Sold my 15" rMBP tonight.

Down to a 12" MB and a mac mini server, if not for iOS the orchard would be pretty sparse.

I'd like to buy a Mac, but the lineup is so week.

You're off your rocker. The new MBP regardless of design will be faster on all accounts (processor, memory, hdd, wireless bands), it will have a brighter, higher color gamut screen with most likely true tone features, it's going to be more secure with a fingerprint scanner for faster unlocking and online payments and purchases, will introduce OLED top menu bar for customized shortcuts (aka more effiecient productivity; read: faster), faster USB-C data transfers, higher resolution external monitor options etc. etc. etc. all while being thinner/lighter for people that decided they needed a PORTABLE computer rather than a desktop.

<SIGHS> If only, if only...

so bummed if the leaked pictures are what they appear to be.
I have a ton of stuff that uses plain old USB2/3, and more vexingly TB1/2.
If the new machine has only USB C that is just another in the long string of recent Apple headscratchers.
I suppose I can use adapters, but it's clown car ridiculous that I will be adapting every single device I own to make them work with the new MBP.
The Thunder Raid is brand new, so that is not getting replaced. The UAD2 DSP is also brand new.
Oh yeah, and all those TB to whatever adapters are obsolete now.
I can't wait to hear the justifications.
"But it's so thin!"
yeah, I care more about using my computer to get stuff done than how skinny it is.
I thought that was what the Air and rMB were for, thin and light low powered computers. The Mac Pro are supposed to be more robust, and better able to plug in to stuff. Also see no HDMI. Lame.
I suppose there may be some stupid fkludge of TB3 over usb C. Which begs the question what does that accomplish that having both TB3 and USB C ports does not?

With Apple obsession with making every thing very thin over ports and powerful computer I may get Dell, Asus , Sony Vaio or HP laptop if this Macbook pro is like Macbook.

The least Apple could do is release a roadmap.

Seriously annoyed with the way their core developer community has been simply left in limbo for well over a year now.

They don't care. All they care is that happy-go-lucky consumers and the new middle classes of China/Russia/India/South America keep buying iPhones, iWatches and paying for apps.
[doublepost=1476572495][/doublepost]"touch bar" sounds like a piece of sh*t. Reminds me of "multimedia keyboards" that Dell used to force on their customers.

I wish Apple would "spin-out" their Mac division. Macs are not getting the attention they deserve.

Based on your argument, I can see why you'd think this. Your argument is one that I would expect from an audiophile, but not a full time musician. The lack of an option to mix on headphones, is unacceptable to many musician, ESPECIALLY these days.

When you're in a profession studio and see a producer come in for a session and place his Macbook on a mixing board, for a quick session and then leave, you'll get it. Most musicians work on the go, when working in the studio isn't an option, for whatever reason. Nobody wants to carry around interfaces.

I'm not trying to argue a point due to my desire for a headphone jack. It's simply how it is. As a full time musician, it's my experience that colleagues and other fellow musician acquaintances are increasingly producing on the go. That's why I know you can take a headphone jack out of any other Mac product, except the MBP line.
I have to agree. I do a lot of on the go stuff. I might be stuck in an airport or riding a commuter train and decide to put together a quick sketch of a composition.
Likewise a lot of people working in news/video/post/film may put together rough edits or just comb over raw footage while on a flight or in a hotel room.
Lots of pros carry their laptops with them all the time, without any kind of audio interface. All of that stuff is packed with the gear, or back at the studio.
When we are doing this we are often wearing ATM50s or MDR7506's. Big old closed back headphones with 1/8th" plugs.
Not bloody little wireless ear buds.
I really hope the next MBP does have TB3 on a mini DP connector, a regular headphone jack and a decent amount of power to able to do video production work.
I some how doubt I will get an actual professional machine. Instead it will be the latest victim of Apple-anorexia.
Part of me is okay with that. Like many other people who have thrown in the towel, I'll switch over to Windows and Linux. Lots of people are doing professional audio and video production on Windows. It's ugly, and you have to really mind your security, but you get all the jacks you need.

I have become interested in these new kabylake convertibles by HP and Lenovo. Now I fear Apple will never do that. Those things would be quite interesting to me as a teacher.

Good luck with a Vaio!

There's at least two topics in that point...
The x360/yoga bit around convertibles.. covered in part in this thread.. in teresting read : https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...laints-regarding-storage-limitations.1976613/

Kabylake, power consumption, dedicated GPUs and whether they are really worth the wait are all pinned at the top of the MacBook Pro forum

All great threads to read!!!!

This has got to be the quietest 'coming event' I can recall.

Not anything- Nada.

Maybe there isn't going to be one... at least not this month.

I just looked at MacRumors' Buyer's Guide: All "don't buy" except for the MacBook, which is neutral, and even it was last updated half a year ago. I don't know if Apple is holding out for Kaby Lake across the laptop line or what, but it's disappointing.

I wonder how many people who have thrown their toys out of the pram and bought a windows laptop in anger are actually happier than they would be if they just got a current macbook pro. People talk as if the current one is a rubbish machine that is stuck in the dark ages. Processors really haven't taken a massive leap forwards in the past few years.

I agree that apple is charging far too much for old hardware in an old chassis but if you take the machine on face value it is still an absolute beast and the best combination of hardware/software available.

I found the 2015 for a great price and I don't exactly feel like I am using something old and antiquated, but selling it at full price 18 months after it was introduced is rather shameless. Also while processors haven't become 4x as fast, I really wouldn't mind having a better GPU.

Anyone has a guess what the dimensions in cm will be with the new Macbook Pro 13 / 14 inch? I have got a nice little backpack and I hope it will fit. My 11 inch MBA fits (19.2cm) and there is a just couple cm spare.

At this point my money would be on you replacing your backpack before there's a new MBP

Seems like a perfectly reasonable list of things to expect? Perhaps the only one that we won't see would be the fingerprint sensor since Apple might push Apple Watch integration in favor of implementing the secure enclave into the Mac.

Sometimes I wish Apple would be split in two divisions: Creative and Technical (Professional).

Actually, I think that the leaked picture was for the new 13" MBA. First, it's way too thin to keep the same design for a 15" model. Second, even a 13" rMBP required much more cooling power and larger battery than MBA so such thickness would be bottlenecking the heatsink performance.

I'm pretty sure that rMBP will have both Thunderbolt 3 and USB-A ports. Otherwise it'd instantly ruin the rMBP competitiveness for the majority of potential customers. It won't be just an annoyance but rather a deal-breaker... And then the only thing I could do is to thank Apple for pushing High-DPI IPS screens into the laptop market in 2012 instead of TN crap.... and buy a nice Win10 laptop, I'm sure I'll get used to it fast
