As for me, I can't get used to it. My eye is drawn to that ugly, blank cutout at the top of the iPhone screen. It's a design disaster.

I can't help thinking that once they figure out how to do away with the notch, owners of all of these notched phones won't be able to dump them fast enough.

Don't look at it as a notch. You were not getting that area to begin with because it has to have hardware in it. The other option is a thicker top bezel.

Look at it as ears. You're being given extra space either side of the hardware to put icons in. That means everything gets shuffled into that space, giving you extra vertical space for apps, not taken up by icons.

Ears. Not notch.

I'm happy to take the trade off for Face ID and edge-to-edge display. The notch serves both a practical and aesthetic purpose.

Conversely, notches in competitors' products offer neither of the above and they're doing it just to copy Apple's design.

I like Touch ID better than Face ID. I find it slower to unlock my phone whereas before I could have it unlocked before it even left my pocket.

When they have released the X last year I thought the notch is a real design fail. Now I have the XS Max and I really like it. It doesn't look bad

Looks like I can't change the poll; otherwise I would.

That’s OK, we know what the intent is. While some (most) do not even notice after a while, it drives some crazy. I, for one, am glad stuff like this does not bother me. The red dot did not bother me either. I do understand that everyone is different and some will never be able to “un-see” the notch.

I like TouchID better in that it is simpler for me to use with Apple Pay. I use it a lot around town and it is simpler for me to put my thumb on the button and reach across and get it near NFC reader and *poof* I am done. Don't have to look at it or doublepress anything -- it's just done and over with.

And I hate BUN (Big Ugly Notch) as well. I will keep my 8 plus until Apple figures out a way to get rid of that fugly thing.

Are we starting this chewed out discussion again ?

Ad nauseam is a Latin term for argument or other discussion that has continued 'to [the point of] nausea'. For example, the sentence "This topic has been discussed ad nauseam" signifies that the topic in question has been discussed extensively, and that those involved in the discussion have grown tired of it.

Like it, love it, hate it, don't care? In the end, it doesn't matter. IT'S THERE. No matter how many new threads are started, the notch will not magically disappear. Over a year now...

I prefer the notch over the huge forehead (and chin) it replaced. I don't watch a lot of media on my phone so it really is a non-issue for me. I can see how it might be annoying for those that do but I feel like you're losing content even disregarding the notch. If you zoom it out, you get all of your content pill-boxed in an area about the size of what you'd get on an iPhone 8.

As has been mentioned, these threads typically come from people who don't actually use a phone with a notch and more often than not it's from a member that has a history of iPhone bashing.

Your have your priorities backwards.

Never even noticed it to begin with.
When you go from a design with a forehead and a chin, the notch is "invisible". Just don’t understand all the noise about it.

If the notch wasn’t there then there would at least be a forehead. In that case people would be moaning about that too - “errrr those bezels, it’s fugly, it’s so 1950’s....” You know the score. Some people love to moan.

I started a thread about the headphone jack disappearance and it is more like function overtaking form. The design needed to get rid of the headphone jack. And similar the notch is a necessity at this time. It’ll be gone in 4 yrs I bet.
