This thread may eventually qualify as a religion.
Amen.

Perhaps the new Mini of Mac will be borne in glory, cradled in the innumerable holy arms of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

I believe it will come. The mini is the perfect bridge for someone who's used to the monitor-box-keyboard incarnations of the PC, especially when the box is kaput but the monitor still works. Plus OSX looks more like Windows than the new Windows does.

The new Mac mini is coming

I'm building a small, low-cost and low-power gaming PC. That means the new Mac mini is bound to arrive in a few days since I no longer have any money to buy one.

With a gaming PC, I won't care if they use a dedicated GPU or not in the next Mac mini. In fact, my current Core 2 Duo Mac mini is enough for what I do. Even if the new Mac mini came out tomorrow, I wouldn't be interested in buying one any time soon.

Blame it on Apple, blame it on Intel's delay of Broadwell, I don't care anymore. And after seeing Intel's NUC and AMD's Brix computers, I'm even hoping Apple will go even smaller so that my next Mac mini Mac nano will fit in my pocket. Given the size of AMD's Brix, I'm guessing the future Mac mini/Mac nano could be the size of an Apple TV and more affordable than ever.

i am mixed use. mac and pc. i need to do both.

tired of buy an imac talk as the screens are not what I want. I like the mini.

I still think they should drop the imac 27 inch and make the 24 inch imac the bottom of the line product

with a max mini next and the mp on top

I don't like "Win 8" only machines. The updates are exhausting. Most of my updating time spent on my Macs are for the Win 8 and 8.1 VMs. I am planning to purge my Macs of Win VMs as much as possible in the future. Win 9 can't arrive soon enough next year.

I am getting used to OS X more every day. I believe it is a better desktop OS for security and stability. I really like how Apple supports their products. I have Apple Care extended warranties on all my Macs.

I am not a fan of iMacs either. I think all in one desktop and monitor iMacs are an aging design with limited flexibility. I can foresee future Mini's or another newer Mac micro design in a smaller form factor that hangs on the back of monitors and hides below next gen HDTVs.

Been reading this thread forever, it seems, so I had to finally get in on it. When I bought my mini last year, I remember wondering if I should wait for a new release - I'm happy I didn't.

Would like to pick up a couple more - but will wait until an update that seems to never be coming. If they don't release a new Mac Mini, I honestly don't know what I will eventually purchase. I have my fingers crossed...

I feel really bad for the people who have been waiting since this thread started. You can just never tell with the mini. When a new one is released, it seems a great time to purchase since they seem to keep the product cycle so long with the mini...

Proposal of X Prize

I propose that whoever manages to make post #2000 in this thread be permitted to name the actual release date of the new Mini. Apple, you will abide, right?

2GB of ram is not enough for ANY modern computer to function well.

I had a 2010 Mini which I updated to a 2012 model as soon as it came out. It was serving perfectly fine, but managed to get a buyer who payed really nice price, so I just though "why not".

I haven't thought about a new one at all until a couple of months back. This Mini is perfect for almost any task. It's got the 2.6 i7 with a 256GB SSD. Custom 1TB drive and 16GB of RAM installed too.

BUT. For certain tasks this machine isn't enough. I recently started to work with FCPX and it's fully usable until it comes to the time of importing, applying effects and exporting. Using it is great, no big lag, but processing times aren't the greatest tbh.

Also I recently installed a Windows 7 partition to enjoy a couple of games I wanted to play and damn... that integrated HD4000 graphics is killing me. Everything on low and still won't do over 25-30 fps.

I guess my point is, if you need a more powerful Mini (like I do), you're probably looking for an iMac, as there's never gonna be a Mini which can compete with an iMac. Apple doesn't want to mix product lines. Why haven't the iPod Touch or the iPhone got radio as the Nano has for instance? A Mini won't get a dedicated GPU just as it won't get as powerful CPUs as the iMacs.

My student card, which gives me a 12% discount at Apple, will expire in late 2016 I think. I'll then buy a maxed out iMac and dual screen it until it dies.

Point taken, but I politely disagree. Only because it depends on which iMacs you are comparing. I don't need it to be as powerful as a top tier iMac, but could use one that matches bottom tier specs. I know that in my heart of hearts I really could use a nMP, but I can't afford it and don't want another monitor for at least another 3 or 4 years, thus no iMac.

I'm giving it until Christmas. If nothing, hackintosh mini her I come.

It seems to me that if the mini is the "entry way" in to the Mac ecosystem, it would certainly behoove them to keep it.

It is precisely what got me into the Mac arena. I like using my own monitor. I have always disliked the iMac. All in one's are not for me.

...same reasons for me. The Mini ended up being an entry level machine into the Mac arena. I needed a flexible and inexpensive Mac to prove to myself how it could work for me. Since my first 2011 Mini I have moved most of my family and business to Mac from PCs. Where Windows is still needed we use VMs. Two years after getting that first Mini there are now four Minis and two Macbook Pros.

Strongly share these views. No doubt, many others feel similarly. My main work computer is my 2011 Mini, attached to a large anti-glare screen. For me it's a powerful enough workhorse for most things, bar more graphically-demanding tasks. I also use a W8 desktop PC for gaming, et al, connected to another large anti-glare screen. No issues with Windows 8, though I prefer OS X. :)

Having owned an iMac previously, I'd never again buy any AIO for personal use, Mac or PC. The reflective screens alone made work difficult for me. If Apple discontinued the Mini, which I'd find an astonishing decision considering Tim Cook's previously expressed ambitions to attract even more switchers, my only resource in future would be buying refurbished Minis for as long as I could.

But with no Mini update now for a record (& increasingly ridiculous) 596 days, it seems far more likely that a significant redesign will be unveiled fairly soon. If so, one only hopes that Mr Ive hasn't put style over substance & turned an excellent, small desktop computer into one that's totally non-user upgradeable.

With what I am now seeing about Intel's plans for Broadwell - releasing only the Mobile line of low-end and ultra-low power CPUs in September/October and delaying the quad-cores that we're used to seeing in Minis for another year - I think I'm going to have to blink and buy the late 2012. /sigh

Wait until the iMac rumor is confirmed about 10 days or less.

then look for a 2012 at the best price you can get.

Rumor that they are refreshing iMacs next week... let's hope for mini's as well.

Honestly, I'm not sure what Apple is waiting for.
1. Quad-core Broadwell won't be available until Feb 2015 and I'm sure mini's won't be the first off the line to get them.
2. Is Apple still deciding on whether to switch to their own A series chips?
3. Perhaps still working out either a new design or added functionality?

I feel if mini's are going to get broadwell eventually, then it seems like they should refresh now with haswell since it has a similar architecture. I don't think that Apple would put broadwell into their mini's until all the macbook pros have them.

So I'm crossing my fingers for mini soon, but it could be a long wait.

Intel has screwed the whole refresh cycle up so it hard to tell what's going to happen.
A long wait may be the more accurate answer.

One time maybe fall of 2009 the mac mini was updated ahead of the 13 inch macbook pro. so from 2009 to feb 2010 the mac mini was more powerful then a 13 inch mac pro.

This could happen this year I would like to think it could happen and the mini gets the better cpu earlier then the mac pro.

I suspect that Apple has redesigned the Mini for Broadwell and are stuck waiting for chips. :)

Technically the new haswell has the same architecture as the broadwell... If the new redesign has gotten rid of the fan, then I can see why they wouldn't just stick a haswell in it until the broadwell was available.

A Hackintosh is a pain in the ass. Haven't been there mainly because everything I've been told about it and almost any story you read online. The day you get the 95% of stuff working is the same day Apple releases an updates which leaves you without audio and 3D acceleration for instance.
