Looks like a big update with 4.0....allowing for pre orders and pre loading also you can move profile/save data over to another Switch...awesome!

I was hoping they added pre order and pre loading...going to buy Mario Odyssey right now if it’s an option.

Switch is really rolling out the games...Rogue Trooper looks great and I think I’m going to get it.

Bless

There’s also an update for the joy-cons. It’s not automatic, you have to manually start it in the system settings. Nintendo didn’t add patch notes for this so I thought I should let you know.

Joycon and FW update doesn’t fix a bug I’m having where they can’t wake the system up remotely. Which kinda sucks.

Audio over USB works too, even with wireless USB headphones. Huuuge step forward. I dunno if they’ll ever be able to get BT audio working as the device wasn’t certified for that… and dunno if they can update certification later. Gosh I hope it happens, would save me carrying around two pairs of headphones :(

The lack of Bluetooth audio is almost unforgivable - so handy if you're out and about and need the audio from a game. Christ even my old Vita does BT audio.

I can’t tell if I’m more excited over Skyrim or Mario Odyssey at this point! I’ve felt the Skyrim universe pull me in again, currently listening to the soundtrack :( what I love about that game is just getting the main introduction bit out of the way with and then just going on random adventures. I’ve started playing it maybe 3 times and each time I start in a different direction and see stuff I didn’t spot before, which unfurls into huge side quests. It’s so inspiring! Gah! Come to Switch!

However it’s the only console that supports it. Even the New 3DS didn’t have it, nor do the behemoth consoles. I’ve considered buying a dongle thing to get BT audio working on Switch but they’re just too bulky and reviews are untrustworthy.

Just tragic really that both the new PS4 and Xbox One dont support BT headphones as currently ALL phones are heading that way. I really hope that N does update the Switch to accept BT headphones as it would be so much handier than a) having to carry a lead connector and b) eliminating the trailing wire.

I picked up some more games, I can’t remember what they are though! Ho ho. I’m still so hooked on Minecraft and Neuro Voider. Marios out next week. Very excited for that now :)

I got a BlueTooth dongle to use my AirPods on Switch. Not worth it.
There is lag and bad sound quality.
Exactly why I didn’t bother getting a BT adapter.

Sounds much like MRU.. ;)

Really tempted to buy a Switch with Mario Odyssey sounding mighty intriguing. Kicked the WiiU outta the living room into storage space and got a nice little spot for it now..just waiting till the ID soft titles are coming (did read somewhere, probably over here, that they eventually will be ported).

So what are the download sizes of big titles like Zelda abd Odyssey? And what's the biggest storage card one can use?
13.4 and 5.7 GB. Together they take up roughly 75% of the Switch's built in memory (without any DLC). For perspective you could still install MK8 and have room for an indie game or two.

The Switch supports SDHC up to 32GB, and with SDXC as big as is available right now (practically speaking, 256GB).

Do Zelda and Mario have waggle controls? Like, shake the controller to super jump or something? Or can I enjoy those games completely waggle-free?

Zelda: Minimal motion control, optional and helpful for aiming arrows. A couple shrines require motion control to defeat and are widely considered a pain.

Mario: Emphasis many uses of motion control, all but a core mechanic.

Some action exaggerations, like climbing faster, can be replicated by holding Y whilst doing them.
Is it possible to do the cap toss auto aim without doing motion control? Can’t seem to figure it out. I was able to do it by shaking the Pro controller, but I wouldn’t want to shake the whole thing when playing portable.

Nintendo just can’t let go of motion control can they..

So I am starting to consider buying a Switch. There are some factors keeping me from all-out euphoria though:

Storage:
Going all digital would be kind of cool, but the sdxc cards are pretty expensive, and even they will fill up fast enough once enough good games are out. Buying physical cartridges sounds nice and easier in theory, but I just read about LA Noire requiring an additional 14GB download onto internal storage to play the game. So even with carts, you still have to juggle with storage, which should be an absolute no-no.

Battery Life:
If I want to use it on a long distance flight or train ride, I'll likely have to find a way to recharge it at some point. I would primarily use it at home though, so not a huge issue.

Motion controls:
Ugh, hate them. At this point, especially with a handheld device, at least make them optional!

Games:
The reason I want to buy one is to play Zelda and Mario....and I guess that's it for awhile. Maybe even Mario Kart? I still want to play Skyrim, but I will probably get the PS4 version for the better looking game at home vs. the Switch version for portability. Same for Minecraft, which I already have on PS4. Other than that, there isn't much for me at this point. Any big Nintendo 1st party titles coming up?

Virtual Console:
Are there any definite details on this yet? If I could have a vast selection of SNES title to purchase and play on this, it would be very awesome.

So basically, I am craving Nintendo first party title joy, like Mario and Zelda. Adding SNES and maybe even N64 titles to it would be even better. But I can't quite justify the investment right now, my list of pros comes up short compared to the cons...

.

Storage: Yeah, DOOM will require a 23 Gig download. But that's the DLC and Multiplayer maps. You can just still play the single-player without a download (my understanding). Memory cards will be dropping and you should be able to get a good deal on one this holiday season.

Motion Control: They are optional, usually a setting in the menu.

Virtual Console: Nintendo is working on Virtual Arcade releases right now. Mario Brothers is the first release - it is awesome - it plays just like the cabinet. I can't wait for Donkey Kong. I assume VC will be next year.

2 new games released going to download today!

The Morphite
Sparkle 2 EVO

Was gonna buy them on Steam but *interception* Switch!!!

We just bought a Switch and only game we have right now is Mario Kart 8.

Right now it's just my son and I playing. Is there an easy way to link a profile (I guess that's what you'd call it - where we select a Nintendo character and add our name) to a Mii that we built? When we play we sometimes have two of my Mii and not one for my son. There's also something funky about having to log in. And at other times I think it's tracking the wrong stats under the wrong Mii. Just seems overly complicated like I should be able to go into my profile and attach my Mii to it.

Hopefully I'm just missing something simple. Any help would be appreciated!

A bunch of Switches are available in the Best Buy Yorba Linda store including the Mario Odyssey bundle. For the first seven months I couldn't find one anywhere. Good to see more of them in stores.

The Gamestop I was at had a bunch of the Mario bundles. The Target had a few of the Neon ones.

That's going to change over the next few weeks with the Holidays - anyone that wants one better get one by next weekend...

Bought one today!! :D

Got the Mario bundle (red joycons), Pro Controller and a 128 GB sdhx card. Going all digital with this one!

Fun little device. Played all night using the Pro Controller. Not sure if the joycons would work for me. I was shocked how loose the Switch is sitting in the dock.

Mario Odyssey is outstanding!

Also planning to buy Zelda. Not sure what else at this point though...

Nice! Make sure you look for the Zelda "Explorers Bundle," same price but you'll get a cool printed bonus.
