If you get it let us know your thoughts. I'm tempted by this too as Mac version is €21.99 here and switch is cheaper at €19.99

Havent had much time to game but I tried it out for 15 minutes. The controls seem weird/strange for this genre. The rest of it is great though, i like the visual style(nostalgia) and the writing is great.

Cheers

Ps havent tried it in portable mode yet

Bah I've been silly again. Bought the golf RPG game and Butcher.

Golf RPG is so sweet and nice. The dialogue is a little 'meme-y' rather than being the super sweet dialogue they could have gone for to mimic that classic Harvest Moon/Mario Golf/Earthbound vibe the game does have. I'm an hour in and I'm hooked.

But. Butcher. Wow. It's all my Amiga platform faves rolled into one. It has the linear level design of stuff like Turrican 3, it's gorey, it's very very fast and fun to play. I really like this one! If you do pick it up I recommend playing on a hard difficulty mode - as 'mature' as the game is it really is very easy. I'm breezing through without dying. Maybe it picks up later on? But for now I wish I had more of a challenge. It's very very easy to master controls too - like - by level 1 I had the movement down to a T.

I want to pick up Astro Bears because it looks like Tron bike game but with small planetoids and bears. (even though panda's aren't technically bears grrr) That Conga game looks good too but without the depth of the current games I'm hooked on so it can wait :)

(funny story: my SNES Mini preorder was due for midnight pickup last night... 200 miles away! So I've got another week before I can get it, another week of blasting through these Switch games before I fiiiinally try to complete Link to the Past)

@Dagless What's up with 2017 eh? For me, to have a major AAA new Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Sonic in the same year is quite unprecedented. And i've only gone through ~70% of Zelda.

Oh! And! A crossover between the most beloved characters and the most despised, where the wholesome beloved characters now have guns. And for it to be ACE. It’s a weird, brilliant year. I don’t think we’ll get another like it for a while.

I have googled it but can't see an answer anywhere - When you complete a challenge in Rabbids why then on the screen where it shows all the challenges does Toad have different colour hats ? As I have seen him wear a yellow on one, a green on another or even grey one on completion - Is it like a rating scheme ?

I just completed the first quest in the Zelda game. Man, this game consumes so much time! It's not hard, but it's time consuming! But anyway, I'm proud of myself. Now I have this thing that I can fly and I can explore the world of Zelda now! It's my first Zelda game on my first Nintendo console but I absolutely love it! I can play wherever and I can connect it to the iMac to have a big screen... I absolutely love the Switch...

I have 3 games: Zelda, Mario Kart and Splatoon 2. Do you guys can recommend other games which I should buy on amazon? Just curious of yours opinions.

Cheers! :D

Good question. All I know is that the colour of rabbis toads hats change depending on difficulty. No idea about ratings! But now I’m curious about this too.

Just downloaded Nintendo Arcade: Mario Brothers.

I only played Mario Brothers maybe once or twice on the machine - most places aound me had Donkey Kong if they had any Nintendo machine.

I played Mario Brothers on an NES when I finally got one for my collection back in the day and Funcoland was getting rid of their NES games for 4 for $1 (the NES I saved from the trash ).

This version, of course, is the actual arcade version (ROM?) under emulation.

Nice, plays exactly like the arcade machine with all the screens, intros, intermissions, etc.

Major CON:

What is up with the sound? Why do emulators always seem to have trouble with the sound? (Colors are okay, though).

It seems that some sounds are too loud and others too soft, plus it is really muffled. I wonder if it was programmed this way as it would play fine on a cheap speaker/amp circuit in their arcade cabinet...

(I am playing in handheld mode)

nvm -I went to YouTube and saw vids of people playing this game on MAME - yes, that's the way the sound is, then there's probably the audio amp and speaker in the cabinet to boost the sound.

The only question on the emulation is the sound made when Mario/Luigi are walking, but I guess with the release of this official emulated version, it is put to rest.

Play it a lot - love it. May try the Balloon one (only saw that cabinet a couple of time and never played).

Waiting impatiently for Donkey Kong... :)

For FIFA 18 owners, how do you use "Be a Pro mode?" I see a camera option in settings, but nothing from Kick Off mode. Can't seem to find it on my EA Access FIFA 18 trial on my X1 either.

Ah you've answered my question then as it looks like you can only complete these challenges with a pass or fail unlike the story mode - the hat colour just indicates the hardness of that challenge I reckon.

Gosh... another binge. I picked up (have to get my Switch out to confirm haha)

Axiom Verge - might have mentioned that before, had it on PS4 but didn’t play much of it. Liked it but found it a little too derivative of Super Metroid just after I finished playing the original. Whereas now I’m itching for more Metroid.
Plantera DX - Japanese game
KOI - also Japanese game, I had extra yen to spend!
Metal Slug X - because it’s METAL SLUG X
Stardew Valley - because everyone loves it apparently.

So! Axiom Verge! It’s good. It’s a nice Metroidvania with upgradeable weapons, yeah there’s more focus on weapons here than Metroid. The player is some hipster dude which instantly turned me off the game but the fun gameplay brought me back. The music is really catchy and it’s very difficult.

KOI is what I wanted but all my Japanese eShop code sites no longer stock 500 point cards so I went for 1000 points and bought another curio too. KOI is pleasant. It’s a slow paced game where you just float around finding fish in a pond and ‘activating’ lily’s and other pond plants. It’s a nice change, very soothing actually. Almost AMSR.

Plantera is a funny one. I quietly wanted it for ages but didn’t even know what it was called! The Microsoft translate app didn’t get the name right so it was only when the game was sat on my menu that I finally discovered its name! OK SO! It’s another pleasant game. This time you play some animal and you plant seeds. That’s it! You get more seeds, more animals show up, and it just grows.

METAL SLUG X! It’s a remake of 2, and I’m so glad I held out for this as 2 was on the eShop very early on. It’s glorious! The music, the visuals, the bosses. It’s mad action from start to finish, plus it supports co-op and unlimited lives. Give it a go please!

Stardew Valley. Ok so I’m playing it and it’s nice. I’m onto day 8 I think and still exploring. However I don’t see what all the fuss is about. It’s just okay so far. My theory is that as theres no Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon games for PC that when a similar title is released, no matter how good or bad it is, people are going to flock to it. And that’s whats happened here. It’s mediocre compared to the 3DS Animal Crossing, the interface is dreadful, the art is plain and looks like Final Fantasy sprites recoloured (happens with a few other PC indie games too, ie Terarria and its derivatives), no explanation of controls until you reload a save file. But catchy music and nice lighting effects over the pixel art. It’s meh SO FAR at least. I want to like it... I spent a tenner on it after all!

Aaand I bought a little stand for my little buddy. It’s a Hori thing that it just sits on when in tabletop mode and lets it sit at 3 different angles. It’s really useful! No more balancing my Switch ontop of various cases and bags when out and about :D it’s also got a handy hole for the USB-C port so I’m able to connect it to the “mini dock” I imported.

Yup. Hacked. :)

I was thrilled to learn my local Best Buy will be selling Super Mario Odyssey at 9:00pm the night before release. Why? Because it's midnight in Eastern time zone.
Extra lucky for me because I leave on a road trip the following morning before stores open.
I'll be getting plenty of Odyssey time in!

Yeah, I saw it was coming out but wanted to try it first. I thought there was a demo on Steam, but was wrong.

Then I remembered that there was a "physical copy" at Gamestop, and it was being closed-out for $5. I went back and couldn't find any of their PC games. I got the Manager and they had relocated all their PC physical copies to some small corner of the store.

I'm into collecting these "PC Physical Copies" now because they will be the last. They are probably just going to go to those "download cards".

It is a nice copy - has a steelcase, full manual, and I thought just a download code but there's actually a physical CD of the game in .zip (you expand it to a folder and just run the .exe) and the CD Soundtrack, all having nice artwork. A nice find...

I played a couple of levels and liked it. But it crashed... :( I guess I can go to the publisher's website to see if there's a patch.

But, anyways, I bought the Switch copy - it is fun to have it on the go anyways.

It has TurboGrafix-16 graphics, and the sounds are a mix of Atari 2600, Intellivision, and Odyssey 2...

I guess the music is NES...

I guess this style now being called V A P O R.... ;)

(I downloaded a 3DS game like that, it has 80's vector graphics and the music is early 90's Smooth Jazz - was wondering why all the throwback?)

Have you played Harvest Moon on the SNES? That game was so much fun back in the day and Stardew Valley is just as good with more depth in certain parts. The plain art is the aesthetic that the developer was going for and it's not meant to be an Animal Crossing clone. It's more a clone of Harvest Moon SNES.

You also need to realise that one person developed Stardew Valley. Apart from some publishing work which a second person helped out on, all on the development work, was done by him. Very few one person developedgames are this good. Is the game perfect? No. But for $16 (in Australia) on the Switch it's a great price for all the content you get.

The game is just not your cup of tea. We understand and that's cool, however the game is very good for the price and one of the better Harvest Moon like games to come out on a while.

So, lovely of her, my MiL gave me some eShop vouchers for helping tidy her house. I’ve been waiting for Flame in the Flood for a while so I jumped on that. I wanted it back on PC but that was way after I stopped playing/buying PC games so I’m mega glad it’s arrived on my favest console ever. And apparently Neon Chrome is decent too, so I got that!

Opinions to follow later!

Quick question... My son has been saving for a Switch and he's pretty much there. We told him we'd pay for a game and an extra controller (which is pretty much for me anyway). Does the Joy-Con grip that comes in the box allow for charging the controllers or do we have to attach them to the Switch? I know you can buy a charging grip, just not sure if that's what comes in the box.

Thanks!

What comes in the box does not charge the Joy-Con.

While I'm here, my experience has been: Joy-Con never die. 20 hr battery life, and always getting charged by the console when not playing / in handheld mode.
Pro controller is spendy, but possibly the best controller ever. =)

You would think that it would've been cheaper for Nintendo to make and design only one Joy-Con grip that also charges rather than two different ones and then the packaging for both...
[doublepost=1508267945][/doublepost]Also, I was just at the Target I frequent earlier today.

The Nintendo Switch Kiosk now has a console and 2 pairs of Joy-Con's with playable demos.

Demos so far:

Super Mario Odyssey
ARMS
Mario Kart 8
Zelda BOTW
Pokeman Tournament

Looks like there are place-holders for many, many other games (the "tiles" are there, but you can't hit "A to play" - yet).

I tried Super Mario Odyssey. What can I say, it's Super Mario in a 3D world. I don't really play these anymore (except in 3D on a new 3DS XL). It is gonna be a hit, though...

I got it yesterday and so far seems good. It took a while for me to get the gist of things but once I caught on it was good.

One thing I don't like too much, or need to get used to, is the control layout. You walk with the left stick (or the left four buttons) and perform actions like jumping and digging with the right buttons. But--to me--strangely you run by holding down the Y button. So to jump far/high you have to use the left controls to move, hold Y to run, then quickly press B in order to jump. I would have preferred that Run was simply a press of the left stick, while moving right or left. Or perhaps a top button for run.

Well I finished Dig 2. Took me nearly 30 hours, but I finished it. A lot of that time was going back into the caves to finish them, and gather more gems to better equip my-Dot-self for the finale. I finally "got it" when going back into the caves, by "it" I mean finding solutions that seemed impossible the first time through.

Really enjoyed this game! Will play it again, I am sure.
