Apple needs to get hammered on this so they get their act together. This isn't just a couple little annoying tweaky things, just NOT acceptable.
The music app FINALLY displays albums with various artists correctly! Earlier it ignored 'album artist' tag and displayed all different artists in the "Artists" list, but not anymore - now it displays only album artist in the "Artists" list.
Agree, I just got around to playing with the new music app... wtf... why would they changed something that worked so smooth and good before, to the pos app it is now??? Now I know what people were complaining about, what a crappy setup. How Jobs or the development team let this pass through is shocking.Wow. I don't use the music player on the iPad much. Maybe this is why Apple didn't get much feedback on it? Most people don't use the iPad as a music player.
Anyway, yes, it's horrible! You can't switch to a list view for anything but "Songs" view, and it's slower and clunkier than before.
I'm surprised this crap got past beta stage. I'm even willing to use it as evidence that Steve Jobs wasn't around when it was being developed, because I doubt he'd let a pile of festering dung like this fly.
I suggest *everyone* send feedback to Apple about this travesty. This is a bit scary and I hope it's not a new direction Apple is taking...
Its like the Dev Team was drunk and on shrooms, otherwise nobody in their right mind would have set the new app up the way it is now
I realize Apple probably did this to be uniform with the iPod Touch, but calling it a "Music" app on my iPhone is ridiculous when it is used for podcasts and audiobooks. That isn't music.
They should have just kept the "iPod" icon as it was previously. Not a huge deal but an odd decision by Apple IMO. Also I kinda liked how the iTouch was clearly different than the iPhone given that "Music" app icon.
This isn't what we're complaining about. On the iPad, and ONLY the iPad, the music player app has been completely changed from being mostly acceptable to a steaming pile of rubbish.
Changing the name of the app and the icon isn't a big deal at all. Thankfully they left the player untouched on the iPhone and iPod Touch; I think they realize if they HAD changed it, everyone would be crying bloody murder. I suspect most people don't listen to much music on their iPads; it's a bit unweildy as a music player. The only reason I even have my library loaded is for the dJay app.
I can see why they renamed it to "Music" from "iPod". It's completely unusable for podcasts or audiobooks anymore.
- You can't resort the bottom tab bar, so you must always click "More" to get to podcasts/audiobooks
- They removed the ability to display lyrics, which is where most podcasts put their show notes
- You can't see which episodes are unplayed anymore, so if you have a podcast with tons of episodes, good luck remembering which ones you already listened to
- They removed the play speed options so you can only listen at 1x speed (and some people only at 1/2x speed, but that seems to be a bug and not an intended "feature")
- They removed the ability to display chapters and to jump to a specific chapter
- They removed the "Get more episodes" option, so you must go to the iTunes store to manually search for your podcast to download more episodes without a PC
I don't know how the new app is for music since I don't listen to music on my iPad, but for podcasts it's completely ruined. I wonder if someone makes a music app that mimics the old interface if Apple will approve it (I won't hold my breath).
The wifi part of airplay seems to be a lot more robust. I am able to navigate my large iTunes library without having the iPod app crash on me. I have a rather large library and it is handling it a lot better. The interface is ok. But as long as I can play my music without having to put it on the device I am a happy camper!

You can resort the bottom bar to what you want. Not sure why you are stating that.
Show notes still appear for me in podcasts. Perhaps it's something in your settings or there was an issue loading iOS 5 on your device.
I can see what episodes have been played entirely already.
"Get More Episodes....." is absolutely still there.
I have no idea what you are talking about. Again, either you experienced problems loading iOS 5 or you are simply mistaken. By default after loading iOS 5 everything I've listed remains intact.
