Personally for me should be like this for pro versions
256gb base $999
512gb extreme storage model $1199
1tb extreme hardcore model $1399

Would be nice but Apple would lose serious profit from upselling. But i think we'll see future 1 TB iPhones in the next 1 - 3 years. Usually they offer the next higher storage capacity on iPads first.

For example, you could get the iPad with 128 when the iPhone had 64 as the maximum. (iPhone 5 / iPad 4) When you had 128 GB on iPhone, iPad had 256 GB. (iPhone 6s / 1st gen iPad Pro) When the iPhone had 256, iPad had 512. (iPhone 7, iPad Pro 2nd gen). Now we have 512 GB on iPhone (iPhone 11 Pro) and the iPad already has 1 TB. (iPad Pro 3rd gen)

It's coming... and it will be very very expensive.

i don't think it is a 'brilliant' marketing move like people are claiming in here. it's leaving so many people with a sour taste in their mouths. we're talking about it here, reddit was on fire the last two days over it, same with other corners of the internet.

people are annoyed AF with it. Will the average consumer care? no, prob not, why? because most of them are going to purchase the base 11, like they did with the XR and i'd even be ok with 64gb for that phone. It's an "entry" phone.

But a $1000 "PRO" advertised phone with 64gb???? That's just ********, and it does piss everyone in that segment off. Same with their "pro" laptops starting at 128gb. No one buys that model. I just got a new macbook pro, opted for the 256gb which is still almost not enough for me and i'm honestly considering this to be the last 'prop' model i buy from apple. I'm tired of being nickel and dim'd for basic **** you are supposed to get with a 'pro' computer.

This is really stupid in my opinion. I don’t get the reason for keeping the base storage at 64gb for a “pro” version. Personally it doesn’t really effect me, I have 256gb on my 8 Plus but am using 32.5gb.
It's a strategy to get people to buy higher storage model.

The question is what are you gonna do about it? They will continue to do this.

Why is it a problem to just purchase the storage that you need? You want it cheaper? Well Apple is in the business of making money. Just like any other company. They are not a non-profit or a charity.

I know it's hard for some to believe, but 64GB is plenty for a lot of people. People thinking the storage will fill up quicker because of the upgraded camera and video recording. It doesn't. I'm sure eventually they'll increase the base storage, or maybe they won't.

But we all know Apple operates in their own lane, and yet we are all still here...

Exactly I got jumped on for saying 64gb is more than enough for me; always has been since 64gb was the base.

Buh it haz new cameraz!!! It's the same damn 4k 60fps format its been; nothing new or novel format-wise that takes more space this year. The same 12mp rear shooters takes no more space than before. Only the front camera is 12mp vs 7mp of old. And that wont take GB more of space unless you take 5,000 selfies.

Sad times we live in that people cannot mind their own business; on a bum argument at that.

I guess I'm in the minority. On my 64 GB XS Max, I have 40 GB free. I have 101 apps downloaded. I don't store any photos or videos on my iPhone. (All neatly organized in Dropbox.) I stream all my music. I don't game.

For those of you that take alot of photos and videos, do you run into any issues with 64gb? I thought I would have a ton of my storage being used by mine, but turns out its all in the cloud I guess, because my storage was very low. I think I might go 64gb as I didn't really want to upgrade this year anyways, so saving any money would be great. I just want the upgraded camera system.

I agree indeed. Sad times when there's so many people willing to defend corporate greed. And that is all this is, pure greed on Apple's part.

Remind me why you are on n Apple-based forum again

Troll on though.

How is this good for the brand in the future? So many people are annoyed by this, how long can they continue to get away with it? Eventually it will come to a point where they won't. The question really isn't will they, it's when.

They need a low entry level price point for marketing purposes which the 64GB model serves.
Next year the updated smaller (SE) phone will be the entry level model with feature parity with the flagships. That will have the low entry level storage unit option and I assume the larger models will all start at 128GB.
With this year’s lacklustre update, Apple had no motivation to shake things up.

I think it's awesome that Apple gives consumers the choice to purchase a 64 GB model instead of paying extra for 128 or 256 GB. Queue up the "but I should get it for free" posts :p

The $999 base should at the very least have 128 instead of 64. They would have pushed a good amount of users to get the Pro, but I think Apple’s actions kinda show they acknowledge the 11 will move more units than the Pro, and they don’t plan to change that and doubling down on the spending behavior shown with the XR vs the XS.

I’m glad they stuck with 64GB as the entry level storage.

Keeps the base price down for those that don’t need all that storage while allowing those who need more storage to upgrade as necessary.

That didn't take long for the I want an upgrade for free post. Sorry but if Apple spent extra money for the memory they would have cut somewhere else if the price was to be the same.

"Because of Icloud" - is the key here. Speaking from my own experience if optimize storage is ON this is possible. And of course icloud storage need to bought
And if optimize storage is not on and the user has a 256 GB phone for example that had 90 GB used, they will still need to buy more iCloud storage to do backups.

My problem is that only the iPhone Pro comes as a 512 GB option. I don't have any use for the additional camera features and would happily upgrade my iPhone 8 (256 GB) to the standard iPhone 11, however I also use my phone as an portable audio player that carries my whole music collection, which currently takes up 230 GB and growing (already transcoded to a lossy format) - it really bothers me that I have to get the expensive Pro device to fit my music onto it.

An affordable Sony Walkman would fix this issue, but who wants to carry another device?

I find 64gb to be plenty of space. All my families cloud storage needs fit into the 200gb iCloud service. I’m not in the target market for the 11 pro because I have a X but I wouldn’t hesitate to get the 64gb model. Spending more would just be a waste of money (as it was when I got the 256gb iPad).

There is nothing “Pro” about a phone. It’s just a silly name Apple added to the phone. It’s not a “Pro” camera. It’s just a $20 camera with some software.

It's just getting on with the times. By your argument we should have just stayed at 16GB or 32GB.

64GB is fair for the mainstream 11 which put cost as a priority over the shiny things, but definitely not ok for the higher end lines.
