See you in a few months when the novelty to try something different wears off.

Been there myself. Lasted about 3 months on Android before wanting iOS back.
Funny you say that because I used to be die hard Apple. Tried the Note 7 (RIP) and I have been hooked on Android since. Everytime I use my wife's iPhone I just....dislike the experience heavily.

I am going to use the new Apple Watch with my old 6+ iPhone and, because my situation requires two phones. I'm getting the samsung note 8 from my new phone rather than a new iPhone.

Well I was sitting patiently with my 6S to see what Apple would announce last week.

The iPhone X is just ridiculous in terms of price (and the cutout) so I wouldn't even consider that.
The iPhone 8, I just don't see this as an upgrade from my 6S, aside from the camera and a couple of spec bumps.

I've been tempted with the Samsung S8 for a while and decided to take the plunge on Friday, replaced my 6S and Apple Watch Series 2 with S8 and Gear 3 Frontier.

The S8 is just a gorgeous piece of tech, the screen is outstanding and just a pleasure to use, I like the look of the Frontier, looks more like a real watch and it can be set to always on. I've only used them for a couple of days but so far I'm happy I made the right decision.

Don't get me wrong I'm not an Apple hater, they just didn't do enough to resist the temptation from Samsung. :)

How much money did you save by going samsung for the watch and S8? Looking at almost $2K for Apple watch and iPhone X.

That's true, but it's gotten to the point where how much faster do people need their phones to be? That part of the user experience is pretty much a given now, so people are more focused on other aspects.

I think it needs to continue to improve. I'd like to dock my phone and use it as a primary computer. One device to rule them all. In terms of hardware speed were probably already at a good baseline performance level.

You'll be back after a few more months, LOL. I do the same thing every year: Moto X, Galaxy S phone, HTC One, Droid Turbo 2, HTC 10, and Pixel are my Android experiences over the last handful of years. The longest I've lasted is 4 months with the HTC 10 a year or 2 ago.

I love tinkering, but that's what my PC is for. I use my phone for business related tasks as many others do I'm sure, and don't want to think about anything OS related throughout the day or night. iOS is boring but it flat out works for me without a hitch- all the time. There are always random and very minor issues / kinks you will notice in Android that after a few months will drive you crazy. It won't be tomorrow, it may not be a month from now. But it'll happen and you'll miss the fluidity and practicality of iOS.

I also currently have the itch to switch again believe it or not. The LG V30 that releases this week looks like the perfect phone. Not to mention the Pixel 2 XL next month. I hate the iPhone X with a passion so far, I need to see it in person before buying it. Currently have a 8+/256gb on reserve for 9/22 pick up.

Each has areas of irritation as well. What’s most irritating about the 7+ is the camera is damn awful compared my S8+. It’s really bad.

lol, this is hilarious.

Anyway, enjoy your samsung, it is a beautiful phone and if it works better for you than a iPhone then thats great!

Yikes that's a lot of money! Since it's been out for a while, there's usually a good deal to be had for the S8. I bought my S8+ for $550. Figure $250 for an Android smartwatch and the total is $800, $1200 less than an iPhone X and Apple Watch.

Not really. I’m dumping the 7+ for the 8+ and hope the sensors and processing are dramatically improved.

The Galaxy S8+ guts the 7+ when it comes to photos. Video is more comparable though.

If you like fake, oversaturated pictures, then sure. If you prefer close to life colors, the iPhone will be better. To be fair, I’m fine with the oversaturated look and so are most people, but it’s not “better”.

The A11 processor is an amazing piece of tech. That keeps getting overlooked in these post-keynote discussions.
What are people doing with their phones that this amount of power is necessary?

I use my phone for very basic tasks that the processor in a flip phone could handle.

Surely very few people are actually using their iPhones as a primary device to do the kind of work where this power is necessary.

And if that is the case then why, other than as a marketing point, is this being promoted?

People bitch at me because I buy the highest capacity model and never use even half of the space I get, but people buy iDevices with super powerful processors and never get close to using a fraction of the power they provide.

And I don't consider watching videos to be a neccesary use.

I'm about 3 months in with my s8 Plus and while the hardware is beautiful, I just don't like android OS. I have so many weird stutters, lag and just features that don't make sense how they work software wise. I'll be back to iOS eventually I just don't know how long I'll last with android.

It’s not a matter of color reproduction which can always be managed post processing. For what it’s worth the iPhone 7+ has more of a haziness to colors that looks more unnatural and stale than the S8+. It’s not a feature either.

Depth, detail and less processing artifacts all go in favor of the Samsung.

I take dozens of photos with both every week. Do you?

Samsung flagships don't lag anymore

No more than any current iPhone
That has not been the case with my s8 Plus. I have many more freezes and lag than I did on my 7 plus. To the point where I'm almost ready to switch back despite the beautiful hardware.

This has not been my experience. My 7 plus photos have been significantly better than those I can get with my s8 Plus with very few exceptions.

Question regarding Androids and lag…

Could this be attributed (even partially) to the fact that many device owners do not seem to engage in periodic maintenance?

Generally I find that people install stuff, forget about things and just keep right on going. There never seems to be any attempt to clean up.

I know with iOS that Apple intends for this to not be something you're supposed to think about, but there are a number of apps on the iTunes store that are maintenance oriented.

I have one that I got a long time ago that recovers space on the filesystem. I've used it stock. I'm jailbroken though so I have other means such as iCleaner Pro.

Periodically I'll use both to maximize performance. But stock, there's ways to do things with iTunes as well such as getting rid of your "Other" space.

So, I'm wondering if this is brought over to Android? Do people just use these devices and not think about maintenance?

It's Android, which is a bit more open so there has to be apps in the store that allow for periodic maintenance right?

And if so does this maintenance reduce or eliminate lag? Or is this simply because of the hardware?

I'm not saying that I don't want phones to keep getting more powerful, but for most people, it's been overkill for a while already.

The Samsung phone might look great but when it doesn't work great you'll remember why you had an Apple

The Samsung will slow down and lag within the year. I've been a user of both Samsung and Apple for years and iPhones have always performed pretty much perfectly for the entire duration I've had them. My S7? I've had it since it was released and it's laggy and slow now compared to the iPhone.

They're great phones, really nice and good competition for the iPhone but they just don't hold up as well as iPhones do. Which is fine if you're the type of person to upgrade every year, but if you wanna keep hold of it for 2/3+ years, you'll see the issues with it quick.

iPhones will get a little funky with performance if you don’t do a full restore at least once a year. Stability goes down and the memory gets devoured by “other” crap in large quantities.
