Family, local community tournaments with less fortunate kids.

I do have three kids, but they won't only be using them. We will hold events and let less fortunate kids get to play. When MK8 comes out we'll do some really fun stuff with the kids.

Alright, all is good. That's good that you do that.

ooooo

I **really** like the blue Shiekah. Cancelled Blue Link because the intense stitching texture was a dealbreaker,

Tempted to keep both, the material on the Zelda one feels great, and official Nintendo one (the 'sleeve' with internal stand flap on cartridge case flap) arrives wednesday woo

I really don't think my 7+ camera is doing justice for how cool this aqua blue is

also this one smells WAY less pungent out the gate than my black one did

UkQlMof.jpg

darker blue in real life (like considerably in a good way Imo)

coolest part (if I keep both)? mix-match the cartridge case for a 'neon joy con' effect :D

First 12 hours impressions: Generally impressed!

Great product. The packaging is attractive and unique. The OS is minimal and slick. I like a lot. Luckily. Even the cables (charging and HDMI) seem to have a nice bit of thickness to them.

I especially like unlocking the device with the right trigger button!

And boy am I glad the latest Zelda patch attempts to address the frame rate issues! This game really *looks* great!(and note there's no caveat like "for a Switch game")

Some criticisms:
-For some reason dust seems to stick to the analog sticks.
-The serial number sticker on the bottom looks out of place...cheap, and kinda detracts from the overall good looking hardware.

Cheers

Yeah the barcode on bottom makes it look more like a generic tablet

Should remove it :p just kidding haha

And agreed about os it's basic but snappy
And effective. I love the instant back into the game from standby. Incredible really for breath of the wild

When I got my Switch, the sales person at Wal-Mart said (basically), "I'm too lazy to go find and open up the box with the games in it, I'm just going to sell the Switch units now -- come back later if you want a game."

He did open up the box that had the Collector's Edition of BotW...nobody in front of me wanted it, and when it was my turn I thought, heck, a) I want to start playing Zelda *now*, and b) I'm not coming back here later, so I said "I'll take the Collector's Edition!"

Anyway, it came with this bag...it looks nice, not sure how useful it is, although now that I finally have my screen protector on (the Orzly *finally* came), maybe I'll wind up using it.

I like the way it looks but from video reviews I don't like how easily the switch sorta wiggles around in there. And I don't like the look of the texture rubbery and all. A potential nightmare for my dry hands

But it's cool it looks just like link's sheikah hanging off his belt. Nice touch!
It'd be a cool collectible regardless.

Huh!
I'm in case hell here

Really like RDS deluxe

The standard AND the blue link archery looking one

But the official Nintendo one, though less protective, looks cool with a stand built in, game slots built into material not as separate plastic case, and dual zippers/slim profile

I think I want rds and official

The question is which one the stock rds or the Zelda? Or both? Argh. Red and white zipper looks cool but so does blue and black with matching blue

(pics 2+3 same case, same with 4+5)

I've got the Zelda one but in plain gray. I only have the Switch in there, since all my games other than Zelda are downloads, in order to keep it protected. But! I put the console screen down on the internal flap thing, which then sits in the designated groove (for the buttons and analogue sticks). It's an extra layer of protection that just keeps the sticks safe, and it works in my very full bag!
[doublepost=1491211665][/doublepost]Hey fun story! My switch was underneath a shelf - screen up - where I keep big console accessories like PSVR, fight sticks etc. I grabbed the PSVR and it's weighty HDMI USB cable fell a few feet onto the Switch! I flinched and squeaked. Gave it a cleaning and there wasn't even a micro scratch (under sunlight!).

It's pretty tough.

Enjoy it. No one outsite the USA can get that Switch case. Only the US collectors edition of Zelda has it. Myself being Australian didn't get it in my collectors edition.

I did buy another case but not that I use it. My Switch stays docked 100% of the time. Even for Shovel Knight. Feels a little sad as I used the WiiU's screen more I am the Switch in portable mode. In saying that I used the WiiU's screen for the VC mostly. Since there is no VC for the Switch yet, that's probably the reason.

*************************

On another note, the Joycon and Pro Controller have an impressive wireless range. I had the Switch downstairs, nook the controllers upstars into an upstairs room and closed it's door. After pressing a few buttons I went downstairs to check if the imputs were registered, they were totally fine. Also the sticks work well from that distance too and through a closed door (well not totally closed as there's a little gap at the bottom of the door).

Still this impressed me. I didn't get any of these joycon issues that others supposedly have. This wireless pits the Wiimote to shame. Sure it's 2007 vs 2017 but even the Wiimote plus was not this good. Skyward Sword with the joycons could have actually been good. The Wiimote failed a bit for me during that game.

I can't talk highly enough of the joycons and pro controller. The Pro Controller is just as good as the WiiU one. I actually preferred the shape of the Wii Classic controller apart from the fact the cable is on the wrong side. The WiiU pro controller does hold fingerprints way too easily because it's shiny, but overall I libe both the WiiU and Switch pro controllers equally.
The joycons though they are great. On the grip they are just a poor man's pro controller and not that good. But separately they rock. I actually prefer using the dual joycons off the grip. If I did not own a pro controller I would play Zelda BOTW with both joycon not on the grip. The are so much better used together without the grip. Takes a few minutes to get used to this as it's not an initially natural feeling and there's no cable connecting both like the Wiimote + nunchick had. But once you get the feeling for it, it plays alazingly well.

For me, if the game is not retro inspired (ie plays better with a D-Pad) then I would totally recommend the joycons but not the grip. I really don't like the grip. I would not recommend trying to play Zelda BotW with a single joycon though, it works if you have small hands like mine at a pinch, but for longer play sessions just bust out that 2nd joycon (but keep the grip in the box). Sure the pro controller works as well, nut for those who can't justify it's crazy high price, the joycon work just as well for most things.

Meh,

I'm sure they tested the unit in dock mode - especially the developers who are making the games and probably just used dock mode most of the time.

IMHO - the guy had it in his back pocket and sat on it - now wants to blame Nintendo and get a free replacement...

If there is a problem - that's why it's always good to wait for an internal hardware update...

I have to throw in the towel soon, the self-propagated case craze is getting to be too much

trade in Breath of the wild at gamestop (had +$5 coupon on top towards credit to bump it up)
AND without a hit in cost, kept the original retail case..

and picked up special edition BOTW

returned both RDS deluxe, also have a Sheikah Eye PDP case on the way thats the same internally as this special edition (starter kit, we'll see if I keep that one or not), the official Nintendo sleeve with stand built in case, and Orzly.

That SHOULD cover the bases.

And I love this Sheikah Slate case so much! some mild imperfection(s) in its creation, but at this point, can't be bothered with a swap/worse one, return hell, and looks like a beauty

LOVE that it fits my Hori stand, USBC to USBA Nintendo cable, and iPad charger cube and has a buffer between switch and it,

could sub in battery pack for iPad cube I think, too

(the left handlelooking thing is the gamestop bag handle behind it haha, weird optical illusion)

FINALLY just got my pro controller. Haven't had much time to play around with it, but I love the larger buttons and the positioning of the joy sticks. The positions of the + and - buttons, as well as the screen shot buttons are much different, I'll have to get use do that.

Also, I picked up a dock cover from Etsy...this was originally to add some color to my dock, but then I thought it would also help protect the screen from scratches, don't really need it now that I have my glass screen protector.

So. I got my Swiitch on Saturday and been playing it in handheld mode most. Tried it in the dock for about a half hour, and just left it in there since Sunday night to charge. This morning(Tuesday) out of curiosity, I took it out of the dock and placed it on my desk, and i noticed a slight bend/warp. It rocks left-to-right a little on a flat surface. :/

It's in roughly the same spot as the picture in the reddit above... close to the vent.

Not sure what might have caused it as it is only 3-4 days old at this point. It could have even come this way, I do not know.

hmmm

Exact same dilema I had with these Zelda cases. Theyt all looked so nice I just thought screw it in the end and got all four. (Though oddly enough I won't actually be using mine to bring with me, and am treating them more as collectibles that I want to keep pristine). Not all my Zelda ones have turned up yet though (as they were all on slightly different pre-order times) but the one that did come I found that while padded well, they really don't give you room for much else besides what came with it. Have seen several people mention on forums about using the Zelda cases for storing the amiibos in which is how I will be using them. (they won't fit a switch in aswell as amiibos at the same time though, so will be using them for amiibos only), but it definitely did give me a good excuse to get all of them and solved my dilema!

For actually carrying my switch though I prefer not to use any of these though, as many exist with much more space in them. So I use my black Orzly one for actually bringing my switch with me (as that one had the most top pocket space out of all the ones I tried, so could even fit extra joycons aswell as my switch, plus a whole bunch of other stuff in there, which the zelda ones unfortunately don't have enough room to do.) Also no worries about the pattern coming off with a plain one, as I intend to keep my zelda ones looking as gorgeous as they came without having to worry about scuffing them up in my bag. So each type has their pros and cons, but this setup seems to work well for me.

OH YOU LUCKY THING!! Looks like you managed to get hold of the best of the Zelda Collectors Edition sets. The one you got that came with the proper Sheikah case is the one I wanted, but they were all sold out by the time I saw them on Amazon, and much smaller amounts of them were ever made, so I've got no hope of getting one of these now! When I bought Breath of the Wild, I had to get the other special edition set (the one that comes with the master sword and the other stuff, but not the Limited Edition case). The one you got though is like gold dust, so you definitely made the right decision snapping it up when you did, as many of us weren't anywhere near so lucky! Insanely jealous, but well done!!

So this is pretty close to what my Switch looks like(note* this is not my Switch)... after playing it in the dock for a total of maybe 30 minutes? Im really wondering if this is what it came like out of the box..

Can any of you guys check/compare your Swiitches?

Cheers

I sit corrected...

I don't know what to say.... I thought that only Smartphones bent due to their thin-ness...

Nice, Nintendo, you managed to get a small Tablet Computer to bend as well...

Yikes! Whatever disagreements we've had about the Switch, I'm ever so sorry that happened. You're reasonably sure that it wasn't like that when it came out of the box? If it's truly caused by the dock, the only thing that I can think is that that there's a very subtle concavity to the dock, probably intended to keep as little of the face from being in contact with the dock as possible (which could be why the most of the screen scratches I've seen have been at the margins). If so, the result is metallurgy 101: thin metal, heated and placed under directional pressure, becomes warped.

I honestly dont know if thats what it was like out-of-the-box, but over the last couple of days ive only used it for 2-3 hours at a stretch in handheld mode, and maybe 30-45 minutes total in the dock. (So pretty light use in general, which makes me wonder if that's how it was in the box to begin with).

Also, im not entirely certain the thing is made of metal, it feels like plastic (I could be wrong). The warp/bend is not in the center either, so i doubt its the dock applying pressure (symmetrically anyway)

While I can't swear to it, I believe that it's sheet aluminum. There was a pronounced temperature differential between the two when I first picked one up. The joy-cons, which definitely are plastic, were noticeably warmer when first touched than the tablet itself. I would say it's either metal or it's plastic with a metal impregnated coating.

As for the warp, the hypothetical concavity would be equilateral but the thermal diffusion from the primary heat source, the logic board, is concentrated on the right-hand side, which is the side with the more pronounced curve.

True. the guts and battery are not symmetrically located inside the unit. But its hard to imagine such light use causing this. anyway, looking forward to hear if anyone else here has this symptom..

EDIT>> Here's another image (not my Switch). My Switch is not as bad as these, but it is noticeable when Its on a flat surface as mentioned earlier.

I'll have to take mine out of the dock and look at it.

FYI, I have no idea what the Switch is made of...maybe the iFixIt tear down will show...but the MacBook Air is made out of aluminum. It feels solid, but if you have ever taken apart the bottom case, you realize just how thin it is.

When I was looking at the rMB (not the Pro), when I picked it up with one hand, it felt like it was twisting...I reasoned that case was too thin, and several months ago picked up a new 2015 MBA, since it seemed more rugged.

The biggest bummer beyond downtime if u have console related issues needing a swap (not joy con or dock stuff that you can work around, or a unit repair instead of replace) is you lose your saves.Or you could if the migration on their end doesn't go smooth.

That would be devastating. That's a lot of game progress lost

Nintendo needs to go cloud. And/or allow external SD card saves I would imagine at least one will come in an update eventually

What a short sighted omission!

Update
Upon much closer inspection, it doesn't even seem like a bend it is so minuscule. So i'm going to chalk it up to a 'manufacturing variation'. The symptom however, can be sortof reproduced by laying the tablet on a flat surface and pressing the corners to see if there is any movement, and i notice some movement when i press down on the upper right corner.

Cheers
