I actually went with the base storage this year. I have a 128gb XR and still have 90gb available. I've over bought storage every single year and I never come close to filling it.

That's the beauty of iCloud, there's no need to get anything but the base storage.

Exactly, and I pay extra for iCloud storage for all my photos etc and just leave it all in there. Now for my iPads etc I do go bigger as I tend to keep all my apps/games on that, not so much on my iPhone though!

I've got a 256GB iPad and it has 185GB available.

Went with 64GB again. My XS 64GB is at less than 50% capacity. Photos/videos go to Google Photos and the on-device copies are deleted, I use GPM for music so aside from a couple hundred songs downloaded everything else is streamed and I don’t have any large games taking up space.

I was really unaware of this. My iphone 7 already had 80GB of data used so felt the need to upgrade to iphone X 256GB but when i transferred everything over all my pics went to my icloud.
2 years later and i havent even used 64GB of my 256 iphone X.
So i have opted for the pro max 64gb

64gb is enough for me but i went for 128 (XR) for times when you are recording videos at 4k say at a music festival or even traveling around beautiful places where you might not have a connection for icloud for a couple of days.

When it comes to videos i think no amount of storage is enough though. May be iOS 13 would allow to plug in an usb and offload the vids.

I would have thought the base model of the "pro" iphone should at the very least start on 128gb- more so at that price -999 usd in US & 1179 euros in the EU !!

Such a stupid option for the price
No one complained last year.

It's actually remarkable how many people buy 64GB because everything is now cloud based. If you have the data for it, your music, videos and photos are streamed from the cloud. I don't have unlimited data so I need the storage, but if I had unlimited data...64GB would be more than enough for me. Save photos and videos to iCloud and deleted them from the phone. Stream music via Google Play Music.

Do you enjoy micromanaging the data on your smartphone, constantly moving data to make space? Is it like a game?

Surely if the base price going up to maintain the profit margin on the extra storage space means people who don't need the extra space end up paying for it whether they like it or not?
Those who want 128GB are forced to pay for 256GB of space whether they need it or not.

64GB on a supposedly 'Pro' model at that price point is laughable. Also, the cost of flash storage has fallen so Apple's profit margins are automatically increased.

It's not that it's not needed. It's just a greedy move by Apple. All other smartphones start at 128GB Base storage, even 256GB now, and yet Apple's supposed "Pro" phone starting with 64GB base storage at $1.200? It's just ridiculous.

You upgrading to the Max?

I'm going from the XS to the Pro Max.. 64GB too since I have 30gb left lol iCloud ftw! Secure data even if your phone dies and no reason to go beyond base storage...

Despite not needing the 128GB I do agree the base should start there...

What do you mean? When I had a 64GB iPhone X, I never micromanaged anything. I streamed all my music and took a ton of video and photos. I didn't get close to filling up the phone. That's just me though. I pay the 99 cents for the 50GB of iCloud storage so my photos were always backed up to there and I used the "Most Efficient" save method for photos and video.

It's not like I was living on the edge of 64GB and had to delete videos so that I could download music.

This would make the upgrade path a little salty for myself a 128 XR user to a Pro

No way I’m wanting to shell out $149 more for a 256 as it’s overkill and though 64 would
Probably work, it limits my configuration on the device if I were to keep it for multiple years. One year would likely be fine but .. then you’re talking about full intention to use a phone for just a year at $1000+tax that will rapidly depreciate

Then again I’m reminded I also have an upgrade coming up in a month or two on att for that subsidy pricing but still...

64 is plenty for me but to be honest the PRO models should start at 128GB AT LEAST

Apple stop with your greediness or your customer will eventually leave you.

I agree this is just being greedy to make a bit more profit.. Especially when storage is basically the same as last year right?

no need to micromanage with iCloud, it’s done automatically.

I think we have long since proven that customers won’t/don’t leave. Where else can they get an iOS device?

y'all thought tim cook was gonna give y'all 128GB

I actually didn’t personally but it’s still shifty

I’d take 128 over a fast charger included in box since I have like four or five already (Walmart cleared out the 29w for $7 at a point in time when the 30w came
Out, took advantage of it)

That's exactly what would have happened if they chose to start at 128 GB or 256 GB with the same price. Nothing is free. I don't see why people are complaining about having the option to buy less. This reminds me of Android fanboys who think if you don't buy what they want you're wrong. I'm sorry but if enough users only need 64 GB then Apple will offer it to them. The whole why don't they offer 16 GB argument is faulty because no one or perhaps very few would be able to use it. I know so many people who have 64 GB on their iPhone and aren't anywhere close to the limit. Once time changes where these people need more then Apple will remove the 64 GB option.

A strong argument for having the option to buy just the phone without having to pay for the charger and headphones could be made but haters would have a field day with this so it's not likely to happen

It's not that they're trapped there's currently no viable alternative.
The whole trapped in the ecosystem is silly. Most iPhone users don't have an ecosystem other than iCloud backup and a few apps they purchased. I could go to a Note 10+ and would have absolutely no issues. It's an awesome phone and would do everything my XS Max would do (sorry Apple fanboys ;) ). I just choose not to for several reasons. First is privacy/ security and the second is support. I can go to the Apple store anytime and get help or repairs if I have issues. I have other smaller reasons but that's unimportant. The thing is of my own free will I choose to use an iPhone. This might be hard to comprehend by Android fanboys but ole Timmy isn't forcing me. Will I ever get an Android phone? Possibly and I've had several in the past.
