Well, first up, I'd recommend you update your copy of PS3MS.

Also: I'd like a bigger cache. Like heaps bigger.

Yea, the problem with that is that I am running the PS3 Media Server off a G4 Power Mac (just so you know, this isn't my main machine), so 1.02 is the highest version I can have. Could that be the problem, I'm running it off too old of a computer?

I did set up the current version of PS3 Media Server on my iMac (a current gen 3.06 ghz model), but I did it this morning before I went to school, so I didn't have anytime to play with it.

I think that was the problem; the version on my Power Mac was too old. I loaded the media server onto my iMac and was able to stream the .mp4 file to the PlayStation. The streaming wasn't flawless though; It was like watching a high quality video on You Tube with my DSL. I had to pause the video and let it buffer before I could watch it decently, although I blame this on my iMac and PlayStation both being wireless connected to my network. I'll hard wire them both later today and see if that helps.

hmm you have 802.11g? it should still stream alright, even a HD one should go ok.. just depends on network activity etc. yea give wired a try and see how you go!

I've got this working quite well but there's a few times videos wont play very well, start to stutter and jump, both the imac and ps3 are running wirelessley on my 20mb connection, is this just the way it is or is there anything I can do to make playback a little smoother????
imac is running leopard.

ive run into many problems with wireless even when just using SD videos. what are the bitrates of the movies that are stuttering? and what "video quality setting" are you using as identified in the "Transcoding" tab? (from the drop down box)

I know this is Apple TV but has anyone ever got the Application Rivet working on there Mac with the PS3. I have never been able to get it to work yet Medialink works fine.

PS3 Media Server not working any more

It's worked for months though sometimes off and on it won't connect. Now, it hasn't worked for about a week straight. I just set up an appletv. Could that be the problem?

it could possibly be it. have you forced the PS3 MS program to use a static IP and to use the default port number? they can be found in the General settings tab iirc (at work).

Hi all:

Just installed PS3MS on my new MBA.

It wasn't able to find the PS3 so I tried manually entering the IP and default port, but then it just hangs, searching but not connecting.

Any ideas?

hey, PS3MS itself hangs or something else?

i would first try to disable your local mac firewall and search again - are you connecting via wireless or wired for each device?

are you running the latest beta?

I was trying to run wireless on the MBA, but plugging it into the network seems to have worked. Not a huge deal by any means.

I had downgraded to the earlier release, but am going to go back to the beta now as well.

Thanks so much!

given the MBAs "newness" there may be a few compatibility issues with the wireless drivers or something of that nature, if wired is fine then thats great!

I used to use this on my PC and have been regularly using it on Mac since I changed over last year, never had any problems until recently. Now it's begun to occasionally end my 720p MKV files early (pause logo comes up on screen) which means I have to restart them. This wouldn't annoy me so much if there were a way to skip to where I was and continue watching (doesn't seem to work on MKV) but it's a real bugger when you're an hour in or something and have to start again.

Anybody else experienced similar problems?

I know this is old news, but it's a new world for me...

I keep getting unsupported data errors when trying to play a .mkv file via PS3MediaServer.

Any suggestions as to what I might be doing (or not doing)??

yes i get them a lot too, its because (generally) of the audio :(

can you inspect the movie and see what format it is for us?

I might be missing something with the question, but the movie is a .mkv file.

My understanding is that ps3mediaserver will transcode the file into something the PS3 can play.(?)

Unfortunately, that's not the case for me thus far...

I have a i7 2.2Ghz 15" MBP with 8GB ram and it still stutters while transcoding 1080P media to the PS3. Is there a fix for this? I tried it with my PC and it runs fine, I have a 100 based ethernet connection on both ends so I assume the only difference is in the CPU processing power
