I keep getting this message every so often:

aim: *screenname* has been disconnected or something like that

What is going on?

Exactly... thanks for restating it. Trust me, you will hear people complain about this when they realize it. Like you stated, if your in the app and the phone sleeps or you press the sleep button, you will not know you received an IM.

Try it...

Settings>Beejive>Ringer when inactive, Thats always been there and will solves that problem.

I've had a few disconnects too. I am hoping it is just a hic-up. This phone is so close to being usable for me, if they could just get the instant message thing to work

I wonder if the yahoo problem can be solved server side or if we'll have to wait for apple to review another update.

Looks like over the past week Yahoo helpfully started changing the way their servers authenticate user logins (or some other aspect of their protocol), simultaneously binning a lot of non-official Yahoo clients (i.e. all the ones people actually use). I think it's something they do every once in a while to keep the open source community on its toes. They've also started "retiring" some of the older official clients, forcing you to upgrade to one of the newer bloatware clients (full of cross-marketing, corporate firewall-unfriendly video and voice chat, etc.).

It's knocked out the JiveTalk client, Beejive's BlackBerry cousin, too. Curiously IM+ is still working but perhaps those guys were quicker off the mark in terms of reacting to the Yahoo changes.

Because most of the messaging work is done on the Beejive servers, the fix will be done there and hopefully won't require a new app to be submitted.

One thing I noticed and don't like, could be a bug or oversight, is when your in the Beejive application and you shut your phone off (sleep/wake button) you don't receive a push notification because it's acting like your still in the app.

Anybody else notice this?

Unfortunately, that's a limitation of the push notification framework and will be the same for all apps: the iPhone does not generate an alert for an app that's open.

This update is great and the push notifications really make it worthwhile as opposed to having to relaunch the app, check if there's new messages, etc. This made Beejive even more great.

Just upgraded to v3 and tested it. The notifications are really cool.

Everything works apart from yahoo, but then I think yahoo changed something recently as I could not login to it via adium a few days ago until I changed the server name.

Probably that is the problem.

I'm probably jumping the gun, it was working and I received several push notifications from someone via Yahoo, but now it's not logging me in again. Sounds like they're testing and taking it up / down, so may want to wait until they officially announce the patch.

[Or it could have been that I randomly hit one of the Yahoo IPs that has yet to be upgraded -- I noticed in some other forums, relating to open source libraries that connect to Yahoo, that some of the servers were still allowing access under the old scheme.]

i haven't gotten any push notifications.
why?

I have been having the same problem. At home I have little to no coverage from ATT so I rely solely on WiFi for data/email. I noticed this morning that once I am connected to the 3G network I get the notifications. Are there any special settings that a WiFi router needs to get the push notifications? Like certain mapped ports, etc?

had been working very well with facebook and msn, but decided to not let me log into any accounts this morning.

all i was getting was the spinning wheel of death.

deleted and redownloaded several times but when i added accounts and clicked available, it only briefly highlighted it and stayed checked at offline. anyone else noticing this? any thoughts as to whats wrong?

I was going off WiFi all last night and it was working fine for me. I'm running a Dlink router with no special settings.

I've been running AIM, Facebook and Gtalk since I downloaded it last night. I woke up to a push notification saying I had been signed out of AIM, but I was able to log right back in with no problem. I've been logged in ever since and have been receiving push notifications.

Not sure if it was just me but you can go ahead and turn off push in email, you will still get the notifications. I thought push was the master switch but now it only involves email. None my my email account support push so i can save the battery a little bit more.

beejive with push is really nice. Today i noticed facebook was disconnecting a little bit but i suspect it was just FB, as the rest of my accounts are ok. Now if they just fix the "link contact" bug we will be grand.

I'm getting the spinning wheel now, worked for msn and gtalk this morning. They must be doing something with their servers I think.

ok so yahoo is now working for me - but everytime someone sends me a message i get it twice. - grrrrrr but the good news is the push finally works - yippie

it seems to be very flacky - sometimes i connect - sometimes i get an error - but the messages always double up - so beejhive has some work to do.

This thread made me do it!

This thread made me $10 poorer, all the hype on here made me part with 10 bucks and it's all worth it. I think.

I have 2 yahoo accts, 1 facebook, and 1 aim and gtalk all connected and working. Sweeeet

Quick question though, does beehive connect to each respective servers, or they go through beehive servers? Is there privacy issues to be considered?

Thanks

Just tried login out and back in and I seem to be able to login no problem now. Just have to wait for a couple of hours for someone in the US to wake up and send me test IM
