If you're seriously going to miss the glowing logo, you may be using your computers wrong...

Apple users are extremely precise about aesthetics as well.
I have a friend who won't buy the current MacBook pros/Airs cause of the keyboard font. He would prefer San Francisco on the rMBP keyboard.

when you buy a computer...you judge it on all aspects. For some aesthetics may be more significant than others.

No need to rule people out like that. :D

Right, but you can't just keep the design for ever because people like it. If that's how **** worked we'd all be living in caves.

Apple needs to come out with updated systems cause Skylake has been out for awhile now. They are always the last to adopt new tech. I'd like to see something more revolutionary then colors, and thin design.

The Skylake chipsets and dGPUs appropriate for new MacBook Pros are NOT out yet. There are many different Skylake chipsets, the ones that have been "out for a while" are not what you'd find in a MBP.

A glowing logo isnt a stepback in technology though...its implementation is a step forward. Apples just being lazy and instead of coming w/ a solution for transmittance...they just dropped the glass logo.

Your analogy doesnt fit here. It was free advértising for Apple.

All fine by me tbh.

TBH, I've heard of sales rep telling how some customers chose MBA over the new MB, not cause of the specs, but cause the new MB has no glowing logo

What? I don't know about the dGPUs but the Skylake chips have been released. Any major manufacturer can get their hands on them.

Just keep in mind that Apple does not take their product design or spec updates lightly. They are very thorough in ensuring that whatever new hardware is going into their products works right and works reliably. I for one am thankful for this: I've still got my first iPod, and although I've modified it with a flash card, it still works great (better than new actually). The alternative is products that are rushed out the door to be "first", but reliability suffers.

Right, but the first products featuring the 6770HQ are just about to come out (Skull Canyon NUC for example in the next few days). So, what exactly is Apple "last to do" here?

I really think that Apple may use a 10-bit color monitor for their next MBP with adaptive sync (FreeSync) technology. That way they can really take advantage of the Polaris GPUs that they're using. Including HVEC (.265) hardware decoding/encoding.

What Polaris gpu's? You're assuming A) Apple will put a new gpu inside when they just added AMD 370X inside and B) they would be using AMD again....

I don't know if you're being snarky, but if you're not.

Most sites seem to report that Apple is going to continue using AMD as their Mac GPU manufacturer. https://www.macrumors.com/2016/04/19/amd-polaris-2016-macs/ Plus AMD is targeting Polaris at the mainstream and thin laptops instead of the high-end. Which makes it fit much better into Apple's demographic.

Also since Apple added 10-bit external monitor support last year. I think the pieces are aligning.

I can only hope that Apple learned that their higher-end laptop market doesn't appreciate having only integrated GPUs.

very true, they can use amd for the bigger laptop, bigger imac and mac pro

Its the reason i have not bought the nMB . Its also one of the reasons i got my first Macbook in 2011, i love glowing lights and the Macbook Air had a glowing Apple and back lit keyboard. Looked so much cooler than the junky Acer and HP laptops i'd had in the past.

It also makes it amusing when you see Microsoft events and the attached images is how it looks when you take a photo of the press at the event.

Agreed. Aesthetics are not the most significant factor for me, but I love the solid build and the design of my MacBook. Until I owned one I didn't realize the backlit logo used the light from the display (very smart design from Apple). No one's using their computer wrong just because they happen to like this feature and want to see it in future models.

I don't need the glowing logo to be honest, I'd just like speed, and more SSD space, Im sure whatever they have will be awesome next month.

Oh ok, you make it sound like they're not released period in your original post. Yeah, they just haven't been featured in any products yet (well, the NUC).

So, what exactly is Apple "last to do" here?

Uhh, what? You seem to be carrying on an argument that you've had with someone else. I agree with you, they're not the last to adopt these processors (only in name).

I've said before, these Skylake chips that the MBP will use are new. I've had to explain this many times to people who don't understand that Intel releases variants of their processors throughout the year. Apple will be one of the first to feature them in their products.

Can't see the glowing logo going on the Pros as I'm guessing it as down to space as much as anything on the MacBook.

I'm holding off on replacing an 11" MBA to see if the Pros get even thinner. Unless you need something ultra-portable (which I don't anymore) there's now the 12" MacBook, 13" Air and 13" Pro as viable options.

Much as I love my MBA, I think I might go bigger this time round, especially if the Pro gets thinner, but I do think Apple are getting to the point where there's not a lot of distinction between the model choices for the average user.

Exactly what I think. A 13" MBP with the weight of a MBA (1.3 Kg) would be extremely more attractive than a 0.95 Kg rMB, especially at that price. I am afraid that they'll remove the 128 Gb model, leaving only the 256 Gb at the same price as now, so more expensive than the rMB. Only in this way they will differentiate models. The problem is that the MBA will remain on the market and super discounted (compared to the other three), and people will keep going on buy the MBA.
