These forums have gotten more and more pessimistic and flippant as time goes on…

The majority of conversations seem to be critical and condescending at base, with rational discussion and optimistic speculation dismissed or ridiculed regularly.

That said, I’m truly excited to see what Apple has in store for Siri 2.0. I don’t personally care for generative AI, but a truly helpful and advanced AI assistant would connect all the dots of Apples ecosystem soooo well - especially given how controlled/consistent it is.

Bring it on! 🤓👍
I completely understand sharing a frustrating experience or a bug with a product you're regularly using. But before we've even seen it or heard details about it? Call out Apple when they screw up, but if someone's going to be so negative about something they haven't even seen, it makes me wonder why they're still using an iPhone. Unless they just have an issue with AI in general, which I understand as well. But let's cool it with the Siri comparisons.

Apple today held its annual shareholders meeting, and during the event, Apple CEO Tim Cook once again commented on Apple's AI plans. Cook said that the company will "break new ground" in generative AI in 2024. "We believe it will unlock transformative opportunities for our users," said Cook.

Cook has made several statements on Apple's artificial intelligence ambitions in recent months. Back in November, he said that Apple was "investing quite a bit" in AI, and in February, he said that the company was spending a "tremendous amount of time and effort" on AI, with more details to come later in the year.

Multiple rumors have said that Apple will add new generative AI features in iOS 18, with plans to use AI to boost the capabilities of many of the built-in iOS apps.

Aside from Cook's comments on AI, the shareholder meeting was business as usual. As noted by Bloomberg, shareholders rejected a proposal asking Apple for an AI transparency report with details on whether AI is being used ethically.

Apple's board and executive compensation plans were approved, but no shareholder proposals were accepted. Al Gore and James Bell are set to retire from Apple's board, while former Aerospace Corp. CEO Wanda Austin will join.

Sounds desperate to please the market.

They just move around 2000 staff who were working to the apple car project to the generative AI project.

From now to the next WWDC they have 3 months. Let's see what comes out.
Strange how staff who should have an expertise in the automotive industry are now being moved to work on something far from that. This may explain why “Apple Car” was cancelled, because they weren’t actually “experts” at anything automotive. OR they were in fact, experts in automotive, and now the Generative AI project will be subpar due to the lack of expertise in that field from said staff.

I guess the automotive engineers will learn to code.

Apple was not first to the market with Smart Phones and look what happened! Think Different!
Except AI is about training and “feeding” the AI with the most amount of information the fastest. With Apple being so late to the game, they most likely will not be able to catch up. They certainly will not be at Google’s level due to the amount of information Google has obtained over the years.

I'm a little optimistic because there have been instances before where Apple rolled out something that was so bad, and they redeemed themselves later on. MobileMe was a disaster, but they came back with iCloud. Apple Maps was awful, but they overhauled it and now lots of people say it's better than Google Maps. Apple knows the lame reputation Siri has and they have to come out with something big in AI.
But they variable of time in AI is one of the most important. There’s no time to “just come back and fix it” that would put them even further behind than they already are. AI has an exponential learning curve and that is why this is a race.

I get why people are so sour on the idea and statements like this, but you know what? I am thinking if anyone can make AI seamless and really integrated well... well there is this one company that has the opportunity...

All one has to do is use an Echo or Google home/nest device (the latter of which I own and use - Google Nest Audio) and experience the much better experience (vs Siri) ... and one would rightfully be pretty skeptical that Apple is going to blow anyone away in this space.

Love to be shocked -- but it would indeed be a shock

I want to be optimistic, but Apple hasn't done anything to make me optimistic for the last few years. They keep saying things like "This is the best ___________ ever" or "This will have tremendous use cases for our users" (Or something like that) and I just don't see it. It's almost like an oversell, under deliver type of thing. Considering where all the other tech companies are vs Apple which is the biggest tech company in the world, my expectations should be pretty high. I'm just sick and tired of living in a world where the next Iphone is the "best Iphone ever" and stuff like that. I don't want best ever. I want most improved. The more you advance technology, the more it should be easier for the user, and it hasn't felt like that with Apple lately.

so they said about siri 14 years ago. I’m not saying Siri isnt worth the 1000 developers they promised working on Siri along 14 years thought…

I almost hear Tim saying "This is the best Siri we have ever shipped."

I'll imagine the next version of MacOS will have generative AI queries built into a spotlight search... As is being done with Alfred.
