I am very unhappy with the IOS5 upgrade, not only did I lose a lot of information (all my saved copies of the Wall Street Journal are gone), but they deleted the iPod player - now Music. I listen to podcast at 2x speed. Now they play at 1/2 speed. Can not find how to change speed and the screen controls are not as flexible. I would love to go back to the old IOS. I listen to a lot of podcast and this is a step back.

Any idea how to fix??????

iPad or iPhone. Explain.

Oh yeah. On the iPad. I don't have my iPhone yet to see how I feel.

Where is the sidebar? Why is the only way to browse my music by pictures of albums covers? I know it is mostly personal preference buy why totally remove these types of options. It seems less intuitive to me.

Yes, give Apple feedback on the issue.

Then afterwards you can put your iPod in DFU mode and restore to the old iOS 4.3.

Tap in the center so the controls come up, and you'll see 1/2X. Press it. Yay! 1X! 2X!

Also, the wall street journal articles you've previously downloaded, you can redownload.

One thing I have noticed is that my main Purchased Playlist is now ordered back to front! :s - I think when I get my 4S I will be starting from scratch.

Oh yes, I agree... the music app on the iPad is bloody awful.

I actually made my feelings known using the developer feedback function during the iOS 5 beta stage but seemingly no-one cared.

I think the previous version was much prettier, easier to use and find/navigate music. For example, if you try to find say 'Metallica' - you have to tap artists and rather than having a list of text to scroll down through, you have to scroll down through bucket loads of album art and either recognise a relevant album cover or read the small text beneath. Nowhere near as quick to find stuff as it used to be.

I also hate the control buttons at the top, they look ugly and seem very out of place in an official app.

I used to like the fact that the iPad app was very similar to iTunes on the desktop, I'm really annoyed they changed it to this... monstrosity.

If they'd even keep the previous style in landscape mode that would be one thing, but it's the same awful layout no matter which orientation you use.

Boo!

I think the word for it is JOKE. Totally unusable at the moment. Doesn't sync with the store, no sort button, no new eposides button, no fast forward, album art work is a lottery, and lost podcasts.

I like rating my music.

Ratings seem to get pushed further down each iteration. In iOS 5, it's hard to find them, and you can't sort play lists by them (that I've found) or see them when picking which song to play next.

Do I "hate" the new music app? Nah, it's okay. I was hoping it would be a bit better, and bring a bit more functionality to the table.

apple have stood a step back in terms of music app on the iPad, I haven't used it yet but it seems to be it just seems like a giant version of the iPhone one, except the fact you can only view via the album covers etc

I loved the older one were it looks like the mac iTunes app, more "complex", organised, professional looking etc

when you're playing a podcast, tap the centre of the screen once. that brings up the scrubbing, jump-back and speed settings.

I agree with most of your dislikes. I don't understand about finding "Metallica" on my IPad in all views on the right side is the alphabet , I just touch M ;)

I am looking at my iPad 2 and my iPhone. the iPhone has the 1x icon for the playback speed of a podcast. the iPad 2 does not. same podcast on both devices. I truly do not know why Apple has the playback speed on one device and not on the other. time to leave feedback...

I agree. Not happy with the iPad music app at all. As someone else said, I'm experiencing the album art lottery. My phone has all the artwork, but the iPad is missing several random ones. And I really loved browsing my music in landscape before. I could pick a playlist on the left, then still sort that playlist alone by album, artist, etc. I'm not happy that they took that away. Hopefully it changes.

on my iPads I have lost the 1x, 2x, 1/2x playback speed functionality for Podcasts. this irks me as I always tended to listen at 2x playback speed. yet the playback speed is present on my iPhone. Apple has really screwed up the Music app in my mind. There is no consistancy between the iPhone music app and iPad music app. very un-Apple like. going to leave feedback with Apple on this.

I agree with all of this. I loved the ability to be able to browse my music how I wanted to. This looks like some thirst rate media player trying to be contemporary. I feel like they removed everthing that made it comparable to a full featured media player like itunes. Not just some generic stripped down tablet player.
