It's about elevating the experience for all. It doesn't hurt Apple to allow interoperability but interoperability puts a door in the ecosystem. Can't have that now can we? :(

Lowest-common-denominator SMS Txt messaging is bad when there are better options. Use the better options when they are available. That's all that's being asked here. It's an unreasonable answer by Tim and Apple.

"The lack of RCS support on iOS makes it much harder for iOS and Android users to communicate normally, forcing them to use third-party messaging platforms such as WhatsApp or Telegram."
Can someone explains me what makes it harder to communicate with Android users? The only difference I see is the green bubbles.

Having worked on RCS wayyyy back when it was cool, it is not any better than any other messaging protocol. Even within RCS, there are sub standards and each client of RCS can choose to support some but not all parts of RCS.I use Telegram for my Android friends and I would see that as a better option than to force an iPhone on anyone, however I would not let my mom use an Android phone hehe

Damn, talk about an egotistical response. People here will praise Tim but “buy your mom an iPhone” sounds so unprofessional and obnoxious.
Yet I can absolutely imagine Steve Jobs saying that and even more people going “yeaaaah you tell ‘em!”

It’s a very Apple thing to say. Cook just doesn’t have Steve’s showmanship so the association is rude rather than whimsy. Steve was great at being arrogant and funny at the same time in a way that made his stage persona seem likable despite him being a very ruthless businessman. Apple could use more of that whimsiness again.

Well you can’t send images or files over text. (MMS has been discontinued here many years ago and never really used cuz one MMS was like 49 cent). Do group chats work with sms? I guess not

Tim Cook's response was obnoxious, but the reporter's questioning was probably disingenuous.

The reporter who asked the question pushed Cook on his response, saying he and his mother find it difficult to send photos and videos to each other because she uses an Android while they use an iPhone

It's not difficult. Do what the rest of the world does and use WhatsApp, or something similar.

This is more a US issue. I use iMessage myself (mostly to other iPhone users that I message often) because I like the integration and all. WhatsApp is really the default option for most outside the US (or some other ones like WeChat, Line etc in certain countries) regardless of what phone they use. Apple doesn’t have much to gain to spend their time and resources on it. As much as the US is their home market and a major revenue source, it is rather trivial to implement when it doesn’t really benefit the majority of iPhone users across the world.

Arrogant Apple man’s feeling himself innit.
Wastemans green text boys can kick a futbol bruv!!!
