i would love a basic-black MBP. not glossy, just basic non-smudge flat black, though a glossy exterior would be ok.

i saw the new quad-core (yes!) MicroExpress NP the other day and it just dripped both class and ferocity. quad processor, 3 harddrives , 2 of them optionally solid-state, all in "piano black". just gorgeous, and right around 3g nicely equipped. but no Leopard, *pout* ..

personally i think black is the quintessential classic for all electronics and i hate when the market deviates from it just out of trendiness. Apple even knows this which is why they make the more expensive MB black as an enticement. i just wish they offered the same carrot with the MBP, i'd pay more for black if it came down to it.

Nobody's denying that, it's just that for a "desktop" those features have no value whatsoever to the user. If those features are unappealing to you then it's doubly painful to pay the extra money for them.

If those features are unappealing to you, why the $%&@ are you buying a laptop? :p

Well, this isn't my situation exactly but the strange gap in Apple's product line in between "consumer all-in-one computing appliance" and "ridiculously expensive eight core professional workstation" does put a MBP right in the crosshairs of users who might otherwise choose to buy a mid-range desktop machine.

Isn't that what's the "Build to order" option suppose to cover? All the gaps between product-lines? Giving the user a little more flexibility - though seriously... no company can satisfy the needs of every single individual! guess that's why some choose to build a OEM PC. :p

just my 2 cents.
