If an individual can't already see for themselves that both sides copy each other, then there is no point in further discussing the topic with said individual.

Let those people be. The on topic conversation will happily go on ignoring them.

So back to topic:

Now that SD card support is gone, will you people size up? I'm thinking 64 GB is a happy place to be.

Except I don't have an adaptor and no need for one, don't even think I know anyone with one lol? Don't even remember last time I used a stick, pry have one laying around, kinda pointless now as even for my biz I have everything sync'd online/across computers. But yeah if you had that combo it would work.

I just threw that out there for those that absolutely feel they must have some type of external storage. What you described also fit. I wouldn't mess with custom roms unless I had an external backup.

Completely agree. A GPE version of the S6 may very well be the ideal Android smart phone. The problem with any devices that have 'stock' (or close to it as found on the Moto X) is there are always hardware compromises, especially with the camera. They never seem to have any industry leading hardware components. For all the grief I give Samsung, the cameras in their latest generations of phone appear to be every good (if not better) as those on the iPhones and it's been proven their displays are now the best. Put stock Android on the S6 and I'll quickly become a Samsung smartphone fan. :D

Unfortunately, probably as much chance of that happening as getting a version that runs iOS. ;)

Aye I don't know if I can give up sd card & removable battery AND go to touchwizz - that may be too many compromises

It feels like samsung thought (I have no proof of course) that GPE was diluting their brand, which is pretty humorous. I know they didnt sell many, but it was the most popular GPE device for sure. It makes me sad, because I feel the GS4 GE has aged extremely well, certainly moreso than the regular GS4.

It is now officially impossible to get (well I guess it has been for awhile now)
-stock android
-highest end hardware / display/camera/soc no compromises
like you said before, but the list keeps going
-removable battery
-sd card
-ir blaster

I have no idea what my next phone will be, I'm glad I'm happy for now.

The real shame is that hardware progression in phones has slowed to the point that obsolescence is moreso a function of software support, rather than really needing faster/better hardware. GS4 GPE will probably stop where it is at 5.0 or maybe 5.1, but as we will see from custom roms, the device will run great for some time to come I wager (as long as OS updates dont break the existing drivers - like they did with motox 2013 which still doesnt have 5.0 :( I was so close to buying that phone glad I passed). Stock Android doesnt really have the problem of OS updates slowing older devices down (IMO performance increases with updates), like apple suffers from to some extent (and skinned android).

The only upgrade I really want is camera and better screen in direct sunlight, but there are so many sacrifices to get it.

Exactly why I keep roms on the Micro, except for this one time as I was doing a full clean and got rid of stuff on the Micro I didn't need, deleting the zips in the process.... facepalm lol. Always keep a copy on the computer though. I used to use USB sticks, but with everything online now and sync'd can't recall the last time I used one in biz.

Like the S6, but no water proofing is pry my biggest issue, could put up with the non-removal battery and no micro. But love the water resistance on my S5, Sony looks like they'll be my only choice now. Taken vids/pics underwater, no worries on boat fishing and keep the phone out vs being sealed in a bag and in a cubby/container, parties by our pool and using phone for streaming no worries, going for long runs and being caught in the rain, or taking paddle boards out and a little storm rolls in or fall off. Wife had one of those nuclear bomb proof water cases for her iphone and I used to have to pry it apart with a knife and I lift lol, almost ripped a nail out one time.

I think there is a difference in saying both companies copy each other in certain features versus saying the S6 is a flat out copy of the iPhone 6. One is common sense, the other is just idiocy.

I used to carry around all my ROMS as nandroid backups on my microSD card, I just liked to play around with different ones. It was neat just loading up a completely different ROM at will. It was also nice when a ROM got fubared, which was quite often. I'd have hated to have to carry an adapter and usb stick.

Yeah an extreme situation, but that's the kind of flexibility a microSD card provides. More useful IMO though is the fact that I can store large amounts of video when I'm unable to upload to the cloud.

I'm with you. That's why there's little to no point in talking to anyone who says the S6 is a complete copy of the iPhone. Seriously, how in the heck anyone could ever get the two mixed up is beyond me. lol.

And personally, I think the S6 looks better than the iPhone 6. I've always disliked the latest iPhone look. The color options are also much nicer.

I'm not saying the s6 is a complete copy of the iPhone. But it does mimic certain features and their aim business wise is more similar to Apple.

No SD slot - Probably the issue that will affect me more in the longer-term. If you are an iPhone user, none of this will matter to you. The biggest workaround revolves with cloud storage (not for me) and simply NOT carrying all your media and save it onto another memory drive. Remove videos you hardly watch esp in HD and uninstall apps you rarely use. And remove large games you already beaten. Use a cleaner app to remove junk files. I use CM Booster or All-In-One Toolbox with certain apps white-listed. Videos and games are the biggest storage killers. I have a 16 gb daily driver with only 12 gb avail and I try to keep it below 85% capacity, so 32 gb is more than liveable. The most popular iPhones are 16 gb models because they are the cheapest. You get 32 gb here at least.

No removable battery - Not many people really do replace their battery after it degrades. One saving grace is unlike the HTC Ones since M7, is it's easier to manually remove the rear and replace the battery yourself. I figure it will be similar to iPhone 4 series/Nexus 4. With M9, it is practically mandatory to send it to a service center since you probably need the jaws of life to open that thing and might still damage it. Plus S6/S6e get wireless charging for less cord mess and fast charge to save charging time.

No water-resist - I would love water-resist since I live in a country with greater rainfall than Seattle. But since I never owned one with it, I likely won't miss a feature I never had. Put it in a ziplock bag. That's water-resist for you. They also have water-resist cases although you might lose some functionality if you got the S6 edge.

Had Samsung just kept using the faux leather plastic rear of the Note 4, two out of three or even all three features could have been retained. I just don't understand the infatuation with a double-sided glass design? Apple did it the first and the best but why bother revisiting the design? It is a material asking for alot of cosmetic abuse. This is one of the biggest red flags for the Sony Xperias.

If an S6 edge falls on the side because it is slippery, you are screwed. Cracked display. Samsung could have also made it thicker instead of only 7mm in case we need more grip to avoid accidental touches on the sides, avoid having a camera hump, and putting a larger battery. The obsession of glass rears and thinness doesn't make much sense to me. You lose practicality for looks and even the looks gets far worse over time. Nexus 4, anyone? The S6 edge can still be an ergonomic nightmare for many and has high SAR. I still want it because unlike LG, Samsung actually made software features for a curved display! We'll see next month...
