The S24U isn't perfect either. iPhone is still smoother when scrolling. But it's a lot better than the Pixel.
The smoother scrolling you are referring to has nothing to do with performance etc its just a scaled dampening effect Apple employs

For years android scrolling speed was unchecked and too damn fast for it's own good and many mistook this extra speed for stuttering etc

Please, for the love of God and all things good do NOT put Dynamic Island on a Beautiful Android screen. The irony of Android users using dynamic island is rich.

In order to cover up an ugly pill cut out eyesore Apple came up with the distracting idea of Dynamic island. You see our ugly pill cut out is actually a feature called Dynamic Island that doesn't actually do anything you couldn't already do before.

Since Samsung uses the same AI tech as Google with the tiny pin hole camera cut out there is no need for different sensors that Apple uses.

Dynamic Island is NOT a feature but a cover up of a physical eyesore that Apple couldn't get rid of.

Stuttering on the Pixel 8? Where is this Stuttering???

I will criticize any company and Google is often easy prey but I have never seen the Pixel UI Stutter ever, and I am talking since 7 Pro.

Chrome stuttering has been a problem but the UI itself has been extremely smooth.

The s24 series is definitely faster but the UI on each is smooth and refined. Come on people.

I use the far more lean & mean Duckduckgo browser and Nova launcher on my Android phones.

Pixel 8 Pro UI was sluggish / stuttered when scrolling in apps and web browsing comparatively when sitting side by side with my S23+ hitting the same things. Believe me, I really wanted to hang onto the Pixel. Had it for more than two weeks and returned it (grudgingly since I essentially "stole it" at $325 discount). I did "steal the S23+ for closer to $425 discount hehe

I had hoped Samsung would offer high trade-in $$$ for Pixel 8 Pro and they were $300 less than S23+ at $650!

S24+ (at full QHD 3120x1440 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~513 ppi density)) is even smoother/faster than S23+ (1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~393 ppi density)) and the battery life on 1st charge exeeded anything I've gotten on S23+

I have the app disabled at the moment 😂. That's the beauty of it and Android, choice. I saw Floss' unboxing and wanted to try the app. I only use it for notifications for a few apps- music, calls, messages, email, office VOIP app. It doesn't stay enabled unless specific notifications arrive and goes away once I tap on it. So as of now my screen is pill and DI free.

I didn't see any UI stuttering, it happened within apps such as Reddit and Play Store, occasionally internet browsing, Google news feed.

I'll put whatever the fack I want on my 2000$ phone lol I like the music controller, and the notifications like timers. Besides, it disappears in landscape so it's not that intrusive. Like harthag wrote, you can customize it and make it smaller and thinner than the one on the iphone.

Been using it for months with no issues.

I never said what you can put on your phone?

It just seems if you are going to buy the ultimate Android phone. The only one that I may add doesn't copy iPhone design (assuming s24 ultra) in hardware then why would you copy a feature that was specifically designed for the iPhone because of an aesthetic flaw?

If I liked dynamic island I would spend my 2k on a 15 Pro Max. But that is me. You are you and if you like dynamic island copy app then go for it.

My post was not to offend you but point out the irony of such an applicant. Obviously it is immensely popular so my opinion is probably in the minority.

We all have different objectives, experiences and expectations. I run relatively minimal apps (filtered with Google Advanced Protection Program which limits what apps can be installed to some extent), no digital assistant or cloud-based AI enhancements, etc.

Google hosing their own phones with a munged Play Store update for a 2nd time in <12 months is a 'lil cringey for me ;)

Apple and Samsung do not muck things to such an extent as of late, imo

No worries! I wasn't offended and didn't mean to offend you either! Sorry if it came out that way.

I definitely get what you're saying though. I probably am in the minority who kind of likes it too. Idk, I'll probably get tired of it at some point and go back to the pinch hole again. I like having options!

Interesting reading the million replies in that post. All over the board, some say stick with the Pixel 8 Pro, others say no the S24U is better, others say they're both good, some say no get an iPhone 15 PM. That thread is a good read.

Well, people can be a hot mess when it comes to something like phones. They are expensive and emotional purchases. People's daily lives and identity are tied to their phones and sometimes objectivity and truth can make way for passion and strong opinion.

That being said, one of my biggest issues with OneUI is a consistent UI layout. It is much like Windows with legacy menus and control panel mixed with modern UI elements. Just throw it away and adopt Googles simple Menu layout. Done. Looks better and works better. I hate the duplicate apps.

But overall OneUI isn't a stuttering mess anymore. A lot of cool features are baked into the OS. The OS is generally reliable and stable. I get so much storage that the apps aren't as much an issue and I can manage their background usage by putting unused apps permanently to sleep, uninstalling others and disabling the rest. It is not an ideal situation but it gets the job done without using a PC or root.

The hardware on Samsung devices is just a lot better than the competition with some exceptions. I think that the Pixel 8 Pro is a fine alternative to the s24 ultra for a lot less money. It is a good looking phone, it has a ton of really well done AI features, it has one of the best camera systems on the market, it has one of the best screens, it is just an overall joy to use.

However even with Googles better software I still think the s24 ultra is a better phone than the P8P but a lot of that is subjective and based on my preferences. So everyone is going to have their own take.

If I take my emotions aside as much as I can and look at the hardware and software overall including updates Samsung is a better choice but it is going to cost you. If it is worth it depends on what you prefer. If cameras are the most important thing then I would lean Pixel 8 Pro. If you lean towards speed then s24 ultra, etc.

Anyone going to use a tempered glass screen protector on the s24 ultra?
Right now I'm using samsungs anti reflective screen protector (film) but I'm just waiting until some company releases a decent tempered glass anti reflective one. Babying the phone like crazy lol had cracked my s23 ultra screen while having a tpu film.

Heard that the cheaper ones completely negate the anti reflective screen so those are a no go for me!

The stuttering is what made me return the galaxy s23 (Exynos version, I live in Europe) and the pixel 7, I blame poor performance of the exynos (the tensor is an exynos in disguise) or lack of optimisation, I won't be burned again.

I'm curious what do you meant by stuttering? I've noticed one app specifically and only and ONLY when playing a game there is a stutter but in nothing else. And it's ever so slightly when it does occur. I attribute this only to the app in which it occurs.
I'm in Europe too and will not but another Exonys phone unless they improve a lot.
It seems like the Pixel 10 next year will get a chip made by TMSC.
You REALLY need to look at gsmarena.com a d look at the performance ratings and comparisons. You'd be VERY surprised.

I think one youtuber put it to the test recently yer comparing two different models of S23 vs S24, which doesn't make any sense.

My Pixel 8 Pro sold on Swappa this morning for $680 which I didn't expect, after fees and shipping more like $620. Still better than the $450 Samsung would've given me!

I returned the Watch 6 Classic that I ordered with the phone, re-ordered the 47mm size instead and took advantage of $200 trade in for my AW6, which is generous (Best Buy offers $70).

My only remaining Apple devices are the 15PM and AirPods Pro 2. The S24+ may finally sway me completely away from Apple for the foreseeable future. I'm really enjoying the phone and the customization options. I stopped iMessage etc cold turkey a week ago and don't care about any media issues. Not my problem, iPhone folks can deal with it.

My issue with ringers and notifications playing over both Bluetooth and phone speaker while earbuds are connected persisted when I did a factory reset of the phone + set up as new. It occured on the P8P and S24+ until I installed Good Lock and Samsung Sound Assistant on the S24+. Seems to be an Android quirk (a big one) thankfully addressed by GL.

The kitchen sink approach Samsung takes is only a bit of a headache on initial set up / accounts / settings. Once done, phone is a champ and I appreciate all of the options. Also, DynamicSpot app is awesome, all of my apps pop up Dynamic Island style which is great for notifications. The funny part is it fades away and just the tiny pinhole remains, unlike the eyesore DI on the iPhone.
Hmm
Using Beats Fit Pro's , preclviuualy paired TK my 13 mini then 12 mini and finally to my S23 before I sold them worked without issue on either of those phones (all where single primary devices when owned).

Since you're using AirPods Pro's which are completely meant for iPhones I say swap them out with Jabra 10 Active's or Galaxy Buds 2 Pro!

yeah I got both the samsung film and the ESR tempered glass, went with the ESR first because it's SUCH an easy install and I've used tempered on all my iphones.

hmmm I dunno. I feel like I'm struggling with the fingerprint reader so I may take it off, make sure it works ok without and then try the samsung

I got one off Amazon. AACL. Easy install. Fits perfectly but has same reflective surface as the s24 plus? Sort of defeats the AR coating.

So I am on the fence too. I just really hate any type of scratches on the screen. I am thinking maybe just go bare and then if any micro scratches appear then I can use a screen protector and it should fill in the micro scratch. But if I dropped screen down on a rock which I have done I doubt anything but a tempered glass screen protector would help. So it is always a gamble.
