I'm not updating to iOS 5 precisely because of the bad feedback on this app.

Yes. The new music player absolutely sucks. There is nothing at all better in it than the old player, and I didn't even like the old player all that much.

Yeah its basically the same as the old player. Just a different layout. I prefer the new layout, but they can do a lot better. It doesn't need to be separated to music and video either. Why not make an in depth media player for a change?

Lyrics

Lyrics do show on the iPhone 4 w/iOS 5.0 update. You must have songs with lyrics to show otherwise it will just show the album cover. :)

Cannot validate on iPad as no one has given me one yet:eek:

Lyrics work fine for you on the iPAD after the iOS 5 update? No way.

If so, are you just tapping the album art as in iOS 4 or doing something different?

Tony

Sorry, using an iPhone 4, not iPad. The thread seemed to be discussing both.

I don't think they are on the iPad. This has been a noted omission since the first developer build. It would be amazing if it worked just for you.

By "noted omission" do you mean that Apple intended to exclude lyrics permanently on the iPad, or was this a bug to be fixed in a future version?

Tony

Podcast

Has anyone figured out how to speedup Podcasts on an iPad. Mine is at 1/2 speed. I usually listen at 2x. Does anyone know of a good podcast player? Is anyone else having trouble listening to podcast on their iPad?

They haven't officially stated it but it sounds like it is intentional. I guess it has been absent since the first beta and still hasn't been addressed. That sounds deliberate

Wow - So it's never coming back? Why the heck would they do that? It makes no sense. Now I wish I hadn't upgraded.

If they take this away from the iPhone, I'm switching to Android. Really.

Tony

So wait.. are you guys saying there's no way to scroll and search easily like "artist", and now you have to know the album art/cover? gotta be kidding me, what would be the reasoning behind that? I didn't transfer music yet so didn't know that.

I can already forsee Apple Fan boy response - "Apple has a reason for everything they do"

You can still search via the box in the bottom, right-hand corner of the app.

You can still see the Artist name under the cover art and you can choose the alpha index on the right to scroll to the area quickly. It's still MUCH worse that the old app, but at least it's not as bad as cover flow.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I upgraded and I was just shocked at how bad the new version is on iPad. No lyrics, all the views limited to cover art, the weird way you have to click on the tiny album art at the top to get to the view of the album track listing, star ratings being even more buried then before... Honestly, I can't remember ever running an app from apple before and having it so bad that it actually made me a bit angry.

The music player was my least favorite app in the old version and one of the first things I checked out hoping to see a big improvement. Wow, I just can't believe how bad they drop the ball.

Apple REALLY needs to fix this app, and fast. It's bad enough that I'm really considering going back to iOS 4. Really, that bad.

I meant moreso like before I could just quickly scroll through tons of songs/artist and find one like "hey I'll put that on"... now it seems it's a pain as the album cover clutters it... ?

They took out the ability to see lyrics. Poop.

Yes, this is one of my main beefs - although I agree with most of the other gripes too. For me, the lyrics were a convenient practice device, and I have gone to a lot of trouble editing them into many songs in iTunes. Rats!

I just realized we're stuck on icons and there's no list to scroll up and down through. That does suck. There should be a view option.

Has anyone had any trouble when listening to Audiobooks on the iPad..... Mine will only play one track at a time and then stop, I have to tap the second chapter to play it!!

The wifi part of airplay seems to be a lot more robust. I am able to navigate my large iTunes library without having the iPod app crash on me. I have a rather large library and it is handling it a lot better. The interface is ok. But as long as I can play my music without having to put it on the device I am a happy camper!

Apple needs to get hammered on this so they get their act together. This isn't just a couple little annoying tweaky things, just NOT acceptable.

Sent. Seriously, I can't believe how much Apple dicked this up. I don't mind the layout too much, but am just mad they took lyrics out. It's little features like this that are a given nowadays, and for Apple to omit it is just crazy.

I like rating my music.

Ratings seem to get pushed further down each iteration. In iOS 5, it's hard to find them, and you can't sort play lists by them (that I've found) or see them when picking which song to play next.

Do I "hate" the new music app? Nah, it's okay. I was hoping it would be a bit better, and bring a bit more functionality to the table.

Your rate the songs in iOS 5 the exact same way you did in the previous iteration. On the Now Playing screen, tap the upper right corner list icon.
