking the former.

Reality is few people outside the propeller-head echo-chamber of MacRumors has any clue about Ivy Bridge, Haswell, Broadwell, etc. Except for a few marketing specs like storage and ramp and GHz, most regular folks simply don't know or care about anything other than "can it do what I want it to do for me."

When Apple updates the mini it'll be for reasons beneficial to Apple and on the timetable that suits them best.

That's all well and good but a 2 year old machine should be discounted at least $100 IMO. :)
Refurbs. :D

bad excuse for 2 year old tech selling at new tech prices.

I don't disagree with you, but for so long as enough people are willing to step up and buy it at the listed prices, Apple would be dumb to leave money on the table.

Again, most buyers don't know anything about "age of tech" -- they're just concerned with what the system does for them today rather than whether it's the latest thing out of the labs.

Apple loves their profits and doesn't need to do anything with the Mini if they don't want to.

I believe Mini owners are pretty Tech savvy and Apple probably see us as rebels. :)

Ooh! Ooh! I got it!

I've been doing this all rong. I'm going to go out and buy a lottery ticket. Then I can fantasize about using my winnings to buy a new mini, and at the same time fantasize about Apple releasing a new mini. It's starting to look as if I have the exact same chance of achieving either goal, but at least I can exercise what power I do have: parting with two dollars for the privilege of believing I'm making it happen. That's concrete action, man. Not just adding another post to a thread that surely can make it to 2000. We've still got time ...

This thread may eventually qualify as a religion.

Grandma! What is grandpa doing?

Well dear, he's waiting for the Mac Mini. I'm not exactly sure what to expect but your grandpa says it is going to be worth the wait.

Amen.

well the mini is finally slipping on amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-...-Desktop/zgbs/pc/565098/ref=zg_bs_nav_pc_1_pc

for the first 300 days on the list it was 1 or 2.

It is now number 8 last week it was 13 the week before it was 6.

pretty amazing the 580 day old tech still does so well against every desktop sold on amazon.

It sells because it can drive a 1080p tv set very well for movies and streaming.
It is a very popular HT pc.
Always goes back to as long as most people don't have a 4k tv screen it will sell well. Apple is not stupid and will ride this gravy train to the bitter end.

It seems to me that if the mini is the "entry way" in to the Mac ecosystem, it would certainly behoove them to keep it.

It is precisely what got me into the Mac arena. I like using my own monitor. I have always disliked the iMac. All in one's are not for me.

As a 20 year Windows user, I have gotten to like many things about OSX. Not everything, that is for sure. For instance, why do they continue to make the damn red green and yellow lights so damn small? It requires twice the fine motor control that clicking the nice big square X's in Windows does. It is really a PAIN IN THE ASS to work with those idiotic shaped circles. So retro 1990 ish.

Point is that they should never ever discontinue the mini. That would be a truly stupid play. And, they must know that the mini has some of the fiercest users so although new users do not necessarily want/need the very latest, it is a proven fact in business that taking care of your old customers as well as new is a successful strategy.

So Apple, how about some love for us loyal users in the form of an updated mini?

Still waiting . . .

No kidding.
Reality is something this thread doesn't do well, either. (He said as he become post #1787).

Your occasional posts do add to the thread, numerically at least. However a simple soul, such as myself, has difficulty with this concept of reality that you mention. A little elucidation would be welcome.

Now, there have been over 120 posts in this thread since about this time last week. It is time to turn in, and if I awake it will be Tuesday.

Never noticed, but having used unix/Xwindows long before started using Win3.1, OS/2 Warp, or even WIn95 I'm more of a keyboard guy so I don't use them. Guess I'm retro 1986ish... :)

Command-W to close windows, Cmd-Q to close the app, Cmd-M on the rare occasion I might minimize a window, Cmd-Tab to cycle through programs, Cmd-` to cycle through windows of an program.

The flaw there is that Cmd-Q is too close to Cmd-A. I use Cmd-A a lot and occasionally hit the Q. The Windows method of closing apps with the red X is so much easier and more reliable.

Now there's a true PEBKAC issue... :) I imagine that's frustrating. Probably be a good idea to remap the Cmd-Q shortcut if it's causing you difficulties.

Can't say as I remember ever having that issue and I use Cmd-A lots (and Cmd-W, Cmd-Q, Cmd-X, Cmd-Z, Cmd-Tab, etc.) Tab, Q, W, and Z are all the same distance from the A key.

I get that. Old habits die hard.

Nevertheless, I hope in their infinite wisdom they fix the issue in the new OSX coming this Fall.

Along with the new mini of course! Unless they slipstream the new mini to us before then :)

...same reasons for me. The Mini ended up being an entry level machine into the Mac arena. I needed a flexible and inexpensive Mac to prove to myself how it could work for me. Since my first 2011 Mini I have moved most of my family and business to Mac from PCs. Where Windows is still needed we use VMs. Two years after getting that first Mini there are now four Minis and two Macbook Pros.

i am mixed use. mac and pc. i need to do both.

tired of buy an imac talk as the screens are not what I want. I like the mini.

I still think they should drop the imac 27 inch and make the 24 inch imac the bottom of the line product

with a max mini next and the mp on top
