I have to say, the more I use the S24U ...the more I am impressed with it.
this is the best Android phone i have ever had. Camera is excellent and the overall speed of the device it amazing. Throw in the AI features and unrivaled functionality of the phones. it is a workhouse and BEAST of a phone.

Dex is a game changer when needed as well.
My 2 suggestions to Samsung is add a facial recognition software that is similar to FaceID.
The edges are too sharp and need to be rounded off.
Facial recognition is 💯 it’s only drawback for me personally. Apples never fails for me but the Samsung fingerprint sometimes does and other times it’s just not as convenient

I find Apple's facial recognition a drawback and inconvenient.

Sometimes I'm not at an angle nor wish to be to clance at information on the lock screen.
Sometimes people are nosey (or mistake your iPhone for theirs) and pick it up staring at it trying to lock it. Now forcing you to enter your device unlock password around people you'd rather NOT even give any remote chance of knowing the unlock password: Co-workers, manager, just strangers or people too nosey for their own business and will say anything to destroy relationships as fast as they can.

Craig F found that out during the iPhone X's launch on stage just how inconvenient Face-ID can be.

Disagree wholeheartedly, FaceID is one of the features that keep me using an iPhone. IMHO it is the best biometric way to unlock your phone. I wish Google had kept Face Unlock from the Pixel 4XL to todays pixel models.

Then the iPhone X launch was in 2017.....this is 2024...things have evolved and gotten better.

Then you know you can just turn FaceID off? problem solved for you....

Agree 100%. Been using my 15PM much more lately and FaceID is just so convenient. The only time it doesn't work is at night when I have my CPAP mask on in bed lol

If I had to choose between a FaceID solution or fingerprint I would still choose fingerprint. For me it works perfectly and is fast. Fingerprint works when the phone lies on a table and where FaceID never would have been able to unlock for example. But I wouldn't mind a good face unlock-solution on Android though.

We're not talking about turning it off - that's a cop-out to the rebuttal.

Fact is leave your iPhone anywhere physically available for others to pick up and 3x boom its not password/pin entry. Even randomly ... just like any other phones biometrics. I see no reason for the HUGE bump to be there IF the camera has nothing to do with facial recognition by the hardware.

I get it you love it. Yet for payments and for unlocking the animation is needlessly slow and over dramatic - with no way for the end user to disable or speed up the animiation. like you said in 2024, not 2018 why the over dramatica presentation in animations, lets leave that to the drag queens for presentation, not our electronic devices. (PS: this is not meant to be a dig at, its just to highly how over the top drama can be and not everywhere its needed).

no turning it off is a choice...... then just use the pin. If FaceID is not to your liking...you can turn it off.

My experiences with FacerID is the it works just as fast or faster than FPS for unlocking my phone or for unlocking applications. The drawback to facial recognition software is (as others have stated) is when the phone is sitting on a flat surface. Using a FPS is easier if you want to unlock your phone while it is sitting on a flat surface.
But then what are you going to do? Pick it up...after unlocking it with the FPS? Might as well use FaceID in that instance.

Then there was no rebuttal....you just seemed to be a little over dramatic citing back to 2017 and the iPhone X

I don't know about others but I have not had too many issues with this phone and I still enjoy it as much as I first got it. The initial new wow factor has gone but as a tool in every day use it has been a very good experience and probably the best I have had using a Samsung phone in a long while. OneUI still has a lot of things I wish they would update, get rid of or change. That being said it is also the best experience I have ever had on OneUI and a lot of that has to do with Google's collaboration with Samsung. The S24 wouldn't be half the phone it is without Google's touch. It is like a really good hybrid of OneUI and Pixel UI.

AI stuff for some things is helpful and good but mostly over hyped and under utilized. So AI is not all that important to me other than speeding up processes, extending battery life while optimizing performance. I don't mind Gemini search and some of the photo editing tools. Beyond that it is not really that useful and has a lot pf privacy implications the more AI is integrated into the OS.

In other words I don't mind a relatively dumb AI but anything more than that I am not so convinced of the usefulness and am more concerned of potential privacy and security implications. So for now I am happy with everything.

We will see how things progress.

At the end of the day I just really enjoy the s24 Ultra. I have not touched my Pixel 8 Pro at all.... For me to ignore another phone is a huge deal, specially one I liked as much as the P8P.

If Google and Samsung continue to meld Pixel and OneUI with more similar features and animations I will likely, for the first time be a single phone user. I may sell my P8p and trade in my s24 Ultra for the s25 ultra and just have one phone. It would be new for me but if Samsung keeps giving good software and hardware I don't see a need for anything else.

Of course, I may just keep what I have a couple years and then trade and sell. This phone is as good as my iPhone 13 Pro Max which was my favorite phone I ever owned. Who knows, Apple may lose the top spot as time goes on but for now I have very fond memories of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

I'm sure most people here know about this, but it creeped me out last night and this morning. Last night I asked my wife if she needed anything from Walgreens. When I got into my car and started driving I see Walgreens pop up as an option on my Android Auto Google maps screen. I thought it was "interesting" so I started talking to myself on the way home stating I think I'll go to Microcenter. Said the same thing a few times this morning as I was getting into my car. Sure enough, Microcenter appears right under my office as an option on maps.

Is there any way to turn off this always listening function without completely disabling voice match or important parts of Assistant / Gemini? I know it always listens for certain key words, but this is beyond just key words. I will probably just leave it on as-is, but I found this to be a bit off-putting today.

Although I do not have a Samsung phone I often suffer from this as well and I find it very creepy as it happens on my pixel in the browser when I see ads.
Interested to see Apple's implementation of the new AI in iOS18. I don't recall seeing this behavior when I had my iPhone(s), but maybe I just didn't notice.

I noticed it on my IPhone SE 3 when I had it so it's not just on the Android side of things.

I am nervous where all this AI stuff is heading, maybe I am getting too old for all of this and stuck in my ways.

Yes, I was also reading a bit and it is the same with iOS in order to "optimize" user experience and the like. Regardless, yes, it is unsettling.

I am in the process of installing and testing grapheneos on a spare pixel I have.
If I can do everything I would normally want from my phone then that could be my daily driver.

That should stop all of my concerns about all the data collection that's going on but it's early days.

Interested actually, had the s23fe but it was top heavy, weird feeling and got hot pretty quickly. That phone literally tanked, no one wants them.

Hoping for a improvement.

Maybe if you have extra money just top up and go for the base model S24 and avoid potential pitfalls that you mentioned.

Nice, hope it works for you. I've looked into GrapheneOS but am using the S24 as my only device. I would be toast if my phone was also...toast in case I brick it.

I am having an uneducated Samsung related question and don't take it as a shade because I am seriously considering another device later this year (coming from years of iPhones) and I was looking at the Samsung Galaxy24 Ultra at a store yesterday and I was kind of "underwhelmed" by the camera? I am not sure if it was the lighting of the store but everything looked too pale or "cold"? like the colours of the photos didnt pop and even before taking the photo, it looked a little "grainy" compared to the otherwise amazingly looking display.
