Depends on how you use your device.

In portrait you’ll see more content (IE more macrumor threads on screen at once) on the X vs a Plus. Because it’s a taller screen.

In landscape you’ll see more using the same example of web browsing as above, on the Plus. Because it’s a wider screen.

They can’t directly be compared though, because one is 18:9 aspect ratio and the other is 16:9 aspect ratio.

iPhone 8 Plus offers you bigger everything including bezels lool

For those of us that want a taller screen than the 7, less bezels, smaller body than a Plus, no home button, and an annoying notch. The iPhone X is the phone we've been waiting for!

Fixed.

It's not hard to swipe up, no need for a home button and the fat forehead and chin bezel. I'd take the notch over all three of those things.

And taller screen when you watch TV shows in landscape on the commute to and from work means Bigger screen. Oh yeah and its OLED/HDR if you aint used an S8 you don't know what you've been missing!

Iphone x is the upgrade for the 4.7” iphone and NOT for the plus
Even apple compared it to the 4.7” one

Next year we will get the updated plus version with the edge to edge 6.4”

Meh. You make it sound like bezels stole your lunch money. What exactly is it with people and their hatred of bezels. It’s like the people that look at the side of a TV to see how thin it is at Best Buy. No understand.

Currently have HDR on my iPhone 8. Haven’t used HDR once. I use HDR daily on my PS4, where it’s truly needed and not a spec checkbox. OLED is great.

Not sure what you’re saying about a “bigger screen for videos”. You’ll be watching a video with a notch on the side.

There is going to be a ton of buyers remorse from a lot of the 8/8 Plus owners when the X launches because they weren't patient. They will probably say something along the lines of "TouchID is way better/faster/easier/some other excuse reasoning" meanwhile they are drooling over the X. Check out eBay/Craigslist when the X launches for everyone selling used 8/8 Pluses.

It's wasted space. You don't carry a TV around with you all the time.

It's pretty obvious you are trying to justify your iPhone 8 purchase but I foresee a lot of buyers remorse as soon as the X launches.

All I see are people making excuses for poor design.

Wasted space? Did you mean: Space for a home button? Doesn’t seem like a waste to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll gladly take a refined design....but not at the expense of the core experience of the device. Apple traded the home button for the notch. To this point, the only positive outlook on the notch has been that it’s a good marketing tool to separate Apple from the rest. Form over function at its best.

I see a lot of people spending $1000 on a disjointed device only to pony it up on EBay shortly after.

And the only drooling here is from the mouths of the X’s design team.

^Precisely. I'm upgrading from a iPhone 6S to the iPhone X couldn't be happier.

The Plus and the X essentially have the same amount of space, but the X makes better use of the space. It's an advantage in 2017 and will be in 2018 with the X Plus.

I am excited for the X. I am a plus user, however I have always preferred smaller phones. When I was upgrading from the 5 to the 6 era of phones, I chose the plus because of the battery and camera. The X brings the overall size down but has a bigger battery and the best camera of the iPhones. I just hope I can get used to the thinner display.

I have a feeling the higher resolution edge to edge OLED will become more of a factor than the small decrease in width. Unless you specifically use your Plus in landscape mode a lot. I never do personally.

The notch and lack of home button on the X were a deliberate choice by Apple. They could have put a virtual home button like Samsung did but they wanted to differentiate the X from the S8.

Also for portrait web browsing the X will be better than the Plus.

I have used an iPhone 6 (while my plus was being repaired) and found the keys a bit small, as I have gotten used to it over the past 3 years. It's amazing that I used to think the original iPhone was big. I used the original - 5 without issue, so I am sure I could get used to a smaller keyboard again. But do I want to?

It may all hinge on how the keyboard operates on the X (as it is slightly wider than the 6).

The main thing is with the X you will get more usable screen real-estate in normal usage with a more pocketable device.

For example I use a 5.2" screen phone at the moment. My wife uses a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I fine her phone too big.

Now I could get s Samsung Galaxy S8 that has a 5.8" screen but is only 3mm taller than my current phone whereas the Note 3 is 6mm taller.

It makes a difference when it come to fitting the phone in your pocket.

Based on the points people have made, if they truely care about screen real estate, they would be viewing things like web browsing in portrait anyways. The vast majority of content on a phone is meant to be viewed/scrolled from the top to bottom. Portrait is the most efficient viewing method for this. The iPhone X gives more real estate than a Plus in this regard.

For the most part true, but there are websites that have issues in portrait and work better in landscape. Tends to be the sites that have a lot of tabs at the top. Trying to tap on them is a PITA.

It’s not nearly the same size as the Plus. If you compare it with the 5 inch Pixel 2 on Phonearena you will find it has the exact same width whilst being slightly taller. It’s more like 5.1 or 5.2 but with lesser width thanks to the aspect ratio.

I have the note 8 (until I sell it) and the 7 plus and there isn’t much difference when viewing web pages. The major difference I noticed was when viewing videos. The note 8 has significantly more real estate. I think o will wait until the iPhone X plus is available and get the 8 plus. Still deciding but will make up my mind by the 27th.
