The music app FINALLY displays albums with various artists correctly! :D Earlier it ignored 'album artist' tag and displayed all different artists in the "Artists" list, but not anymore - now it displays only album artist in the "Artists" list.

For some reason it only will play my purchased itunes music... it won't play any other music. Anyone else having this problem?

I agree with a lot of the complaints here...There was room for much improvement in the previous music app, but this one seems like a step backwards.

:/

my Sony stereo on my car seems to have stopped recognising my iPhone thanks to the iOS5 update. I used to be able to navigate through songs on the head unit but it just says "error" or something like that.
great. £200 down the swanny !!!!!!!
anyone know how i might be able to get this fixed :(?

yeah not impressed with the 'music' changes. My personal pet peave is the change in appearance, and the fact that now all your artists are now just album artwork grid style, rather than the nice clean scrolling list. Hopefully they'll give you an option to go back to the other style in 5.1 if enough people complain?

Clunky, inconsistent, and WTF seem to be common themes for iOS5 on the iPad.

It is unbelievable how bad this music app is, so much so that I don't see a proper update coming for a long while. Can anyone name any good alternatives?

Oh yeah. On the iPad. I don't have my iPhone yet to see how I feel.

Where is the sidebar? Why is the only way to browse my music by pictures of albums covers? I know it is mostly personal preference buy why totally remove these types of options. It seems less intuitive to me.

All music appears in cover flow now?? I hope that's not the case on the iphone too...
Why do they REMOVE features, instead of just adding or improving? I don't get it..

I goofed. i meant browsing artists. They used to be in a detailed list. now it is the same artwork grid like when you browse for albums.

Tap in the center so the controls come up, and you'll see 1/2X. Press it. Yay! 1X! 2X!

Also, the wall street journal articles you've previously downloaded, you can redownload.

Do you have a iPad 1 or 2? Taping in the center does not work on my iPad 1. I have tried many times. Anyone else with an iPad 1 having trouble?

Also, I can download the last week of the WSJ, but I had a month of journals saved. I was busy last month and was behind on my reading. I can not download those without paying iTunes.

Cover Flow

Cover flow in the music app is really laggy and slow on my iPhone 4. Anyone else have the same issue?

Part of me likes the new interface better, makes it more uniform with iTunes but I hope they bring the lyrics back. I don't really understand why they split the music and video either. Not a fan of that change.

I thought I noticed the same thing, thought I was crazy.

Man - this is terrible!! Does anyone know if this is just a bug? Did it work in previous betas? Does it work on the iPhone after iOS 5?

Tony

It's a bug... some of my songs have lyrics and some don't. Some play music and some don't. If you have this problem you have to do a complete restore.

On the iPad, you actually have songs that show lyrics?

Just want to completely verify before I do a restore. Wait, BS. I shouldn't have to do a frickin' restore just to show lyrics

What's with all the album art? I stopped caring about album art when I switched from LPs to CDs. (Oops I dated myself.)

On the iPad, If you're looking at playlists, you can't tell if you're looking at a folder with playlists in it, or just a playlist.

In the list view, the button to go back a view is on the top left. If you're looking at the playing song's album cover, the button to go back is on the bottom right?

If you're in the list view in a non-genius playlist and hit the genius button for the song playing, nothing appears to happen, except the little speaker icon next to the playing song goes away. You're actually now playing the genius playlist, but you have to hunt back through the playlists to find it. If you already in a genius playlist and create a new one, the list view refreshes.

I don't like the new music app either on my iPad. I would rather they had improved or given more options on the old iPod app rather than redo the whole thing.
