Old joke thats not even remotely funny anymore. Vista borrowed ideas from OS X at that time and no one but the ardent MS fan will deny that.

More importantly though...so what? who cares?

The entire industry have always borrowed ideas from each other. Or are you going to seriously tell me Google is the master of all original innovation and they've never copied anyone?

This is what Android looked like at 1.0. Form factor looks familiar...

Then we had Eric Schmidt on Apple's board and the result became this.

Palm does ringer switch and threaded messaging, Apple implements it too in 2007. Konqueror widgets became Dashboard in OS X Tiger.

Apple brings out their imagination of mobile copy/paste. Android and Windows Phone promptly copy it...pretty much like for like.

The debates on these forums at times are just freaking hilarious.

Why are you referencing the Galaxy S at all? The TouchWiz UI has nothing to do with Android, Google or Schmidt. It is purely Samsung's property and UI.

The transition from a non touch based UI and a touch based UI in smartphone OS's is quite normal too. Symbian evolved from a non touch based OS to a touch based OS without the influence of Apple (S60 vs UIQ).

The iPhone arrived when the Capacitive touchscreen started to arrive into the mobile industry with the LG Prada being one of the first to include it. Operating systems evolve with the technology available to them and Android followed suit.

....Are you sure apple hasn't had a patent for wifi syncing for years now?

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news...-talks-remote-streaming-syncing-squirting.ars

I'm not saying they definitely do, thats for the courts, but as you can see they've obviously been thinking about this for a while. Steve was even asked in an interview a few years ago about wifi syncing, this has been on everyones minds since the introduction of the iPhone.

Explain the icon.

More importantly though...so what? who cares?

Seems Apple cares enough to sue a bunch of industry players. And they care enough to then turn around and do exactly what they called foul on a few months earlier.

Again, no one cares about the copying. It's in every industry, it's done all the time. Personally I do care though that Apple shows such blatant hypocrisy and the same people that are red in the face in the lawsuits threads calling for Samsung's or HTC's or Google's head for copying Apple just brush it aside when Apple does the same thing.

Hypocrisy all around. It's an ugly thing. Apple is no better than any other players it seems, they just like to pretend they are and some people will go to great lengths to validate that imaginary superiority.

Explain the icon.

The developer should first explain how he got Apple's icon elements in there. Combine Apple's iSync icon with wifi and that's what you get.

If he wants to allege that he was ripped off by Apple he should put his money where his mouth is and pursue Apple, otherwise there's no merit to his claim. Looks like he used the iSync icon for part of his version. If he can't or won't address this point, then there's not much to any claim of copying.

Saw this on another forum and thought it'd be interesting considering it's LTD's personal hero, John Gruber.

Timeline of reaction to Android's notification system and iOS 5

1. http://daringfireball.net/linked/2010/06/08/kincaid

Put another way, I think there are Android users like Kincaid who hoped to see Apple play catch-up to Android in certain areas, but I don’t think Apple sees any areas where they need to make iOS more Android-like at all.

2. http://5by5.tv/talkshow/45

I don’t think Android’s [notifications] are good. I don’t like it. I really don’t.

3. http://5by5.tv/talkshow/46

the new iOS notification UI, which is very much structurally... fundamentally, in terms of where it is, it’s pretty much exactly Android’s UI...

I love it.

Hahahahaha owned. Gruber is a biased hack and it wouldn't surprise me if he's on Apple's payroll.

But perhaps my mistake up until now was I actually thought Gruber was a journalist. Turns out he's just some Apple fanboy who has a blog and has the audacity to charge people for a meaningless membership on it. So hopefully that means no one actually takes that biased hack seriously. Except for LTD, who I'm sure has a lifetime membership to Gruber's online rag.

Not to mention that the Android phone he posted, the "1.0" one that looks like a Blackberry was a prototype that never shipped and was never sold.

The first Android phone to ship looks nothing like an iPhone:

Man I am going to have to save that list as it is great to complete invalidates any arguments from the guy. Means LTD is going to have to find some new source to bash non apple stuff.

True and add to it Google tends to release prototypes as when they are still in development so you might have basicly an alpha to look at that was just nothing more than a basic test bed for things. Compared to Apple were we only see near finished if not finished products.

That first Android phone released I knew a few people who owned it and they liked it quite a bit. I though the slider design on it was pretty interesting and different. Threw me off the first time I played with it.

...and what? Google isn't Hypocritical? gimme a break.

PS- Would YOU still release that prototype after seeing the iPhone's introduction? of course they were gonna go back to the drawing board. Come on people.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't Google have accused the entire industry of copying their innovations, and then turned around and copied off everyone else, in the same year.

That is what we are discussing. Not the actually copying, but the whole "Everyone else copied our inventions!" Apple shouted to us all on the iPad 2 release, and then them going and taking a load of Google's and RIM's ideas and putting them in their products.

Well, I think it is wrong. But then again, I'm getting some sweet Android features on my phone, so I'm not too bothered. I think certain users need to just accept Apple are not always smelling of roses all the time.

You just wait. Microsoft has already made the first move...others will soon join.

They are all the same. Talk smack.

It's not news that Apple is arrogant. Why people are getting irate over this is puzzling.

Carry on though. Its entertaining to read.

Not only does Apple whine when others copy from Apple, they sue. Apple's currently suing Samsung for it. And they turn around and copy off Android and WP7. I hope Google and MS both take Apple to court over this, because you know damn well Apple would if the tables were turned.
