The advantage apple has is on board neural engine on pretty much every device since the iPhone 11. They can push hard on the software side and know that every iPhone sold new in the past what... 5 years will run AI workloads that use the onboard neural engine.
Which means any software dev knows they can get a significant user base if they write AI software for iPhone, as any iPhone 5 years old or newer can run it. Android? Crapshoot. PCs? Don't make me laugh.
Do you have any specific examples that are untrue or is this just a feeling? This is not true. In the last iPhone keynote they mentioned so often industry-first it was just embarrassing
Not a fan of Apple pricing, but a huge fan of them focusing on privacy…AI and privacy must go hand in hand
During today's earnings call covering the second fiscal quarter of 2024, Apple CEO Tim Cook again spoke about Apple's work on generative AI. He said that Apple has "advantages" that will "differentiate" the company in the era of AI, and some "very exciting things" will be shared with customers in the near future.
Rumors have suggested that Apple's first AI features are designed to run on-device rather than contacting a cloud service, which would make Apple's AI much more private and secure than an online AI option. Apple's plan to have generative AI available on-device will require significant CPU and GPU power, and Apple is planning to focus on AI with the upcoming M4 chip.
We could see the M4 chip as soon as next week in new iPad Pro models, with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman indicating last weekend that there is a chance Apple will unveil the chip in the iPad Pro models.

This is what I keep wondering. Companies can only look one quarter ahead. Once they lay off everyone, who’s buying their stuff? Even if we get a Universal Basic Income, which in the US will be like pulling teeth, that amount wouldn’t be enough to survive, let alone buy frivolously.… companies will still need people to work jobs so they can pay for things. No jobs = no economy.
iAIt feels so weird that Apple is embracing something without renaming it. I would have expected them to call it "Synthetic Cognition" or something instead of AI.
Everybody added dedicated hardware NPU starting with Huawei Kirin 970 and Apple A11 in 2017, Samsung in 2018, and Qualcomm in 2019.
Besides, Apple isn't going to make new AI features available to old devices. They won't even make camera or 80% charging limit available to n-1 models.
I'm personally not over invested in AI. However, apple needs everything at this point. There phones and the lack of new features and options is more telling now than ever.I believe it when I see it ...
UBI will never work for a society. Only a small % of people (likely artists types and self-motivated) would be ok. The vast majority of people need to work to keep them occupied and some sense of purpose. Idle hands are the devil’s playground, as it said. This is what I keep wondering. Companies can only look one quarter ahead. Once they lay off everyone, who’s buying their stuff? Galaxy S24 ad Pixel 8 have 8 GB RAM and run Gemini nano without any issues.Advantage: Apple can run the on device AI on 8GB devices while others need 16GB.
Good point. Would be great to see apple making AI work on 6GB devices but I think those are already too "old".Galaxy S24 ad Pixel 8 have 8 GB RAM and run Gemini nano without any issues.
No it's not as that's already been done.Processing all on device is a huge advantage.
