Gotta be in it to win it
I completely agree with you and as soon as I can play Hearthstone on it I will be like the cat that caught the canary. It is an amazingly light and beautiful tablet, one of the best I have bought so far and that includes ipads.

I agree it's nice to see possible competition with Sammy etc, the only suck factor is the bloody exclusivity. I really hate that with phones, I think it's what stymied the first gen Moto X in Canada. One of the best rated phones around and only available on "robbers". I think exclusivity hurts the OEMS more than it helps them especially if its one of their flag ship releases.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Really? Just really? There are millions of users that are just as happy with their Android or Windows phone experience. Apple does not have the market cornered on user experience. I have happily used both and I can tell you other than perhaps one thing (inability to completely back up my phone and apps the way Apple has it set up) is the ONLY thing I miss about iOS. I hate it when people on forums puke out trite statements that they have been fed by others.

"It just works" Tell that to all of the new iOS8 people who have trouble connecting with wifi. Time and time again with every update of the OS. Or people who have their devices rendered virtually useless when updates come up and they are trusting that since it is available to their devices, that it is safe and a good thing to do.

Maybe Android doesn't support some of the older devices, but at least you can revert back to the older version if it doesn't work or if you are tech savvy enough you can use custom ROMs to get the latest.

I would rather have the upgrade not available to my mom than to have to explain why she has to fork out 800.00 for a new phone because an update frigged hers up.

User experience indeed!!

/rant over

I'm one of those ios 8 people in the "just works" camp. I bought my s.o. a new 5s. Half hour later it was activated and ready for use with everything intact.

So yes, I'm in the just works camp. And because we have a close family, all of us are staying on iPhone due to imessage and FaceTime. Even extended family has started to switch from android to iponr due to the user experience.

Even my aunt who is up there in years rocks an iPhone and Mac. I wouldn't even think of giving her android. </one off case anecdote>

dont be so overdramatic.

I'm not being overdramatic. I would LOVE to enjoy AMOLED. But I can't. it is what it is.

anandtech doesnt say in so many words, they consider AMOLED superior displaymate unequivocally states that AMOLED since s5 has been superior in every scientific facet.

Great for them! If I could read that review and train my stomach to not wretch when I look the screen for more than a few minutes, basically saying "don't get sick, because SCIENCE!!!" I would totally do that.

In real life though, it doesn't work that way. People have different opinions and reactions to different tech. And I'm merely presenting my personal experiences, which happen to be negative. That's all there is to it. Sorry that discords with your attempt to make a universal truth.

iMessage, FaceTime, PhotoStream, AirDrop are all reasons I stick to the iPhone. My family is all Apple as well (my doing initially) and these communication and sharing methods are second to none.

What a load of crap "if Apple ever switches to AMOLED, I'm going to have to switch platforms". You ain't going nowhere, and would be giddy as a school girl if Apple put a AMOLED screen on the iPhone.

Read my post again. The screen makes me feel ill. that's not an exaggeration, and I don't know what causes it. I'm not going to use something that makes me feel ill. I'll either stick to the previous model, or look at other options.

And, please don't tell me what I will or won't do. I'll make my own decisions, thanks.

Nothing subjective about it, unless you are blinded by the Apple light.

That opinion alone reeks of subjectivity.

Your post average is 7.57 a day about how great the iPhone and iOS has been to you, and yet the bulk of your posts are in the Alternatives Section. Why?

If Apple were to open it's own theme park, you would probably piss yourself.

I used to be in that camp. I am not saying that the Apple products are not more simple. I use my ipad to facetime my mom every week. I got my dad an imac because I was tired of long distance trouble shooting for PC, HOWEVER, gone are the days that it "just works" That died when Steve Jobs did, god rest his soul.

I am happy that everything is working for you and your family. Really. However, sadly there are many many more out there who are encountering difficulties with the new products and old products. I am not going to bother linking some of them but all you have to do is search online for issues in both camps.

Apple fans are always claiming that it's not all about the specs. And you know what? I agree 100% with you. HOWEVER, there is no getting away from the fact that the iPhones are cheap to make thanks to the aging parts which are running it and therefor Apple could have made their phones AT LEAST $100 cheaper, but do they? Nope, they want every bit of revenue they can get. And even sicker than that is the jump of $100 between every storage option. That's just insanity. One Plus One shows that a jump from 32GB to 64GB doesn't need to drain your wallet.

Right. It's the right section to discuss pros in IOS over android and some/a lot of your posts are trolling.
you misunderstand...
its not trolling to be in the Alternative section and post Android is better.......thats what the ALTERNATIVE SECTION is for....

Its trolling to go to the iPhone section and post that the iPhone sucks......
Do you see the difference?

BTW I don't think the iPhone sucks...its a great phone.....

Online forums are the worst examples of extrapolating issues to real world results. For example I would never make a car purchase decision based on anything I read in an enthusiast forum.

No you dont understand, trolling is when you say "you will piss on yourself". Merely stating an opinion related to the subject at hand without ad-hominem attacks is not trolling and that I agree.

And to your point, I have nothing against android, it's not what I want to use as my daily driver and some nice hardware comes out of the manufacturers.

iPhones aren't "cheap" to make. The BOM also doesn't show all the money that goes into the iPhone - ignoring R&D, logistics, engineering, etc. Apple pulls in a healthy profit, but that's what the company is there for. To make money. Not to cater to your every whim.

Also, Apple doesn't charge $100 to go from 32 GB to 64 GB. They charge $100 for 16 GB > 64 GB and from 64 GB > 128 GB.

No, trolling is when every time I and other users makes a comment about what they like about Android or what they wish the iPhone/iOS included, you seem to always reply with your PR like statements of how the iPhone/iOS is perfect in every way. Give it a break already.

Trolling.... see below.... this is you in the Alternative section.......

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[4]

You give it the same break bud. You post in an IOS vs android thread, call names when posters disagree with your assessment and then tell people to give it a break. Riiight.

Well explain how other companies manage to pack 2GB of RAM, more internal storage (32GB instead of 16GB), 1080p displays instead of 750p, stronger CPUs etc in Android phones and still sell them for the same price as the iPhone (or less)? Just stop try to justify the price of the iPhones! It's great phones but they are simply too expensive by today standards.

Because they sell their devices at break-even prices and make their money in other ways.

You want to continue thinking these companies are altruistic and being nice to you - they're making their money. And if you can't readily see where, it probably means you don't want to know.

Apple is a hardware company. They make money selling hardware. Their iPhone margins are in the 35-40% range. Healthy but not gouging.

iPhones don't cost anymore than other top tier smartphones from Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC etc - i.e. other hardware companies.

Companies like Google can sell their Nexus devices cheaper because they aren't trying to make money off them. They make money through advertising and customer information. Amazon sells at break even because....well they don't really make much money - but their pricing model is based on content/Prime.

And these Chinese companies make money on low-cost phones by employing sweat shop workers and paying them inhumane wages. They also aren't distributing the devices world-wide so they have much lower logistical costs and generally have a lower build quality.

By the way - iPhones have some of, if not the best, CPUs and GPUs on the market by benchmarking standards. Their displays, while sometimes lower in resolution, are some of the highest quality displays on the market. And the devices are always very well-built.

EDIT: I just realized I'm arguing with a person who's screen name is "cracksoup"......

I remember when Jobs was alive. I knew that the iPhone warranted top dollar. Now not so such. If apple don't beat these specs. iPhone 6 will be my last iPhone. Check out this crap from motorola. I guess I'm just jealous.

http://www.dailytech.com/199+Motoro...+Battery+Life+52+QHD+Display/article36794.htm

I am definitely jealous my future note 4 only get 3200 mAh vs 3900 mAh for this Droid.
But no sd card slot is not acceptable imo.
Also removable back enables to get a spare battery.

Anyway Moto is going into right direction here

I am very aware that the iPhones cost the same as the top tier android phones but you get cheaper hardware on the iPhone. They are pricing their products higher because they have a huge amount of people who will buy their products no matter what.

They have some of the best CPU's yes, but it's not the best anymore. Snapdragon 805 beats the A8 multi score by a thousand points. It's up there with the A8X in benchmarks. The GPU in apples processors are still one of a kind though.

Yeah and I'm arguing with a person who's screen name is jrswizzle. What's your point?

Since you people seem to think that I look like a major douche bashing apple, I will just say that that's not the case. I like Apple as a company and using my iPad Air and/or MacBook Air everyday. However, they just can't justify the prices on their phones.

(1) Please source the bolded - and when was the Snapdragon 805 (or better yet, a smartphone with it) released?

EDIT: Looks like the Note 4 (US version) is the first to have the 805 - from the AnTuTu benchmarks, in which it only out does the 801 by 1,000 on a much higher scale, my guess is it doesn't outperform the 801 by all that much in Geekbench (cross platform) and the 801 is very similar to the A8 in terms of score.

(2) Provide me with sources that Apple uses "cheaper" materials. Do you know the BOM for Samsung's flagship devices? How about HTC's? If you do (I would assume you would since you're making very definitive statements about Apple using "cheaper parts").

EDIT: Quick Google search for Samsung BOM's yielded results in the $230 range for the GS4/Note 3. Very similar to the iPhone 5S/6/6+. And they share the same consumer pricing as well.....fascinating.

(3) From the benchmarks I've seen, nothing comes within a thousand points of the A8X - though the Nexus 9 is not officially out yet and the Tegra K1 running it hasn't been benchmarked except in the Shield tablet (and it's quite a bit behind the A8X).
