Definitely a new model on the way it’s a big part of Apple now and they can’t sit on old models others will out manoeuvre them.

As for the much mentioned microLED for next year I don’t see that. microLED is easy to make in larger sizes but harder the smaller you make the pixels. So far TVs have been mass produced at any size yet let alone high resolution small implementations. It’s actually easier to make a 4K wall TV than a 4K 65” TV a watch is way off those plans.

Great tech when it gets to market but not there yet.

Folks keep speculating that sleep tracking will be a new feature for the Series 5 should it occur. Well, do you know that the measurement of Blood Oxygen levels are one of the "go to" methods of tracking your sleep levels? Excellent indicator of sleep apnea, and how your body is repairing itself. I would perhaps think that Apple is aware of this, and the inclusion of an SPo2 sensor would totally elevate the AWS5 to a level above the others in the field.

MicroLed isn’t ready for mass production. There isn’t any major suppliers that probably could even meet what Apple would need anyways, let alone any other tech company. The only micro LED display that I saw, was at the electronica expo show, (Samsung displayed one of their TVs). The technology that it will offer will be a wider color gamut/higher brightness/improve battery life, [because it draws significantly less power under V.s. OLED]. Undoubtedly the Apple Watch will probably be one of the first products to see MicroLED, followed by the iPhone.

The ceramic Apple Watch will probably run $1,299. I upgrade every year and rotate from the Hermes and Ceramic. I think the typical yearly upgrades won’t spend anywhere near that kind of money though.

I’m thinking of it more like a watch. I don’t want a thin watch but that’s me. I also wish they offered higher end materials for the Hermes version. I wish they sold it more like a time piece, but I realize that’s probably not going to happen lol.

I don’t know what you use your watch for, but I think it’s very fast. I never use Siri so maybe that’s where faster could come into play. Id prefer longer battery than a faster chip. Of course faster over time, but I’d settle for 18 months instead of a refresh that adds nothing.

I’m more disappointed in Watch os6. Just not a lot there that excites me.
I don’t think the average person drops $1k+ a year on smartwatches though.

Sure, the watch crowd could and would drop $2-3,000 on higher end watches but by all accounts the Hermes is not a volume seller and the Edition models were a failure, so I don’t see Apple going too crazy in regards to the highend.

Except that an SpO2 sensor would require (in the US) FDA approval. No such leaks have been heard. So I’m suspecting either no new sensors, which is disappointing, or sleep tracking not based on blood oxygen levels.

More like, the average consumer doesn’t even drop $250 on a smart watch a year. Why not? Because they typically really all do the same thing, they’re just certain advantages like having a larger display/additional waterproofing/louder speaker, etc. The only reason the consumer would upgrade their smart watch, is probably if there was significant battery improvements, major health additions, or larger displays like the Series 4 offered.

Garmin has had the SpO2 sensor on their fenix 5X plus, and is bringing it out on most of the fenix line with the fenix 6. I don't think they've had the FDA approval, but I could be wrong, they haven't said anything about it. Oh well, we'll see in about another 10 days or so, right?

Nothing is stopping Apple from throwing a new processor into the Apple Watch, give it a few new colours and calling it the series 5.

That said, my series 2 looks like it will get watchOS 6 (how it will run is another matter altogether though), so if there is no new upgrade, this will be the perfect excuse for me to hang on to my watch for another year...

I wonder how much of the S4 can be changed before a new ECG approval or certification from the FDA is required. This could slow down the update cycle.

We still haven't seen any real details leak, is this is a first?

The first Gen Watch didn’t have any leaks either, aside from a ‘CAD render’, but in fairness, that was just the first GEN Apple Watch at the time.

That’s basically what Apple did with the Series 2. It was essentially the original watch with a faster processor, brighter screen, and better gaskets.
Series 2 was a great update : GPS, dual core processor, waterproof, brighter screen ...

That's what would move me, but apparently, they'd need FDA approval for that, and there's been no submission. I had a dream last night about them introducing "Solar Glass", but I think that was wishful thinking combining the Garmin Fenix 6X Solar, and the Apple watch.. It would be nice though...

Apple will definitely be releasing a Series 5 - even if its just a slight spec bump. There where rumors that they are going to continue selling the Series 3 and discontinuing the Series 4, which would fall in line with what they did when the Series 3 was launched.

My guess is we will see a Series 5 with improved battery and speed boost. It will also launch with Titanium and Ceramic models. Hopefully Apple will launch Stainless Steel models without Cellular this year!

Here is what I think starting pricing will be like this year. Add $100 for Cellular models except the Titanium and Ceramic models which will probably only come with GPS and Cellular.

38mm Aluminium Series 3 - $199
42mm Aluminium Series 3 - $249

40mm Aluminium Series 5 - $399
44mm Aluminium Series 5 - $429

40mm Stainless Series 5 - $599
44mm Stainless Series 5 - $649

40mm Ceramic Series 5 Edition - $1199 GPS + Cellular Only
44mm Ceramic Series 5 Edition - $1249 GPS + Cellular Only

40mm Titanium Series 5 Edition - $1499 GPS + Cellular Only
44mm Titanium Series 5 Edition - $1549 GPS + Cellular Only

It would be nice to get some cool new watch faces this year. I’ve used the same one for 3 years due to the choice being rather dull. A Series 5 aluminium in silver is my top choice.

I got the Series 4 Space Gray Aluminum from last year - but the aluminum did not hold up as well as I thought it would. Also the constant fear of scratching the Ion-X display is enough for me to go back to Stainless with the Sapphire Display.

Updated - do you guys think the Titanium would be at $1500?
