Just make the freaking RAM user upgradable!

Bonus points for user upgradable M.2 PCIe SSD.

It won't be. Even Dell, HP and others are more and more going to be soldered on (RAM). Apple will use their own interface for the SSDs I guess. It makes no sense to drop it suddenly after a few years of use. Partially I min and partially I don't mind, with 16gb and 256/512gb it will be enough for 99% of the people. Others can always upgrade to the 1tb or get an external drive.

You know why mac’s are used in the music/film/radio/tv/recording industry?

U know how many millions of headphones, amplifiers, TV’s, game controllers, radios, mp3’players etc. have a 3.5mm jack?

What do you think ppl use, to listen to music on ?!?

In-ear wireless buds are a novelty that has still yet to be developed truly. Your options are basically pesky low-battery life clunky two buds wired together, with some kind of battery and electronics holder hanging down the back of your neck, or they’re so big and clunky that they can’t stay put in your ear…

And I assume you know nothing about latency when it comes to wireless audio? You think pro’s are gonna be using bluetooth to do their video edition or audio tracking? Or even video watching for that matter…

Do think all the manufacturers of products that have a 3.5mm headphone out are gonna magically change their product lines to be all usb-c as their headphone out connection?

I thought this was supposed to be the MacBook PRO forum, not the iPod Touch forum, seriously man next time THINK before you speak such non-sense please.

Tradition on its own is not a reason to keep something around to annoyance of others. Ever thought that it might be time for you to explore better, easier, more performant and higher quality ways of doing things?

Just a thought on the display.

I'm sure there will be 4K screen but do we think Apple will opt for a smaller form factor with the smaller bezels or more real estate, ie: a 16.4 inch screen?

Of course I'm presuming the bezels will shrink as that seem's to be the trend...

How does resolution scaling work on OS X? Is everything optimiced for upscaling? Or third party software like photoshop isn't and you have to choice between blurred icons and text due to the "zoom" or extra small and tiny icons-text at native resolution? When someone talks about 4k resolution in 13 or 15 inch laptops I allways imagine them staring at the monitor like this.

Yup, it's optimised...you just choose a size you're happy working with and it's a bit sharper...Photoshop is great because you get to view larger images at 100%..4K video in Prem/After Effects/Finsl Cut X also...it's a benefit if you're working at those resolutions.

Thanks! it's good to know. I currently work on W10 with 104 PPI and some software it's on the size limit for me, 300PPI will be three times more small... can't wait to try OS X on the new rMBP.

I've only read about the Windows issue's with scaling...I'm sure they'll sort it soon..though I thought Windows10 was pretty much there?

W10 scaling is perfect, desktop, folders, text, apps.. everything. The problem is with software that isn't from Microsoft, you have to run them in native resolution or it gets blurry. See what happens with Apple logo on iTunes scaled vs disabled.

That doesn't sound "perfect" to me. I actually use an Asus laptop with a 17'' 1080 screen and it's really annoying. I'm not a Mac user, in fact I've never owned one, so it's not like I'm biased or anything.

This new MacBook Pro just might... might... be my first OSX device.

They better redesign the Macbook to get the ultra thin bezel like on the new Dell XPS. I need a new laptop BADLY and am getting impatient but don't want to take a hit on resell. Thinking of actually getting a Dell XPS i7 refurb from the Dell Outlet.

For the 13" MBP - Why not do a Dell XPS? Take 5mm off each side and it'd get to Dell XPS 13 width

Dell XPS 13
304mm wide

MacBook Air 13
325mm wide

MBP 13"
314mm wide

MBP 15" (15.4" diagonal) is currently 359mm wide, the XPS 15 (15.5" diagonal) with InifityEdge is 357mm wide. So does Apple make it less wide, put more screen in?

MBP 15" is 2,880 x 1,80, 220 ppi Screen ratio 1.6:1
Dell 15.6" is 3,200 x 1,880, 238ppi Screen ratio 1.7:1

Just looking between the two - if Apple brings in an InfinityEdge equivalent, it'll make older MBPs look pretty dated.

EDIT - Has Dell had had a few months of exclusivity on the Sharp IGZO display it uses for the XPS?

Well I said W10 scaling is perfect, iTunes is not W10. Ms can do anything if other companies don't allow their software to scale properly in windows. That's why I asked if the same happend in OS X.

Ohhh, do you really think that Apple, the company that has killed TONS of standards, really cares about what manufacturers have to go though?

Don't forget the elimination of the keyboard and stylus (pay no attention to that iPad Pro behind the curtain), hehe.

I just hope that if Apple does away with headphone jack they have a good solution to the bluetooth ear bud issue (the fact that most suck right now). If the rumors of true wireless charging are accurate, maybe Apple will come up with a way to charge your ear buds wirelessly as part of the same solution. How cool would it be to get home and just toss your phone and ear buds anywhere and have them charge?

OFF TOPIC - but here's something cool to check out if you're excited about wireless charging:

I think that the Pro will become either slimmer(similar to the MBA) or they will do it for the processor after skylake, the question is will apple make the PCI SSD,non-upgradable for the new macbook pros? Would be nice if you could upgrade it yourself.

While Dell has gone the near zero bezel route, my guess is that Apple will stick with it's current design language. That being a smaller bezel, but distinctly present as evidenced by the recent Retina MB's.

I'm still hoping Apple is able to squeeze a bit more screen real estate and offer 14" and 16" displays. Apple may not be as concerned that's it's wider or larger than Dell's XPS line. Especially if they can offer better battery life.

Has anyone considered the possibility of Apple keeping the MagSafe port, but changing the cable? What if the MagSafe charging cord is changed from a permanent connection on the power brick to a USB C port and the cable is magsafe to USB C cable. This would allow for the laptop to be charged via USB C or MagSafe, depending on what is available. It would also allow for the power brick to be used for multiple devices.

I hope you're wrong.

The Infinte edge is attractive IMO and if it gives more real estate, practical also..

In my opinion Apple will include some type of magsafe option. Wether it's a solution as you described, maybe the same MagSafe 2 port or maybe a new redesigned MagSafe 3 port.
It's a feature that people love and Apple exclusive.
I wouldn't see why they would get rid of it without hard consideration. Sure it would take up a little more space but with that given small amount of space, I doubt they could cram in some sort of feature that would greatly benefit a component in the laptop, in the space of where the magsafe port/connector would have been.

Dell had an exclusive on Sharp's Infinity displays through August 2015, so it wasn't design language that kept them from implementing it on the rMB.

"Dell tells us that the technology behind that thin bezel is exclusive to the XPS 13 through August of this year, meaning there will be no other Ultrabooks on the market to match this specification. Apple is expected also to shift to Sharp displays, but only the XPS 13 will feature this thin-bezel design through late 2015."
