Yeah, I mean, if bezels bothered these people so much, then why are they even with Apple?

They should have jumped ship and left Apple in 2015 when Samsung and others introduced really small bezels...

The nice thing about fat bezels was that it was harder to click on stuff you didn't mean to click on in the first place. Not sure the extra real estate has really been worth the occasional "wut?! not what i meant to do!" experience. Looks nice, but there's a tradeoff now and then.

Looks nice, but doesn’t work as well.

Form, over function.

My black iPhone XR also chip unawares... never drop or scratch off anything... quite frustrating for a such high price device

It might be a defect with the anodization with the aluminum. I would contact Apple, they would have to inspect the device, but if it’s a defect, they would replace it under warranty.

Yeah I wish the whole form, over function thing would die. No point in something looking good if it doesn't work how you want it too....

Yep. Well I think the skinny bezels thing was originally about trying to get more real estate without creating a heavier device or a larger one with more potential for awkward ergonomics.

I do get that line of thought, but after a point it becomes counterproductive. Edge to edge responsiveness can be pretty annoying if you're trying to one-hand a device.

And now that we've apparently become greedy for still more real estate, the devices are larger anyway (and un-ergonomic despite those software tweaks for accessibilitiy), so we have all that AND STILL have edge to edge issues with the occasional "oops didn't mean to launch that app" experience.

I now stick apps I don't mind launching accidentally on the outside of the rows of my apps, on at least the first home screen. I got tired of launching stuff like messages or maps when I was just shifting my grip while reading the darn news. So now when I fat-finger something into action, it's likely to be just some other news app I tend to leave open anyway.

Has anyone else’s Xr battery turned absolutely awful after about 5-6 months? For the first 3-4 months I’d get 36 hours out of a full charge, but now it is barely getting past 16 hours before needing to be charged again. Battery health is 98% so wouldn’t expect such drain at this stage. Had got so used to not having to carry around a portable charger I’d forgotten how bad iPhone batteries are, but that familiar feeling has returned!

No, my launch day XR is still the same battery wise as when it was brand new. However, battery health still says 100% which I find surprising and a bit hard to believe.

Lucky you, wish mine hadn’t degenerated so quickly.

How does yours compare with the below?

I had the black for less than week. It showed every particle of dust and lint. The ring around the lightning connector was already getting scratched from plugging it in. The finish wasn't perfect on 2 devices. It looked as if it was rubbing off. I bought a white one and it was perfect. It stays clean and it looks brand new 6 months later. I will never buy a black Apple device again. I wish they used the same Space Gray as the MacBook Pro. Oh well.

Yeap, it’s not really impressed me at all since I got it, I do watch a few videos and surf the web a lot but I was expecting better battery life from it I admit. Look at my stats it’s pretty poor really:

I have to add though that I do use a nice Belkin fast charging wireless charger so maybe that affects the battery in some way? It uses the iPhones maximum charging current, and the phone does generally get me through the day.

Is this really considered bad? Serious question because I generally use smaller phones so my battery life isn't as good. On a couple days you had about 4 hours of screen time while utilizing about 50% of your battery so that could be up to 8 hours of screen time for a full charge depending on usage. That seems pretty good to me for a phone. I'd get 3 days out of this thing.

Maybe, I just expected more with the way people were talking about it, it doesn’t get 8 hours I don’t think? To be honest I came from a 6S with knackered battery to the XR so initially it was like a polar opposite battery life!
Still the XR has become my main computing device so I do use it an awful lot. And it lasts the day, can ask for more then that. But it does need charging at the end of the day.

In general you don't get 8 hours, but a couple of days you were heading in that direction. Battery life doesn't seem bad to me based on your graphs but I can see how you may have been expecting more based on reviews, etc.

If you want to improve it, use battery saver mode. You really won't notice a difference in performance with the A12 chip and I bet you increase screen time by 1-2 hours. I use an X and there is a noticeable increase in battery life on battery saver mode while performance only suffers slightly. (It was still faster than my 6s which is pretty speedy for a 4 years old phone.)
