The time has finally come! i have been waiting patiently for the last year and a half! I am still running a Late 2008 MBP with a blazing fast 2.53GHZ Core 2 Duo! It has trouble playing 1080p videos on Netflix and Youtube.

The best feature of my laptop is that the screen is broken and it is being held together by a vice grip. The battery dies at 94%, so i need to be tethered. Come thursday, i will be free from the shackles of this laptop. I cannot wait until thursday! I dont think ive ever been this excited for an Apple event

Here are some pictures of what im working with

I bought a MBP during the summer.

I have a very bad feeling about this announcement on Friday. I don't think it'll be a Kaby Lake. Instead of a cutting edge product release, they'll fudge the opportunity and release a bog standard machine that should be a minor release upgrade instead of a major release, leave-competition-for-dead overhaul.

Either way, I'll be buying one. I'm a masochist. Though if they try to force a multimedia keyboard on me, I will start investigating other options.

That thing's an antique! I like how the metal body has stood up to abuse and time. Blend it up once you get your new gear.

2008-2016 is one hell of a time for a heavily used notebook. I'm currently running on a Late 2011 15" (2.2 i7, 16GB ram, ATI 6750m) which when compared to yours is in great shape. The battery is around half-way to hell, the temperatures fro the cpu/gpu compliment that previous statement as the CPU reaches 95 degrees Celcius allmost instant when using something more taxing than moving your cursor haha.

Eitherway: I hope your needs will be met next thursday :).

My dream machine is:

- all USB-C with no "Mag" charging required
- a USC-C safe charging cable?
- no headphone jack
- no SD "slots"
- thinner? (only slightly)
- no bezel screen
- 12 hour+ battery life
- 3D NAND SSD and non-volatile RAM (probably not for a few more years though...)
- invisible track pad, invisible web cam, invisible fingerprint reader, etc.

And invisible Mac too.

I thought "informed" logic from those in the know was that the MBA is going nowhere because of the popularity and price-point, but it does make sense to give it a spec bump and keep it non-retina.

If they ditch the 11" MBA (which makes sense with the 12" MB) the 13" MBA still has a place assuming its noticeably cheaper and less-powerful than the 13" MBP. We can only assume the new Pros are going to be that bit lighter and smaller form factor that the last ones?

A 13" MBP will be a day one purchase for me and my trusty 11" MBA will be up for sale.

yeah sounds great but they should leave the usb-c port out of it too. really a pro machine then!!

Do you ever wonder if people like you, are the reason Apple feel they can get away with releasing mediocre products?

Thinking about my first unibody mac. It was the 13" macbook. It was also my first laptop from Apple. What a great start. I still have it. I think ti may have been the only unibody with a quick release panel underneath as my later 13" MacBook pro unibody had none. I wonder what was the thinking behind the original 13 unibody design with this quick release panel and then for what reason what or who decided to remove it. In a way it was more pro feature that the pro models did without but there are probably a number of competing reasons as to why the modified this feature by removing it completely. I would wager a large part was warranty voiding being all to easy... "Oh I wonder what this little latch does..."

The reason I mention this is because we may be at an exciting redesign moment in the macbook story. Where what has been learned in the redesigned Macbook will inform the pro line.

Why does your dream machine involve removing common ports? Do you just hate looking at a headphone jack or something so much that your dream machine wouldn't have one?

I still use my unibody as secondary computer along with my hackintosh. It serves the purpose with an ssd. But I feel its time is coming to an end now. Without ssd that i installed myself it would be a useless device.

Apple may ditch the spinning HD. They've done stuff like that before. Only Solid State lines. Eventually no more RPM's so maybe they might look to start with the new rMBP lines. This might be a Floppy drive moment...

Except I can't imagine anyone complaining about it! "My Mac is too fast now, I can't even make breakfast before the system loads. OUTRAGE!!!"

Man, I hope so. The standard across the Apple lineup, for all products, should be SSD and Retina screens on everything.

It makes sense they will because they will have even greater control of the internals + the $ charging aspect + all the devices are. So eventually no moving parts internally. Maybe the hinge will be the only moving part and you hand!

If they are going to roll it out my guess is it would be Pro lines first to grab early adopter who don't mind paying a premium for kit once it's worth it / road rugged.

SD card usage is pretty uncommon. Same for 3.5mm.

I think I've used my 3.5mm jack once in the last few months. Why is this non standard, poorly designed crap still here after 40+ years?

USB-C and wireless does it better. Time to let go of the past and embrace the future.

Interesting, I plan to replace the 5400 RPM hard drives in my 2012 Mac Mini and 2009 MacBook with solid state drives (960 GB and 256 GB, respectively). But regarding the 2009 MacBook, I plan to replace it probably with a "regular" 2012 13 MacBook Pro, so I can still have an optical disc drive and user-servicable parts, and be able to run macOS Sierra on a Mac notebook.

So based on those photos that have been accidentally leaked i guess there will no colour choices like the MacBook (I wonder if the Apple logo still illuminates!). As for the design I would not call that design overhaul besides the magic toolbar. I sold my 13" MacBook about 2 months ago, hopefully there is more hidden inside Apple's bag of tricks this week to make up for the wait.

I just hope there will be a separate MagSafe power connector. Sure, I don't mind if having USB-C as long as it's got a separate power connector. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if this even came with two USB-C ports. Again, it's said USB-C is twice as fast as USB 3, which may explain why they're doing that, just like the upcoming MacBook Pro using Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Pretty sure the new MacBook Pro will charge through USB-C if they're going to introduce the port to this model. It wouldn't make sense not to do so when the Retina MacBook already does it.
