Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
I hope it was meant to be "fiscal Q4".

I think it will, I read on here someone said next year is the MacBook Pros 11th year, so if it's celebrating its 10th anniversary this year then what better place to launch a totally new model with brand new design then st WWDC, and then put it on sale at the end of June beginning of July as that will be the fourth quarter.

If they don't ship new MBPs before the end of July I will honestly be in complete and utter disbelief. The wait for a revelant model has been just vast, it's beyond a joke at this point, how Apple can have let themselves fail to even compete in the notebook market for so long is beyond me, you would have thought their keeping on top of this was one of their top priorities at least Mac-wise.

There is no reason for any further delays, there is no reason for a launch after the summer. Get these things out, you've had more than enough time to work on every single aspect of them, redesign included, and then some. Do your jobs and GET EM OUT.

Their chips haven't been available until recently and I'm sure they don't want to release until quality is up to standard. I'd much rather them release when done than release earlier and have QC problems.

A MBP is a 4+ year investment for most people. The current gen ones are still great computers if you need one RIGHT NOW, and waiting an extra month won't make that big of a difference for everyone else if it means getting a better product.

Exactly. My current MBP is 6 years old now and I'm looking to upgrade to a new one that will hopefully last another 5-6 years. I really want to upgrade now but if I have to wait another 1-3 months or more then so be it.

I'm in the same situation, i have a 2011 Macbook Pro and I'm waiting to upgrade this year, i'd rather wait and have a Macbook Pro that has been worked out by Apple and has gone through the quality controls rather than just rushed to make the deadline. It's still possible that Apple could announce at WWDC anyway.

I disagree with not waiting to WWDC. June 13 is only a couple of weeks away and worth the wait to make an informed decision. I need to upgrade and if nothing is announced I will go ahead and get a refurbed/used 2014 unit. Then I will make a new decision when the new units appear.

The truth is that the macbook pro, while outspecc'd and out paper'd, is still a more usable computer than anything else out there. Why? Because there's not one single computer that has as good of a touchpad and as nice of a screen and battery life and support/convenience of an apple retail store, money back guarantee, etc. It also is the only computer that has mac os x, although the new linux being baked into windows 10 is very interesting.

Apple knows they've got it and they take their time.

Hit the nail right on the head. Macs are by far more usable and a better experience in my opinion. It's just the price that's holding them back.

Exactly. I've just read that in the US Chromebooks are now the most sold notebooks. And those don't even come with a decent desktop-OS. I could only guess what the reasons are. For Apple, does this mean that the MBA are still the most sold units?

I disagree that there is something special about OSX. I daily switch back and forth between Windows 10, OSX, and Linux machines. They all have their strong points and weak points. But none of the them provides substantial difference. It is more like deciding between chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream.

But we all know that chocolate is much better. :)

The only reason Apple didn't update earlier, was due to Intel's supply issues. It has/had nothing to do with quality.

With regards to the redesign, there's no excuse for it not coming at WWDC. They've had over two years to get it ready. It's not like they've only got 10 engineers working on their entire product line; they have hundreds, if not thousands of engineers working on EACH product line. For a company this large and with the resources they have, if they aren't ready by WWDC, it's just utter incompetence.

There's no technical need for a redesign as well, just update the damn laptops!

I predict at the very least, we'll see the current gen Pro's spec bumped to Skylake (with possibly later shipping dates).

Well aside from the fact that it's not as easy and dropping a silicone into the laptop and calling it a day, you need to build the logic board, optimize, etc. but i think the main thing is that apple doesn't revolve it's laptop schedule around intel release cycles, although it tries. There are a bunch of other htings that apple wants to upgrade as well.

There's been advancements in technology over the last 4 years that can make the laptops thinner and lighter. That's obviously not a technical need, but it's a really nice thing for consumers and an important thing when all their competitors are putting out thinner and lighter devices.

These are laptops, as in portable computers. I think it's great to make them more convenient to carry around. It's safe to assume that whatever happens, they will maintain the same all day battery life, have awesome screens and trackpads, and get the small power bump that comes with Skylake no matter what crazy changes they do to the design.

"all day" battery life is a hoax. Editing photos in Lightroom while on battery makes the current MBP 13 last only 2 hours... There's still a lot of improvement needed to get decent battery life for people that actually work with laptops.

People who think "actual laptop work" is editing photos or video is worst people.

I guess you already saw these leaked photos...

https://www.macrumors.com/2016/05/31/macbook-pro-leaked-photos-oled-touch-panel/

What comes into my mind is the following:
- I'm glad I decided for the 2015 rMBP, but mainly for design aspects
- it's likely that the glowing Apple logo is gone
- SD card slot gone - I use CF cards, but still surprising as they are slightly thinner than usb 3.1
- no MagSafe - this is sad, one of the best inventions of Apple
- TouchID Bar - although the concept is interesting, it looks horrible, what nobody noticed or seems to have considered is that the TouchID Bar has Force Touch / 3D Touch built in and, thus, emulating the click of a physical key. Maybe in a few years the physical keyboard as we know it today is completely gone.

Somehow I think the screen will be bigger (the hinge looks wider?), and looking at the depth of the keyboard i think the keys will be quite shallow compared to my 2011 15". I'm going to miss the SD card slot, although UHS-II is faster than my USB 2.0 card reader the 2011 has I should upgrade to a Thunderbolt/USB3.1 card reader anyway ;). As for the MagSafe: I feel the same way, although now you should (theoretically) connect it to either side of the rMBP...? This should make things a bit easier at the cost of the safe feeling Mag-Safe brought us. I hope/think there might some alternatives coming like the current Breaksafe by Griffin, which is a bit cumbersome I have to agree.

You are forbidden from speaking about thinner and lighter laptops on this forum.

Apple will always, even if not a single soul requests it, attempt to release hardware which is thinner and lighter with every new model that is designed for sale. So, you need not (ever) request it or speak hopefully or wishfully about that aspect.

Progress will only be made when consumers request that laptops NOT be made thinner, and STOP discussing thinness as a matter of importance, over battery life.

Whatever current new apple device you own, it could do with an extra 2-3mm in thickness and double the battery life. That is what we want.

Why? Because (as has been pointed out) any real work will suck the "all day battery" dry in a matter of hours.

So, I for one would like shift the importance away from the thinness, for it is not an advantage when compared to battery life. The next mm or two shaved off a laptop helps them sell laptops, but doesn't help us use them any better.
