When I asked one of the Apple Store employees in Melbourne about MWSF and the possible update of the MBP, he just gave me a big grin and said "he signed contacts" so he cant disclose any information about it.
He didn't tell me to buy, but didn't tell me not to buy. But that big grin gives me a bit of hope in terms of an update.
I'm waiting for 2011 MacWorld!
It's still a good idea to learn product release schedules in order to purchase when a product is at its newest.the problem with technology is wait and buy...and 8 months later the latest and greatest comes out. if you are on the fence and want to buy, go and get it. the current batch have minimal or little issues from what i've seen. the new ones that come out are bound to have "launch" issues given Apples track record.
I highly doubt anything revolutionary will come out for the mbp at macworld that would make current owners regret their purchase or want to sell and buy the new one.
Can't always keep up tech...just buy and enjoy.
I got one sealed at 1750 with 4gb! you wanna spend 2k? lolI'm wondering about a scenario in which I'd have the option to buy a MBP, new, with the current specs that exist today, but after an update. I simply ask because I am torn both ways. Not wanting to spend the full price on a system that will be "outdated" soon, but also wary of the risk of potential problems with the newest hardware.
Are we looking at something like $2000 for a new 2.4ghz 15" after an update? Would only resellers be selling those models, not Apple?

She's still using that machine, and the fact that it wasn't the latest machine 2 years ago hasn't changed the fact that she still uses that machine extensively.
Looking forward to something, anything to enhance the current MBP offering as I'm ready to purchase!
off topic for penryn but on topic for the current discussion..
My problem has been that I am a desktop person. I hate paying more for less performance. I've been building custom pc desktops since I was in 8th grade. It's hard to know that for the price of a mbp I can build a desktop that is twice as powerful.
I'm not impressed by the current batch of mbp's, mostly because I'm not impressed by the laptop market in general..or at least the performancerice ratio of laptop computers.
I have to wait for the latest and greatest because that's just how I am. I can't justify $2000 on current technology.
edit-That's performance : price ratio. Left the smiley and the rice because It's funny.

Hardly outdated but not the newest and greatest. Who cares if your a few seconds slower. It is a never ending game. I have had my 2.16 MBP Core Duo for almost 2 years now and it still runs quite fast. You will always have a few who must have the fastest out of an obsession but in reality my almost two year older MBP holds it own fine with the newest one just fine.

this pretty much explains it all, lolBut I doubt that your mum is the sort of person who would become a member of MacRumours or generally interest herself in technology as the majority on here would. The average member of MR would place high importance on this because technology is their forte.
Nobody's denying that, it's just that for a "desktop" those features have no value whatsoever to the user. If those features are unappealing to you then it's doubly painful to pay the extra money for them.Would that desktop have the dimensions of most magazines, and weigh 5 pounds? Could that desktop run for hours without mains power? Would that desktop have a built in LED display, keyboard, webcam, speakers and mouse? These features have to be incorporated into the price, it's not all about the bare specs...
