Well, the consoles doing very well http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...tendos-fastest-selling-console-ever-in-the-us

A lot of the devs I speak to are now confident about developing for it. Most opted for a "wait and see" originally. I plan on supporting the Switch should I ever make another console game.

EDIT: Oh hey remember that trailer Nintendo made for some game (might have been that Starfox one) where Shigsy was using a strange slim-looking Wii U Gamepad? I wonder if that was a Switch.

I am really thinking of buying a switch soon. Can someone comment on the quality of the LCD screen? I know it won't be OLED quality, but I really didn't like the dullness of my Wii U or 3ds XL screens. Is Switch bright enough and is it fairly uniform? Thank you!

Got the screen protector and body protector for the unit (will probably use it undocked)...

Now all I need is a Switch!

Gamestop has a deal if you turn in a system, you get an extra $25 in trade towards a new system.

Well, all they have are the "bundles" and may or may not get units for the store. I hope they don't get units in, all of a sudden, after the deal is over...

Have we already discussed microSD cards?

are you guys going digital or physical?

Whats the rush is physical out of curiosity? Debating getting a 128gb but might wait too, the Evo Select 128gb Samsung is $40 when in stock on amazon and has been for sometime, which is a re-branded Evo Plus, one of if not the highest regarded card.

But Im torn aside from peace of mind since the plan is to go physical as much as possible except where I can't (Indies)

I've not run any kind of test on screen uniformity (I don't even do that with my iPhones and iPads) but it looks fairly good in that area. It's definitely bright enough that most of the time when I'm playing indoors i have it pretty low, like close to or perhaps even under 20% brightness. It's definitely better than the Wii U and 3DS screens.

I'm in a situation where it's not that easy for me to get my hands of physical copies and it was especially bad for Wii U since I had a US console but most of the games sold around here were Japanese, which meant I couldn't buy any of those due to region locking. My only choice then, was to basically go digital or import.

However, I also don't have a ton of room with my current living situation so even with my PS4 I go mostly digital, aside from certain exceptions like getting the big Collector's Edition version of Persona 5. I did go physical with Breath of the Wild as I bought it alongside my console, but I imagine I will be going more down the digital route like I did with my 3DS.

By all means crank that puppy up (brightness) digital foundry said diminshing returns beneath 50 percent brightness. But over 50 is where it starts taking a noticeable dip. 20 is just Doing a disservice to your experience, unless you really can't stand a well lit screen haah

Yeah, I tend to go with pretty low brightness on most of my devices. Even my iPhone and iPad are usually around 30% (or less) brightness. I'm okay with a little more but even approaching 50% is too bright for me.

I do remember that test you mentioned though, so I'm definitely not afraid to crank up the brightness when I'm outside and it's necessary. However, in the few occasions where I've played in handheld mode at home, the low brightness worked well enough for me. I tend to play in docked mode more at home anyways, but next time I do handheld mode I'll try bumping the brightness up. :)

I always try to buy physical only because I resell or trade after I'm done with the game.

I'd like to buy one for my girlfriend (which means I'd get to use it when at her house), but it is still so expensive and I kind of don't like paying a scalper a profit. Anyone want to guess when it will be readily available in stores? And are there are any stores who will just ship you one once they have it? Like can I get on a waitlist where they project that I will have one at regular price in two or three weeks?

Hey! I set up a Japanese account to go with my American foreign one so I could buy games from all 3 regions. But I ended up finding a super sweet little game called Kamiko for 500 yen. It's mega cheap but I'm really enjoying it so far - reminds me of little freeware RPGs made in those WYSIWYG style game development apps from years ago.

(I love how easy the region free stuff on this is. I'm going to be doing a lot of travelling/maybe moving abroad later this year and knowing I can just buy games from any region I end up in fills me with... well admittedly a minor joy, but it's one less worry!)

Just got kamiko yesterday

Glad to be all set up for Japan eshop should any other epic and affordable titles come out.

I am all digital for PS4/XB1 but from the good resources here that advised Nintendo titles keep their value longer than most games, I am going physical.

Same as you. I'm in no rush just yet to buy memory cards just yet though until there are enough games out to warrant it. But I may end up doing it for my Switch in future, as that is how I like doing it on the 3DS, as it means carrying less stuff with you. (My 3DS just goes in my pocket on its own, and I've got everything I need). But on the Switch though, you already have to bring a tonne of extra stuff with you just to carry it anyway, and I've got a whole tonne of ways now to bring physical cartridges. (probably way more than I'll even need in a very long time). For example, both switch console travel cases I bought both come with their own way to carry cartridges. But on top of that, I also bought the Zelda Cartridge holder from Hori to go in the top pocket of my Orzly case, as while I do sometimes still use the built in pockets that console cases have for games, and I've never even once had a problem doing that, I do still prefer using physical plastic cartridge holders rather than using the built in cartridge pockets that the travel cases have (as it's technically better for the exposed electrical connectors than them rubbing up against the fabric of built in pockets). So the built in pockets I only use for my less important games, and for my favorite games I just feel more conformable in a physical housing to make 100% sure I'll never screw them up and lose all my game progress. (never happened yet though, touch wood).

However, since my Blue Sheikah Eye case finally came last week (after getting stuck in customs all that time), I've since discovered that the cartridge cases that the Sheikah Eye case came with are much much better to use then the Hori One I bought, so I might not even use it. Not only does the closing mechanism of the free ones with the sheikah case feel alot less vulnerable, but from a size point of view they're just way more space efficient.

As you'll be able to see from the pictures below, while the Hori Cartridge holder does still fit in the top pocket of the Orzly case just fine, doing so gives me less room for other things. Whereas, if I use the much thinner and smaller plain blue cartridge cases that came with my Sheikah Eye case inside the top pocket of the Orzly case, I've got room for absolutely tonnes of stuff. So this is how I think I'm going to do it from now on.

From all the photos I just took, the the Sheikah Eye travel case is the one on the right, and the Orzly travel case is the one on the left.
The Hori cartridge case is the big one with the picture of Link in his archery pose on it, and the smaller plain blue ones are the ones that come with the Sheikah Eye case. (notice how the difference in size is quite major)

Switch cases on the outside.jpeg

For the Travel cases themselves though, there are quite a few similarities between both the Sheikah Eye Case and the Orzly case (for example, they are both padded extremely well, and notice how they are pretty much identical in size on the outside). When you open them up and see what you can fit inside though, that's when you realize that they're quite different.

As you can see from the first photo, The Sheikah Eye case doesn't have a top pocket at all, and the Hori Cartridges Cases definitely won't fit in there with your switch in it. (The lid won't even close when doing that btw, not even if you force it). So using that one you have no other choice but to use the better smaller cartridge holders it comes with (which sit neatly underneath the switch in a special cutaway section, so for cartridges it's just fine) but other than that and maybe a USB cable in the middle flap, that's all that will go in it. So unfortunately this now means I can't use it for storing my amiibos in like I was originally planning to do. (and definitely no room for extra sets of joycons).

As you can see from the 2nd photo, the Orzly case on the left having a really big top pocket means I can fit the Hori Cartridge Case in just fine with everything else in it. (so I still had room for two joycon straps, a cable, and my portable battery pack, and could still fit other stuff in there too easily if I wanted to). But this was actually not the best combination.
Switch cases on the inside.jpeg

The most space efficient method is how I did it in Photo 3, where I used the smaller plain blue cartridge cases that came with my Sheikah eye case inside the top pocket my Orzly case instead of the Hori one. Doing that, I could fit everything I had in it before, only this time I still had ample room left for an extra set of joycons. (without having to take my cable or battery pack out in order to do it. -The joycons do still fit bedside the hori cartridge holder if I took other stuff out, but as you can see, the setup in photo 3 is still a far superior way of doing it, as it fits literally everything without having to sacrifice anything, and the whole case closes perfectly like that without any force). So this combination was by far the most space efficient of all the ways I tried.

(of course if you go the digital download method for games, you won't even need any cartridge cases at all, so if the switch game lineup gets massive, that's always an option too, but definitely no need just yet).

Speaking of extra joycons though, anyone seen the new yellow ones that Nintendo announced will be coming out in June when ARMS is released? Wasn't sure I liked the color at first, but I must admit, they're starting to grow on me.

Thanks for that. Still waiting on orzly haha good thing I'm not holding my breath and have other cases

I'm really really liking the official one, minimal but clutch.

I like the yellow joycons too, more than red at least, but after getting a blue pair, gonna wait until there's tons of color options and availability before considering more

Pro controller grey pair and blue pair works for me! Indefinitely

didn't have these devices but I've seen display model 3ds XL and seen a buddy's washed out Wii U screen

its way better

on its own, its an ok to decent screen. nothing mind blowing especially compared to like a 7/7+ in raw quality

but I'm enjoying it,

Hmmm... "Wonderboy The Dragon's Trap" looks interesting. The art style pleases my nostalgia.

Come to think of it, i'd also like Ducktales Remastered in cart form. Imagine the original NES box art on a Swiitch case. A Turtles in Time Remaster (not like the one which was actually made but just high res art/sprites) would be awesome as well.

Cheers

My god, are you still waiting for yours to come?? How long has it been for you so far? (If I was in your shoes I would have totally cancelled it, and just got the Amazon Fulfilled option instead so that I could get it expedited in days and have tracking options, etc.) They didn't have that option back when I ordered mine either, but Amazon themselves seem to have their own stock now (which is always infinitely better than all the cheapskate shipping options that most of the 3rd party sellers use when going direct). I always hate ordering direct from 3rd party sellers if there is an Amazon Fulfilled option available (unless I really have to), as I hate the uncertainty of not being able to track when my stuff will get here, and Amazon themselves generally have a much more efficient shipping system to begin with). Back when I ordered mine though, I didn't have a choice, as everything for the Switch was so new back then that for alot of stuff I wanted, it was the only way to get it. Fortunately I didn't wait anywhere near as long as many other people seem to have, but I do definitely still much prefer trackable options if I can get them. (I guess Amazon has made me kinda spoiled like that in a way). -Years ago I would have thought nothing of it when mail order stuff would tell me things even as long as 28 days, as it was fairly normal back then. But once you get used to being able to simply click a button and stuff just turns up a few days later, anything less just kinda makes me feel cheated now. (if you know what I mean).

Yeah, I'm also not sure whether the new yellow joycons will be sold as separates, or whether the only way to get them is with the ARMS game, as nobody seems to be even doing pre-orders for them yet anyway, as the announcement of even their existence is so new. So we'll just have to wait and see. ARMS is one of the games that I am tempted to buy though, But if you consider that joycons are like 70 bucks, and most switch games cost anywhere between 40-60 bucks, the combined price of those is alot of money to pay all at once. So unless the package deal is done how they did with the joycon and snipperclips package (where you essentially bought the joycons for 70 bucks still and the game was a free digital download) then that may make me change my mind, as with that one it essentially meant the game was totally free.

Have you played any of the Moster World games before, the ones from the Master System and Genesis? I beat it last night (in about 3.5 hours, blind) and it's definitely a retro sidescrolling platformer with a coat of paint, and all that that entails. The jumps are floaty, the cheapness of enemy placement places it right up there with Castlevania and boss battles are laughably easy. If those caveats don't matter to you, then by all means buy the game. I just couldn't let a fellow gamer that wasn't overtly a Monster World fan pay US$20 for a 3 - 4 hour game without saying something.

I might even buy that and I don't own a Switch.

probably the slowest and cheapest int'l mail from UK to US.

just checked and its here (finally)! good thing I wasn't holding my breath

I like the double zippers, its discreteness, its about same size as sheikah slate tho and tho it is more snug than sheikah slate with the mold for the system and elastic bands, the elastic bands already seem... annoying to take device in and out.

I feel like they all serve a purpose
Nintendo official- light travel, short commutes
Sheikah- collection for sure, sometimes heavy duty travel
Orzly- heavy duty travel/ want to bring a charger locally

I think its very underrated, personally, but I love my Nintendo official case. its like half the thickness, and stores 5 games, and doubles as a case-stand, too

sure u can't store literally anything else, but thats ok for what it is

Minimal protection too, this is like a laptop neoprene sleeve with an interesting texture on top, not a hard shell or anything, but I use a neoprene sleeve (though with a handle) for my 13 "rMBP and have for some time when I had rMB too,

I also like the double zippers, and I found this method to be best for storing it even though its technically backwards (switch logo on backside instead of front side), but having the stand/game holder on top of screen (non-game side against screen) provides a nice buffer,

It being underneath the system, in its normal fashion of the 'right way' to store it, causes joystick dimples to bulge out. definitely sketch, not gonna be doing that. (see last pic in the top left of case)

@thadoggfather The one in the last 2 pictures above is the official Nintendo one, right?

All the photos in previous post are the official Nintendo one.

Didn't post any orzly one cause Geekishly covered that quite well with photos of
His own

but here's my Orzly with iPad brick, usba to usb-c cable that was included with pro controller, joy cons, and anker power core 10000.

So! I'm not around as much as I used to be, partly due to the Switch :D

Picked up Wondergirl a few days ago, having never played a Wonderboy game before. I thought it looked outstanding so I bought it on screenshots alone... and boy what a treat that is! I've already played it on Normal, partner is currently playing through. It's the first time we've played one and didn't know what to expect. More of this!

Also playing through Kamiko and adventuring through Zelda hunting all the pieces to upgrade my armour.

Update on the bendy console - it hasn't got any worse. I do wonder if they ship like this. But oh well! If it becomes a problem later I'm sure Nintendo will fix it (like they did my DS Lite and Wii U).

Still eyeing up a Pro controller. I don't really need it I guess. I'm just trying to find ways of making lengthy Switch plays more comfortable.

But OH! One thing you must get is a tablet stand! I bought one off Amazon (Tyrone brand), built for iPads but they've labelled them as fitting the Switch too. And it's amazing. I'm sure there are many varieties of this type, but mine has a clamp that I've got attached to a table by a sofa. It has a bendy neck so I just wrestle it into place, open its jaws and put the Switch in. And boom... got a super comfy way of playing Switch.
