I will decide if $550 is a fair price after I put this headphone through it’s paces, time will tell.

It will have to be remarkable considering others on the market now have come down in price and are very good for my needs.

If Apple is serious about high quality audio then they need to get serious about the audio quality via Apple Music. Headphones are only as good as the source of the music. I rest my case.
Oh and lucky for me I got a pair from Santa so will be playing with them later ?

In a few month apple will release AirPods Pro Max that will deliver way more bang for the buck than these. The AirPods MAx's will price drop to $400 and the pros will be close to $600. They will have a better case, better sound, different charging methods, they will fold, they will be lighter, they will have leather, longer battery life, better sound, a way to turn them off, and smaller footprint.

I guess for $200 more they best beat the Shure Aonic. We’ll see, at least that one gives a nice case and a cable for wired listening also, lol.

No commitment so it can’t hurt to try them. Without that I doubt I would.

They are absolutely going to sell you a 100 or 200 dollar case that it should have come with. ?

Of course Apple will come out with Pro Max 2, I would not bet against that UNLESS this one doesn’t sell well. That remains to be seen.

And of course there is no proof of another one. Apple at this point ain’t going to let folks have second thoughts about getting this one and waiting it out instead. And they have no clue what the market is at this point anyways.

I think the headphone market is a tough market on the whole and in terms of over ear headphones, Apple are quite late. They’ve gone after the high end lifestyle market rather than the mass market or luxury headphone sector which is an interesting strategy. I suppose when you consider AirPods Pro’s are priced high, the AirPods Max were never going to be £150-300. That pretty much means these will be more on the niche side of things and selling well will be based on that and not the mass numbers we as consumers might define it as. I don’t think we’ll ever see these in the majority of iPhone users hands just like we don’t see the normal AirPods on huge numbers of people.

I’m sure if Apple release AirPods Max at $699 or even $899, the OP would have created a thread titled “Time to accept that $699 is a “fair” price” or “Time to accept that $899 is a “fair” price”
Sony and Bose may introduce new models down the line with a higher price to compete even more closely with Apple’s AirPods Max. Then again, Apple may be forced to reduce the price (like they did with HomePod) to better compete with Bose and Sony.

Right now AirPods Max are so new that they still have plenty of customers not batting an eye at the price because Apple has customers that would pay $999 for these headphones anyways.

I still think that AirPods are priced strangely, but they still sell them like hot cakes.

Why $159 instead of $149?

My theory is that Apple operates on a profit-maximising model, so their products are priced along this like. So I guess that Apple management have done their math and determined $159 to be the “magic” number that maximises the amount of money they bring in. Lowering it to $149 will likely not increase sales by any meaningful amount to make up for the shortfall.

They also price high and allow discounts through other retailers as necessary if adjustments are needed.

How is it insane? It follows exactly what they do. In a few months there will be an updated design for MacBooks. iPhones have pro and normal models, AirPods and AirPods Pro, Silicon case and leather case, iMac and iMac Pro
Assuming you're a troll, so not going to argue with you. But what I will do is make a thread with your "prediction" a few months from now so people can see what a clown you are.

My only comment is on the last part - we see (or at least I see) the normal AirPods on TONS of people... they seem to be pretty ubiquitous in my own, anecdotal, experience... certainly when they came out a few years back they weren't common, but now they absolutely are

A few months from now? Well certainly that isn’t gonna happen for a hint of another release so the price for these will not drop that soon. And we’ll see if $550 is a fair price when the fever folks have now getting this dies down. It is the same old story with headphones as it has been for ages which is diminishing returns. Gotta pay higher to get X amount more percentage wise satisfaction than what they already have now. I already know this will more than likely disappoint me in that regard cause the ones I have now are half the cost. And well all of them are comfortable, not heavy, have very good sound, and excellent noise cancellation.

But like I said, you can return them so why not at least try them. But I certainly ain’t gonna try the B&O h95. And you can post in a few months that I predicted that their price will drop like a rock for those.

I would of actually been happy to pay a max of £749 for these after trying them! Don't tell Apple though!

og homepods were the most recent over priced apple item and essentially remain on constant sale. These you can barely find anywhere

They aren’t so common where I am. I do see them on people but not to the extent you’d see someone wearing an Apple Watch for example. I don’t have any close friends or family who own AirPods either. All anecdotal like everyone’s experience I know.

When people don't make an argument but attack a person for their view, it shows a lack of emotional intelligence. Please post a public pic of you walking around with your bra headphone purse please.

You suggested that despite the APMs just being released, Apple is somehow going to release a massively better version "months" from now for about $50 more and drop the price of the APMs to $399. And then you followed that up by claiming that "this is what Apple usually does with other products."

Some arguments are so absurd that they don't merit a response. The sky is green and the sun revolves around the earth.
