i5 and i7 can mean 15W dual-core (some configurable to 7.5W TDP), 28/35W dual-core and 47W quad-core. In Acer's case, it could be a 15W dual-core processor configured for 7.5W so that it can be fanless.

The need of a fan is dictated by the law of physics, I... suppose?

Oh yeah i mentioned that in the earlier post...that its a dual core 15W. If the new MBP retains the 28W processor...a heatpipe system might be questionable. However 15 W is possible.

If its not for this refresh then its for one of the folowing refreshes but i know for a fact that Apple is finaly going to put a decent dedicated gpu in the rMBP, thanks to the upcomming VR revolution... :)

Me too. I have a feeling it will be my last "laptop". In 3/4 years, I can see myself using an iPad pro type device.

I'm trying to move my workflow to an iPad, but restricted software and limited connectivity is keeping me from completing the transition. Laptops with their keyboards and trackpads are starting to feel like ancient relics. Nevertheless I may buy the one last ride with my favourite type of computers.

Once the iPad is running Mac OS and allows sub connections and file system like a Mac that could be a good idea. Apple will not do this as people will spend money on one device and not both.

There's an architecture chasm that needs to be filled. It may be that we will have an option between a ARM/iOS pad or an Intel/OSX pad. The former for consuming content, the latter for creating content.

Can't see the logic in replacing something just because it's old.
Is there a better alternative? Okay, give it to me.
But I can't see how something like USB-C is better for charging.

Higher wattage rating in comparison too usb2/3... I believe 5/15 vs 35 watt?

They wouldn't do that would they?
I'm holding off to see what apple come up with...a dual core 15 would be nuts given the 13 is dual core, right!?!?

I also don't see Apple droping the quadcore C*PUs.
But I'd love Apple at least inserting some 15W CPU as a possible configuration.

Would be nice if they decided to forego making the MBP thinner and gave it a worthwhile GPU, Processor, etc... Actually make a powerful laptop for once. ;)

I hope for that as well but Ive and his obsession with thinness. It's going be one of those "Oh yes but wait a minute... they took away $%^ for making it thin" moments. :(

Pretty much, sadly. But, still silly wanting thinner as a consumer when it means getting rid of more and more. The day Apple finally makes a laptop/desktop the consumer can upgrade RAM, GPU, HD without voiding warranties and the likes, will be a happy day with you know, up to date parts and an OS that supports it's own hardware. =P

Until then, there's always that other company.

i feel so ancient.
I want a new 15 inches MBP

You shouldn't worry at all.

Major hardware redesigns for MacBooks are very rare. Apple do it the least possible in other to produce the same components in huge quantity in order to maximize profitability without cutting corners on quality.

The current cMBP design has been introduced in 2008 and are still on sale in 2013, and could possibly still be sold in 2014, giving it a lifetime of 5-6 years.

The current MBA design has been introduced in 2010 and I'd still give it at least a year or two before it gets redesigned.

The 13" rMBP has been introduced less than a year ago, so I'd only expect a redesign in something like 5 years (2018). It could hardly be more early in its design cycle. It has been released just long enough to (hopefully) leave time for Apple to rule out software inefficiencies associated with laggy scrolling in Safari. I'm pretty confident OS X 10.9's Safari will have whatever lag fix WebKit nightly has had for a while. Now's a perfect time to buy.

So why is it taking so long for Apple to come out with the new 15" Mac Book Pro, after coming out with a 12" model. Will they have the ports the older model had.

I dont want to hurt your "feelings" but Id like a reaction with rational arguments better :)

Their trends are towards thinness and battery life, not GPU capability. They've been removing dedicated GPUs as integrated cards have gotten "good enough" in their eyes. VR, at least in its current state, won't be enough to change that. Apple has never cared about gaming, and VR is not going to suddenly change their mind. Maybe in five years when the tech matures and starts to have applications outside of gaming.

I keep hoping some photos or specs get leaked online. You would think that they would be producing the new MacBooks Pros at this point in time no?
