I can't help thinking that once they figure out how to do away with the notch.

“Do away”? Apple chose this design method with the notch, they weren’t forced. To them, it’s the current iPhone trademark and now the competition is following with the same design element. What does that tell you? Either way, notch is and always will be, a _Non_ issue.

Apple wasn’t the first to do it either, but like the headphone jack they get all the blame.

I have NEVER accepted it and NEVER will. It's ugly and takes away from the screen experience. It comes down to a really bad design and I'm sure they'll either make it small or get rid of it when the technology advances. Just don't support it and buy the stupid TEN series phones.

It was either that or continue to use big bezels and waste an entire row for icons at the sametime or use a notch. At some point technology will allow for cameras to work under a lit display until then its a trade off.

A year later. Hasn't this already been beaten like a dead horse? I went from the 7+ to the Xs MAX. The notch hasn't been an issue at all for me though a part of me expected it to be due to things people were posting about it. If anything, it's like they could put a couple things not necessary to see all the time (signal and battery strength, wifi active, etc) up and out of the way while allowing more screen for productivity.

It's not a problem unless you really want to make it one. Like the OP seems to be trying to do.

The notch has never been a issue for me, and I laugh at how upset people get over it. I don’t notice it one bit. Maybe if I were to stare at my phone and really think hard about the notch it might come into play. But I have better things to do. I love my iPhone X. Excelsior!

I don’t like it for a bit when switching back to my phone from my iPad Pro. Prefer the normal paper shaped screen of my older iPad over the notch and rounded corners of my Xr

I like TouchID better in that it is simpler for me to use with Apple Pay. I use it a lot around town and it is simpler for me to put my thumb on the button and reach across and get it near NFC reader and *poof* I am done. Don't have to look at it or doublepress anything -- it's just done and over with.

And I hate BUN (Big Ugly Notch) as well. I will keep my 8 plus until Apple figures out a way to get rid of that fugly thing.

Right. So you haven’t actually used it.

Huh? Tell me where I am wrong on how Apple Pay works with FaceID then.

How do you pay with Apple Pay on iPhone X at retail? Here's what it said when I looked it up:

Double click the Side button to bring up Apple Pay.
Look at your iPhone X to authenticate with Face ID.

So again, why should I have to doubleclick anything to use Apple Pay? Why should I have to look at the screen? I just pick up my iPhone 8+ and keep my thumb on the home key and bring it near the NFC and *poof* done.

Galaxy S9 design looks good, thin bezels

Exactly. In fact, the Samsung bezels on the side are almost nonexistent. Its got an itty bitty chin and top bezel, and a massive, uninterrupted gorgeous screen that you can fully use without part of your movie missing...

It's not like the only choices are Notch, versus the 3/4 inch bezels that Apple fans lovingly bought for 9+ years... LOL

And perhaps if "OMG, yet another notch thread" is your response, perhaps the fact that there is a new one, daily, a year after launch... maybe that should tell you that the notch is not as adored as your have convinced yourself it is?

I mean, if the same person started a new thread daily, yeah... but that's not the case, is it?

That's an interesting point, but as I never really used Apple Pay or Samsung Pay, I can't tell what the differences might be, personally...

But it reminds me that everyone says that Face ID is "so fast and worthwhile" in order to justify the notch... Is it? I mean, you have to pick up the phone, hold it in such a way that your face is "in shot", and then you still have to wait 1-2 seconds for it to authenticate you so that you can swipe up from the bottom of the phone to actually unlock it.

That's longer and more manual steps than Samsung iris scan or any phone with a fingerprint ID requires... Those phones you just pick it up and look at it, or you pick it up and because they were smart about where they put the finger reader, it unlocks just by you holding it...

And with Face ID being successfully fooled by pictures and things, is it really all THAT secure that the extra steps and piece of your screen missing are worth it?

Easy to answer. Apple fans say yes, because they say yes to whatever Apple does, and the Android fans say no, because they are used to having their way when it comes to hardware and features and they dislike most of what Apple does... haha

If you are actually using your phone and reading stuff on the screen, you don’t notice it.
