My last hand held console I invested in was a game boy color. I dont care about the NX. Ive recently bought a 3ds and could care less how much time is left it has because of the NX. I have 6 years worth of backlog of ds games and 5 years worth of 3ds games backlog. Enough to cover me over a million hours of play even if 3ds went out of business tomorrow.

Oh you have a lot of excellent games coming your way! Between the DS and 3DS there's a wealth of titles. And the 3DS has selected older games for download too. If you were lucky enough to get an "ambassador" 3DS you'd also have a load of GBA titles.

The GBA games they released for the Ambassador program had no save function or ability to put the system to sleep when active. As much as id like to play Zelda four swords I would not like being able to not save or sleep the console.

There are many great games I missed on the GBA as well but ebay is riddled with china fakes and non working cartridges. Even finding a GBA SP that isnt beat to hell is tough. I guess I will have to wait for Nintendo's next portable to play VC GBA games. It has to be on a portable as I do not enjoy playing hand held games on the tv/computer.

I'm surprised they haven't added GBA games to the New 3DS yet, like they did with SNES games. The Ambassador status got you 10 GBA games but Four Swords wasn't included, it basically turns your 3DS into a GBA during those games - warts and all. Though! They did give away the DSi version of Four Swords a couple of years ago to 3DS owners.

Is getting a GBA SP that tough? I've bought loads, a couple of years ago I really got into modding them and made a few game-themed ones. If you were desperate you could always buy a genuine GBA and get a replacement shell for it. (I did this for a cheap, beat up PSP recently). But currently I think the most comfortable and convenient way to play portable GBA is with a PSP.

2015 and now 2016 will have proven to be very boring years for both Apple and Nintendo.

2017 can't come soon enough: NX and a redesigned iPhone.

I can confirm the bold ... I bought them when I picked up my Wii U !!!! I spent SOOOO much money !!!
Oh wow, a huge Nintendo fan. I'm just as huge a Nintendo fan. But I waited for games I wanted before I bought the WiiU. Quite possibly your launch might have had different games on the day to the Australian launch. All the games I listed were there on my local launch and were in the booklet. The booklet I got on the day helped refresh my memory.

The NX looks to be even better with even more 3rd party support. I could be spending a lot on money March next year on the NX + games also.

Can't agree on that on the Nintendo front. A lot happened to Nintendo, good and bad. Great games at best and Iwata dying at worst.

I wish nintendo would explore new IPs. I played NES back when there were no legacies. All the games were new and fresh. They had no game history to do remakes of. It seems ever since NES Nintendo just take old IPs and make a new game out of it. I want the old nintendo when they were cranking games out like crazy just looking for new IPs. Creating new characters all the time not just bottom feeding off the old. It time for them to discover some new characters.

Um... Splatoon was released less than a year ago?

Because these are established characters with marketing that takes care of itself. We know what to expect so we're happy to play more (at least for most of us!). New IPs are great but this isn't the boom era any more, you can't just make a new IP and expect it to catch on. It's an expensive business, moreso for Nintendo as they develop hardware too, so it doesn't make sense to risk too much.

I'd like more games like Splatoon though. But I don't think a game's importance, fun, etc all rest on it being from a new series. It's just nice when it is.

The problem is that new IP's should be continually pushed until they stick. It's not like the major IP's have actually sold very well in the past few years.

Mario Land 3D sold poorly even against Knack. Indeed this has happened a lot outside of a few notable exceptions.

So if the big IP's aren't selling as well as they hope and new IP's are rare on the ground it's going to be a tough road.

They are relying hugely on Zelda this year at e3, and that's a big gamble. Windwaker (GC) Twilight Princess and SkySword all actually underperformed at retail. 3DS Zelda and the Wii U remake of Windwaker did OK, Twilight Princess HD has sold very poorly.

The fans 'OOO and Arr' over Zelda, but they clearly don't contribute enough to guarantee sales and I think Nintendo are very much putting all its eggs in one basket at this e3 and it could be a case of Humpty Dumpty - fall and break ....

I read an interesting interview not long ago. Apparently Nintendo develop "anonymous" game concepts first, and then when it's pretty much done, they see which of their existing IP's is the best fit for it. They decided that Splatoon wasn't a very good match for any of the existing franchises, and that's when they decided to make it a new IP.

So splatoon was more of a lucky accident than by design.

For me Nintendo are starting to become a bit of an insignificant presence in my gaming. Wii U releases for the next 12 months are all but dried up and even recent titles like the mediocre StarFox have left me cold.

By the time the NX comes around will enough of the 'mass' general consumers really care ? Genuine question.

Honestly, it's a question of how it's executed. If it's executed as poorly as the Wii U, there's no way it's going to attract many customers. If they do something with amazing promotion like the Wii, then they'd be the talk of the whole gaming generation. Like, I remember wanting a Wii so bad at the time. But the only reason I wanted a Wii U was because of a few games, clearly bad marketing here.

In fact, it's time for Sony and Microsoft to realise the same thing. The PS4 sold just under 40 million, which, compared to the PS3 or anything above is embarrassing. The XB1 sold only about 15 million, which is just pathetic. They need proper marketing, not relying on user loyalty to the brands, and introducing features that would sell. This entire generation of games is a mess really.

The PS3 sold around 85 million in 8 years, while the PS4 is nearing 40 million units after only 2 years. It took the PS3 5 years to reach the 50 million mark, so I don't think they have anything to afraid of and it is definitely NOT something to be embarrassed about! Heck, the PS4 has even sold better than the PS2, the worlds most sold console, at the 2 year mark.

The Xbox One is a different matter. It has certainly hit their sales that it is well known to be slower than the PS4, and MS' weird non-gaming PR approach at the introduction and awful anti-end user statements that they turned around on after a short while, didn't help either.

Regarding the Wii U2NX, I am REALLY looking forward to the reveal. Most rumors seem to indicate that we're either looking at something that isn't attached permanently to the TV, or is simply an updated Wii U 2 and not a true next generation product. If it doesn't hit the goal, I am quite certain that Nintendo is going portable only, or software only. They can't stand another Wii U disaster financially, and I doubt a DS NX can make a big dent in the phone-oriented gaming scene, as most people don't want to carry around two units that does more or less the same.

Zelda releases are certainly console movers. The Wind Waker HD release raised UK Wii U sales by almost 700%.

I just recently bought a Wii U and I'm loving it. I got rid of the Wii partway through it's generation cycle, so it feels like it's been a while since I had an Nintendo console. I'm a big Nintendo fan, but I never fully got on board with the Wii. I'm having a blast catching up with everything released on the Wii U, kind of feels like the Gamecube era again. All their IPs feel fresh since I haven't played them in a while. Splatoon is pretty cool too.

I'm really excited about the NX. I've stayed away from rumor stories, I want to genuinely be surprised when they reveal it. Whatever it ends up being I'm probably going to get it close to launch.

I'm not a huge Zelda fan ( I like them, but it's not my favorite Nintendo series ), but I'm very excited to see what they're doing with the new game. It sounds like this one is going to be a departure from the norm.

God I sold my Wii U after two years because there were absolutely no killer games for me being released. If this console is at least backwards compatible and/or has a reasonable eShop, I'll definitely consider it, on top of the other games that'll drop for this console.

It took me 5 years to get a PS3 because I didn't find any titles to be must-haves/killer/whatever. And I think 4 years for an Xbox 360 too (got it for Halo Anniversary and some XBLA titles). But that's what, IMO, backwards compatibility is for - to tide people over until killer titles arrive. Which is why my PS4 sat unused for a such a long time doing nothing whilst my PS3 was still my main console, all because it didn't have BC.

But we all like different games. The Wii U had it right off the bat for me with New Mario WiiU. But then it was dry until Mario Kart and Smash Bros.

Zero Punctuation review of latest StarFox and couldn't agree with him more this time.

Nintendo need to get their iP's in shape and stop grafting gimmick to 'enhance' experience when it's utterly unnecessary and unwanted.

Give us a great StarFox, a great F-Zero, a great Kid Icarus etc ...

If they keep massacring their first party titles like this, then the NX stands no chance as even fans have grown tired of this **** being served up to us ...

I was wondering if anyone plays nintendo roms through an emulator on your macs or pc?

Buying a Nintendo DS is tempting, but if I decide to jump on buying a rMB, that will serve much better if I can download all nintendo titles minus wii titles and just play them on my mac which will of course provide a bigger screen. I was reading rumors that nintendo put a stop to DS emulators.
