Resolution is not your problem. Usable space und bezels are.
The DPI war is useless.

With Apple releasing a 4 and 5K iMac I think it would be nice to also have higher display in a MacBook, it's not essential it would just be nice. Maybe they will release a redesigned MacBook Pro with less bezel, we will probably find out at WWDC.

A small bump in resolution and DPI would do wonders for the usable space. HP's latest 13in chromebook has more real estate than the 15 MBP, although I'm guessing the panel isn't as nice.

2880x1800 in the 13in and 3360x2100 in the 15in would go a long way toward making making the machines much more usable at their default resolutions.

I'm still hanging on to my '13 MBA and hoping that the redesign will be enough of an improvement to upgrade.

CPU wise the 13" Retina is around 1.5 times faster than the 12" iPad Pro in Geekbench (not representative throughout though), the 15" is around 3 times faster than the 12" iPad Pro. So yeah until they get that up to speed and give the iPad OS X like control over files and handling external drives, external screens and a mouse/keyboard you need a notebook for various tasks.
Yeah this, no matter how good tablets are now they are no where near replacing a laptop. Even if you buy the extra dongles and wifi keyboards etc, still not being able to "workflow" on a laptop.

All this hype, I hope it's revolutionary. I'm thinking better screen, the laptop in a silver/black/gold option. It would be nice to have touchid sensor and at lease 2 terabytes for sad. The cooling should be fanless with water now.

Considering there's still many things that the iPad can't do, I doubt Apple will end the MBP anytime soon
if the discontinue the MBP they will loose me as a client. Which is nothing, but i feel there are a lot of people that want one.

I feel for the first time since 1986 that Apple is not "Apple"

If its not for this refresh then its for one of the folowing refreshes but i know for a fact that Apple is finaly going to put a decent dedicated gpu in the rMBP, thanks to the upcomming VR revolution... :)

Apple will never change their design philosophy only to make their products more compatible with certain types of $600-$1000 accessories that aren't even made by Apple.

There may well be a point where Apple will decide that it's time to get into the VR/AR segment, and you can be sure that Apple will want to make their own VR tech, and you can be reasonably confident that it will be on the iOS end of things, not OS X. They probably will use Apple's own custom chips and will be their own platform. They won't tether it to the MacBook Pro lineup which is only used by like 2% of people.

I have a MBP 13" Early 2011, and can hardly wait to get my hands on the 2016 model. Whatever they decide to release, it will nevertheless be a significant upgrade for me, compared to what I'm using today - since the new MBPr will most definitely be thinner, lighter and have a Retina display, a ForceTouch trackpad and SSD (man, just listing all that makes my MBP 2011 feel ancient!).

I would love for it to also include:
- Skylake (of course)
- USB-C is a given
- A redesigned keyboard (like the Magic Keyboard 2015) with individual LED keys
- TrueTone display
- All metal hinge
- Color options

I actually like the current form factor of the MBPr. Hopefully they don't compromise too much when it comes to the ports, like with the MacBook. So I hope they keep MagSafe and SD. I also use HDMI a lot (though, with an adapter on the 2011 model).

Slimmer bezels for a slightly bigger display (14") and TouchID might be asking too much, but would also be welcome additions.

Are these requests realistic? Am I missing something?

I understand your pain i have a 15" 2011 Macbook Pro, compared to the new MacBook's our laptops are probably ancient. I'm thinking about upgrading when Apple announce new MacBooks (possibly at WWDC) or i may stick with my iPad Pro. The features you list do not seem unreasonable, however I'm not too sure if Apple will make the Macbook Pro as close to the Macbook as people think, the Macbook Pro is more of a professional machine so they may want to keep the glowing Apple logo and silver as they currently are.
We may find out at WWDC tho, the update must be bigger than a spec update, otherwise wouldn't Apple of just silently updated them at the same time as Macbook and the Macbook Air which granted just got 8GB Ram as standard but it's still an update?

My soon to be heading to college daughter loves her 13" MBP non retina optical drive beast. Not interested in an upgrade because of the optical being built in on the one she has. She cares not about weight, size, retina display, processor, etc. She also said if this one meets a catastrophic ending, she would like the same machine. Which is good as I use most of the family computer budget anyway.
What does she use the optical drive for?

I totally agree. There should be a clear difference between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro. The MBPr doesen't need to be that thin, if it compromises power, ports and performance. And I wouldn't mind keeping the glowing Apple logo either.

Last year there was only a silent update with the new trackpad and spec bump, so yeah, it definitely deserves a spot at the keynote next month. Fingers crossed!

Apple needs to come out with updated systems cause Skylake has been out for awhile now. They are always the last to adopt new tech. I'd like to see something more revolutionary then colors, and thin design.

And what will you see on 2880x1800 on 13'' without scaling it ?o_O I had to give back dell 2515h with 25'' 2560x1440 because fonts were too small and scaling on osx is **** with external monitors(couldn't scale everything I want).

He said default resolution, which is equivalent of 1440x900 in this case.

Personally i would like to see even higher resolution, 3840x2400 (1920x1200) for the 15" and 3360x2100 (1680x1050) for the 13"
Yeah but things that you will get more usable space is just ********. The ppi is very good in increasing it will marginally improve quality. You can get more usable space by decreasing icon size and fonts size.

What are your thoughts on the glowing logo. Will it remain?
It looks harmonious with silver...not sure if itll look good on gold...if they decide to offer that.

I have a 2515h with 2560x1440 at work and its great. I dont think you should scale it at all, the resolution is fine to my eyes, and practically the same as the 27" iMac.
For the MacbookPro though I would prefer Apple keep with the current resolution on the 15" as to go 4k would be too much even for my eyes. I have noticed its harder to buy a 4k laptop now, 6months ago they were all the rage.

Glowing logo is going away. It's not a matter of looks. New screen will be too thin to allow it.
No thinness of the screen is not the overruling factor here. Its WiFi/Bluetooth transmittance. This was done by the plastic hinge on MBA & MBP. now that the hinge is aluminium. the steel logo acts as the window of transmittance.
