It's been a few hard months for us waiting on the new Mini.

But to be honest, the only thing that makes me not buy the current one is that damn HD 4000...I just can't pay full price for that...the difference in performance vs the Iris Pro is just too much!

EDIT - Page 93 and counting!

How much difference is between HD 4000 and HD 5200 ?

Basically double the performance.

HD 4000 - 456 Score - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Intel+HD+4000

I think you mean a few hard years.

I wish Apple would just officially say they are discontinuing it.

If Apple discontinues the Mac mini, I'll have to switch away from OS X and I don't want to do that.

Unless of course, they come up with a MacBook mini at 599$CAD.

Hoping so, otherwise I will be buying the next decent refurbished one that pops on and adding SSD and ram.

Which is the smart move considering how stupid this tread is. If you need this model for whatever reason, get it and use it. Updates come when they do and people who pine on about the next model are retarded IMO.

When should I buy
When is the next
When, When, When

I don't know, but if you need to pee, here's a bottle - close the cap when you're done - OK?

Sorry, but this sht gets old on this forum. Consider how each model is just a tiny bit better than the one before it for the entire history of all Macs and then consider how no one seems to realize what a small difference it makes in real world performance or needs.

You don't understand. This thread has nothing to do with the Mac Mini or even Apple. It's neurotic recreation. It's the ultimate MR thread. The Mini is not coming back. But for 2300+ posters, it's alive! It's alive! Isn't it? People need fairy tales.

Hi,

haven't been around in a while. Here in Italy we are completely out of stock again: i checked all the major suppliers but considering the last time i'm not holding my breath for a refresh .

All i'm saying is that the new Mac mini is perhaps coming.

I believe you.

but is good to know the Thread Starter is still around. :)

maybe the only real reason for the delay of the new Mac mini, was the release of the new Mac Pro.
sure there's plenty of room between those 2 products but if a new mini would have been released side by side the new Mac Pro, some potential Mac Pro buyers would have gone the mini way (and apple wanted to prohibit that)

It could be that they are waiting on Yosemite for some reason.

I'm not saying it's likely, just that it is possible.

Welcome back, we missed you ! Perhaps isn't as catchy as almost certainly - I don't think we would have got to 2300 posts with perhaps :p

The Legend (as in, the person who managed to create a Mac Mini thread that is closing in on 100 pages, 500.000 views and 2.500 comments) has returned. Welcome back! :p

It can depend a lot on the use case too, even the HD 4600 iGPU's can be close to double the performance of the HD 4000, it depends how memory bound the graphics are, i.e - spending more time loading textures vs processing shaders, as in the latter case the 4600 is already quite a bit faster, while the 5200 adds that fast cache to alleviate memory issues.

So yeah, the Iris Pro may come in consistently double or more of the HD 4000, but even the 4600 can approach double the 4000's performance for less memory hungry games etc. It's why so many people are considering (or have already switched to) hackintosh Mac Mini replacements, as while you can't get an Iris Pro part, even those that you can get are generally a better.

Interesting, I didn't know that! Thank you for sharing the info!
I've been looking at the hackintosh possibility to be honest. But when looking at the buyer's guide on a well known hackintosh website, they don't have the processors that have the Iris Pro, but they do have the ones with the HD 4600, so I might look into that now :)

I love what you have done you made the longest in time maybe not post's threads about a new mini coming.

I do not want it to come until dec or jan so that your thread will have taken a year to get the new mini.

My goal is to start the earliest ever thread when and if this one comes out. I plan to ask the same day we can order the 2014/2015 about the 2016 mini and if it will have better graphics/soldered ram/solder ssd etc.

On a trip, I stopped in an Apple store. When I told the guy at the front I was there to see the new Mac mini, he said "Good Luck." Lots of everything on display, and one mini and one Mac Pro, each hooked up to ye olde Thunderbolt Display. An update is definitely overdue, but you can see it's not much of a priority, not yet anyway.

I hope that new mac mini will not contain power brick inside the body. My 2011 mini is so loud when working.

That's the main reason why i want to update it. Another reason is i need USB 3.0 ports.
