Those who are upgrading- 11 inch or 12.9?

if Apple chops an 1 1/2 inches off the 12.9 then I'm going with it (512gb & cellular). there is the factor of the present 12.9 larger size, but the user interaction is impressive. presently i have all 4 screen sizes and have valued the 10.5, but the experience of the 12.9 delivers the most as a desktop & laptop replacement

I’m leaning towards the 12.9 if they do make it abit smaller. Can be a true laptop and tablet for me.

With getting a 6.5 iPhone I might no5 need a smaller iPad anymore

There is never going to be a new mini. Cook even said the bigger phones have cannibalized the mini. Your whole post is stupid. The only difference between the pros are screen size. They are the exact same specs. Some people find the 12in to be too big, while the 10.5 to be the sweet spot. The 11in is the same form factor of the 10.5 except the top and bottom bezels will match the size of the side bezels, thus making it 11inches.

I’m torn. I have a 12.9” iPad which i love, and use at home 99.9% of the time, but I’m going to have a long commute to work soon and a smaller iPad would be perfect. But... then it won’t be as good ot use at home. Decisions decisions. Need to decide quickly as i want to get it on launch date.

I have a 10.5" and it is great...the only thing I am hoping for with the 11" is that it will support a fullsize iPad app (9.7" size class) side by side with a iPhone sized app. I'm not sure if the math works out, but it is the one thing I missed from when I had a 12.9" iPad.

I’m confused. The current 10.5 supports a full sized app and an iPhone app so the 11” surely should. Are you saying you don’t like two full sized apps (like the 12.9) and actually prefer iPad and iPhone. Why? If they increase resolution maybe the new 11” will actually support two full sized apps as well and one would think that’s better than the iPad/iPhone split. No?

I think you may be misreading their post. They are saying they want two full sized apps side by side in the new 11” model. That’s what they meant by their 9.7” size class comment. They want two 9.7” UIs displayed side by side when multitasking on the new 11” model.

Edit: reading it again it sounds like they want a 9.7” next to an iPhone UI app. I’m guessing this would be accomplished in the 2/3 / 1/3 view. Now I’m confused LOL!

Exciting release. My first iPad since the original long dead mini and I can barely contain myself. Fingers crossed it’s september.

11 inch, wifi only. I don't really have a need for cellular, and 11 is the perfect size. I had an 11 inch MacBook Air for years, and still to this day, is my all time favorite laptop. I'm using a 13 inch MacBook Pro now, and I always wish it were just a bit smaller.

That MBa was something else man. My mid 2011 is still my all time favorite apple machine. I edited a 150000 word book on it with no external. Still does backup duty as my iTunes and plex server.

It was 11.3 thiugh wasn’t it? I’ve played with both the current sizes in the store. Maybe it’s older eyes but as a laptop replacement I think I may need the larger screen. The new 11 is rumored to be just abojt the same dimensions as the 10.5 and that seems a bit too small for serious work. Let’s see. Just this once I won’t be swiping the card at launch. Will wait for some reviews and real life experiences amongst you guys before I buy. It’s a big purchase I don’t have the luxury of trying them both out so the decision needs to be well thought out.

What I mean is full sized landscape, on the 12.9" if you open Mail and stick notes next to it, Mail will still show the full sidebar email list and the full email contents.

On the 10.5" it is like a full size portrait mode app - meaning you have to slide the sidebar over the mail content by tapping the back button to see it. That meaning you can't just scroll and tap through emails like when the app is fullscreen, you have an extra tap to swap to a different email.

I think if they keep the same size as the 10.5" and the screen just gets wider (in landscape) this should be possible.

I use my iPad Pro for drawing and as a laptop substitute with ASK, so 12.9” all the way. If anything, I might want it bigger. For casual reading and such, iPad mini is top.

Both WiFi. I rarely use them outside of places with WiFi, and when I do I can hotspot.

As an artist who travels a lot, I am leaning towards the 11” iPad Pro. I was already sold on the 10.5” size before these new models with the slimmer bezels & Face ID were rumored. An extra half inch in the same form factor is always welcome. The current 12.9” screen is great for art, but the physical size was just a tad too big for my mobile lifestyle. However...with the slimmer bezels of the upcoming version, I am curious to see if it has become more portable. I really wanted to order one of the new iPad Pros online immediately, but now I may have to actually wait to check them out in the store first before I decide which one. Argh!

But whichever size I do go with, it’ll definitely be the cellular version with 512 gigs. I am still grandfathered in on the original AT&T unlimited data plan for iPads. And I want the biggest size storage for video & photo editing.

Unfortunately no. Just an iPad mini. But it does give a rough idea of the diff btwn the 11” & 12.9”.

Either way, the new 12.9" looks to be a lot lot lot smaller, and heading towards the current (not new) 10.5" iPad. Having owned the gen 1 12.9" for 2.5 years, there is no going back to a smaller size. The larger screen is fantastic for watching videos and browsing the web.
