Keeping 64GB as the base option in a flagship phone is such a cheap and transparent move. They know most people that aim for that expensive and powerful device is going to be unhappy with 64Gb so they'll all move to the next model up. Its just another Apple cash grab. It costs them such an insignificant amount to go from 64Gb to 128Gb, but theyre Apple so they go after every last penny.

I was hoping the 256GB was going to be the base. It would have been some incentive for me to upgrade my 7 256GB.

Always bought a 64gb and never regretted it. 34.46gb free on my XS Max 64gb. Dont take or store video; maybe 200ish photos and 170 apps. Plenty of space on 64gb
So you buy a $1k iPhone 11 Pro that claims to have "The highest‑quality video in any smartphone", but you should not take videos because it'll take up the space?

Because you know the phone does nothing but video  I never once implied my situation is everyone's and spoke for my own experience.

But thank you for being so concerned about how I spend my own money

Further:

1) it's a self-employed business expense monthly
2) I make the monthly $45 payment in a typical month under 1 hour of work. Drop in the bucket for the benefits better and better phone has overall when time is literally money.
3) Related to 2), I run my business from it. I use my phone more than my laptop and do every email I do from it; and own no other extra tech I upgrade like a watch or ipad. It pays for itself many many times over; and again, time saved is literally money.
4) If battery life is advertised that is a worthwhile upgrade on its own regardless of camera. Never bought a phone for camera upgrades.
5) Incidentals- faster Face ID and wider angles, little better audio, little better display, little faster.

Don't understand why people are so outraged. Apple has always done this..

Remember 16gb iPhone 6s?

More disappointed than outraged. It's standard Apple squeezing out every ounce of profit margin.

They got the camera features and bigger battery right. They know people will still buy it regardless, but if they had done 128gb base courtesy on their now "Pro" phones, it probably would've been enough to shut up all the techies. When Samsung starts at 256gb base, 8gb ram and compare it to Apple pulling off this trash tactic, you can't help but feel cheated.

It costs literally cents to go from 64 to 128. Go trade in your high storage iPhone and see if you'll get much more money for it (you won't).

With an iCloud account and Photos in the cloud, there's really no need for anything larger in my book. But 64GB of memory on a $1099 device is still absolutely ridiculous.

Agreed. IMO the base 64g serves to promote iCloud use. I suppose one could also make an argument that it allows a disingenuous entry price. At $1099 64g is insulting.

I could easily get by 64g with my photos/videos in iCloud as I stream all my music. However, I do understand the need many have to keep their media on their device at all times. :apple:

Samsung also has to give the farm away to sell a few million of their high end phones. How many promos, free Galaxy Buds, hundreds off the device do they have already?

You can get a S10+ for nearly half price already a few months after launch. There is just no tens of millions demand for Samsung's high end devices

Apple surely doesnt have that issue.

Yep. I remember it well. It's my main phone!

App ofloading saves me, and during betas I need to sync regularly to my laptop to clear out the logs. I don't use it as a music player and my photos are offloaded first to the cloud then to my laptop and other storage. I survive with it. Just.

I currently have 256gb storage and only 6gb left. I literally keep everything on my phone. I've been thinking about switching to the 64gb since I upgrade every year and 1 year of iCloud is $36 which is cheaper than the upgrade to 256gb. If I wasn't upgrading every year, then I think the 256gb would make more since, especially when you almost make your money back in trade-in or sale.

Not a lot, which is also why I think they have a ton of unused 64GB chips lying around that Tim is trying to get rid of.

Disagree. Maybe on this SITE of tech nerds the 256 and 512 are the majority, but the average consumer (soccer mom grandma etc) out there I would guess the 64 was close to or outsold both the other 2 capacities; especially on the higher end iphones that are already expensive into 4 figures in the 64 variant. On the XR or older devices maybe not.

thanks for sharing all the reasons why a company can keep their hands in your pocket.

Tim is money hungry . The base model for the iPhone 11 is 128 and the pro 64
