If Jeremy can describe the Bugatti as a Concorde, why didn't James fly a Concorde to even it up :D
I think that with James at the wheel there's a good chance they wouldn't made it is far as Lille, but would've be great TV.

Just imagine having driven that, everything else for the rest of your life will SUCK.

Like JC and having to drive his Ford GT? Lol.. :)

Amazing. Want one so much. LUUUUSSST!

Whew! finally got the latest episode....

I want to see the Stig do a lap in the Veyron, but that is about as likely as a, uh, very unlikely thing, given how few Veyrons actually exist. Trying to rent one to do a hot lap is probably like looking for Atlantis.

Oh, and these "races" are getting a tad lame since the outcome is not actually ever in doubt. Of course it would be bad PR for a car company's latest masterpiece to be beaten by Captain Slow, and thus unlikely. They need to make Clarkson thrash about on some public transportation system while the Hamster and May blast to victory in the latest hyper-exotic...now that would be funny. But I suspect that Clarkson (like myself) is a very bad loser.

A more fair race would have been the Veyron vs an English Electric Lightning. :D

Amazing f****** car though. Amazing.

And Clarkson may be right - it will probably be a long time before car with superior capabilities comes along.

Word on the street is that the Ultima boys are more than a little miffed about the Bugatti stealing their 0-150-0 time, and rumour has it they're about to unleash a version that'll destroy the Bugatti's time ;)

J.C. talks crap though... ;) I suspect that it won't be all that long before another car truly supercedes it, take a look at the 288 GTO then a couple of years later came the 959, a couple of years later we had the F40, a couple of years later the XJ220 a couple of years later the EB 110 GT/SS, a couple of years later the F1/F50 a couple of years later the Enzo a couple of years later the Veyron. Swings and roundabouts my friend. ;)

Just building a car to beat numbers I don't think would be that hard, but will this Ultima come anywhere close to doing it with the ease and luxury of the Bugatti?

I think this'll depend on how many times VW can sell the same car with different badges.
Did Porsche or Ferrari lose money making those cars? They may have on some of them but they put some of that engineering back into subsequent road and race cars, what's VW going to do with Bugatti? They'll need to sell a bucket load of the next, smaller Bugatti to make this expensive marketing exerrcise worthwhile and everyone's going to know that that car is (probably) going to be an Audi/Lambo badge engineered bastard.

I like the Veyron, moreso than I did before it was on TG, but it's not really a real car that'll ever be properly used.

Will someone else come along to 'beat' it? Maybe the car to beat it will be an easy to drive, fun, safe, luxury car that'll only do 0-60mph in 6sec. and top out at 100mph......but with zero emissions and for £30k.

The Veryon is just awesome but for me the Mac F1 still holds the crown. The design is nothing short of brilliant, it will carry 3 people + luggage and its nearly all pre-preg carbon fiber, which I love. The fact is the Veryon is overweight, it may have 1001 Hp but it weighs 1995kg giving a figure of 0.501 hp/kg where as the F1 only has 627hp it weighs a minimalist 1140kg giving a figure of 0.550 hp/kg. Another thing I love about the F1 is that all 627 hp are produced naturally by that brilliant engine where as the Veryon has to be force fed by 4 turbos to make its power. The Veryon reminds me a lot of the EB110

I think your bang on! it's a PR car, make a very expensive fastest car in the world to re-launch a name that's kind of been lost, now that it's under new management.. make it into a new european luxury or sports car range. Probably luxury as they won't want to compete with Porche ;)

But... when since should a supercar be easy to use and luxurious? ;) I'd bet any amount of money that the Ultima will be more engaging and emotive to drive. ;)

I agree with you, still not sure about it's looks though. hmmmmm. Great '20's interior though.

Damn right... ;) the same goes for the Enzo's naturally aspirated V12 :) which incredibly hits 800PS in the FXX.

To paraphrase Gordon Murray (one of the men responsible for the F1's V12) if you have to go forced induction, then supercharger is a damn sight better than a turbocharger. ;) but a properly developed naturally aspirated is the best of all. :D

It's not the car this will be used as luxurious!!! its the name!!! compete with Mercedes and BMW
