this fiscal and not release
I'd be careful with this :D
Japanese fiscal year just started April 1st. Runs until the end of March 2025.
So yeah, they can announce it in March 2025 and release it before holidays in 2025

Also, the switch sales are doing great. otherwise they'd have killed it already (as they did with Wii U which sold poorly).

It topped 141 million units worldwide in March, up from 131 in September last year. Super Mario Wonder sold 12 million in 3 months and I think this was also a boost for new units (especially for people to upgrade to OLED).

Realized the other day that I might need to buy a Nintendo Switch. So it’s almost now or wait till whatever console they announce next. Since I been out of the loop is pricing decent now or wait till Thanksgiving/Black Friday for a bundle deal?

Switch has a tremendous collection of games and keep in mind that when Switch 2 will release, the first year will be a total war trying to get one (similar with xbox S|X and PS5). More people are having now a switch to upgrade from than any other console, plus the scalpers.
So unless we're lucky, it will be pretty hard to get one in the first year :(

Until Black Friday it's 4.5 months, I wouldn't wait and I'd rather enjoy the time playing instead save $50

Not sure, but it is likely there will be a sale on Amazon (and other sites) for 'Prime Days' in a couple of weeks. Those tend to be ~$25-50 off the OLED. (so $300-325 vs $350)

Save money, buy a used one and sell it in 12-18 months whenever you manage to get your hand on the new one which will likely be expensive given that Nintendo has partnered with Nvidia.

The Switch is nvidia hardware as well. Nintendo has been pretty good about launch price of their hardware. I’d assume $299-$349 would be the launch pricing of the next gen Switch.

For this generation of consoles and gpus, hardware is half the job.

If the switch 2 architecture makes heavy use of custom alogirhtms for machine learnings they will need continuous maintenance and updates then that will be factored in to the price.

Nvidia's time and resources are currently worth alot. It would be fun to know how much of the Switch 2 R&D, product and service level agreements were negotiated and locked at the start of kick-off. Because of inflation $399 wouldn't be shocking. We live in a time of $1,000 iPads.

There is alot to find out e.g whether it will have back compatability and whether the Switch OLED will be discontinued or remain in production as an entry level option.

Pokemon is great, however they've been lazy with Scarlet/ Violet and it's poorly optimized. It's a very fun game tho, after you get past fps nausea.

Still baffles me that we have TOTK/ BOTW running flawless and S/V barely hits 20fps :)) but it's a fun game.

Also they're developed by different studios

Pretty good deal here for a 1.5TB card - 115 quid

are there already leaks? What will the new Switch look like and what are the features? Is an upgrade worthwhile? Do you have an article with more info?

So far, 8" screen although it may be LCD, joycons will attach via some sort of electro magnet system. Much more powerful chip from Nvidia, as powerful as a PS4 or PS4 Pro, possibility it'll be nearly as powerful as a Series S when docked. No one knows what gimmick it will have.
Said to have 12 GB RAM I think, much larger internal storage and it'll be backwards compatible.
Nintendo themselves have officially stated it will be revealed in this fiscal year and that it will be an evolution of the Switch formula.

It may support 4K with Nvidias clever DLSS upscaling tech and ray tracing too but we'll see.

Keep your ears open. Chances of a reveal this month are looking very good BUT it is only rumours currently, however Nintendo did move up all its events to last month, it has nothing left for this month.....

No one has leaked any images of it, but we do know Nintendos assembly partner for the Switch is spending millions on new equipment, it was in their financial report. I have just been following You Tube videos, no articles really.
It's also been said devs have felt the device, apparently. Intentions it hidden in a box but they were allowed to put their hands in and feel the new console body.

I will say though we have been here before with the rumoured Switch Pro. But Nintendo as I said have officially announced the new console will be shown, it is only rumours stating it'll be this month.

With DLSS, FG and Nintendo's otherwordly optimisation, it could realistically match the Series S for visuals.

It 'could' but we will have to see. It will be built more for efficiency to make the battery last then out right power. Anyway fingers crossed it's shown this month. I wonder if in its presentation it'll be shown running COD?

Energy consumption can be managed automatically with different performance/energy modes for handheld(720p) vs docked(1440p dynamic).

It doesn’t need to but even a slight step below Series S could make titles like GTA, Fortnite and cod viable. That could be fab and negate need for millions to down a switch and another console.

COD is guaranteed though, MS made their deal for it to be on Nintendos console, GTA may be more down to Nintendos policies, but fingers crossed.
Fortnite will probably be on it not that I care.

I don't think it will match a Series S, we will have to see as the higher performance means it'll be hotter so they'll still have to cool it but in the constraints of a handheld.

Meh either way I'll most likely get one, I do enjoy the simplicity of a console, my Steam Deck is great but these handheld PC's aren't a console that's for sure. Plus it'll be nice to have another console based on ARM instead of X86. Of it does get near a Series S docked it'll be a stunning achievement. I hope it gets a huge third party support this time from day one.

There’s another rumor going along, supposedly from a reputable leaker, it’s going to be another special OLED Switch edition.

The Series S is a low benchmark because it doesn't use ai features at all.

Thanks to dlss and frame gen, the switch could match its the Series S visual performance but with a signifigantly lower energy consumption.

When I purchase my 4070rtx and 5800x3d gaming pc I was gobsmacked by how magical Nvidia's ai features are. In old fashion terms it's a 1440p but with FG and DLSS on I can play games at 4k at 70-80 which would at native resolution require a 4090 and a jump from 650watt to 1000watt gpu. That's a substantial saving is energy, thermal and component costs without a detriment to visuals. I play on a 4k lg c1 and dlss is so good that I can't tell the difference.

Likewise I have seen comparisons where 540p internally up scaled to 720p with dlss looks better than native 720p.

Ace combat 7 and Tears of the Kingdom should borderline not be possible on the switch and look fab. That's without any nvidia magic that pc gamers are enjoying.

Therefore I would think of the switch 2 beyond raw specs. I hope that during reveal, nintendo will show examples of best case graphical visuals.

I had a switch but then most of the games that I played on it was also on my iPad with better graphics. I was like nope this has to go lol

I play pretty much zero games on my iPad as I hate having to fish out a controller and pair it etc etc etc plus zero first party Nintendo games on the iPad so not even worth a comparison really - I am a gamer and apple has ALWAYS sucked for games for so so so many reasons - no wonder N destroyed this generation....

From my first gen iPhone to now they are no better.....I suppose they really dont care about gaming on Mac / iOS

I was pretty much astounded when i saw the graphics of Odyssey and LM3 - this little thing from old 2017 is a very capable machine.
