Well I was sitting patiently with my 6S to see what Apple would announce last week.

The iPhone X is just ridiculous in terms of price (and the cutout) so I wouldn't even consider that.
The iPhone 8, I just don't see this as an upgrade from my 6S, aside from the camera and a couple of spec bumps.

I've been tempted with the Samsung S8 for a while and decided to take the plunge on Friday, replaced my 6S and Apple Watch Series 2 with S8 and Gear 3 Frontier.

The S8 is just a gorgeous piece of tech, the screen is outstanding and just a pleasure to use, I like the look of the Frontier, looks more like a real watch and it can be set to always on. I've only used them for a couple of days but so far I'm happy I made the right decision.

Don't get me wrong I'm not an Apple hater, they just didn't do enough to resist the temptation from Samsung. :)

Good luck with that slow snapdragon chip. enjoy!

Samsung? Been there. Great hardware. Mediocre software. Lackluster support. Unfortunately for my wallet, software means more to me than hardware.
That was years ago. Software is great now. Can't say the same for their support however.

I sold off my 7 plus and got the s8 plus on release day. Broke it the first week, when it feel off my bedside table and hit my bed rail. Disappointing since my 7 plus has done the same a few times and didn't break. The s8 plus is by far the best android phone I have ever used, granted my experience with them is limited. Although I am going ba can to the iPhone. Preordered an 8 plus just to get me by until the X comes out. My main complaint? Customer service. The charging port is loose on my s8 plus. Called Samsung on it and they told me my only option is to send it in and be without a phone for 9-11 days. I cant be without my phone for that long since I use it for work. I also have the gear s3 frontier. That watch is at home run all the way imo. Not a scratch on the thing and I can't count how many times I have knocked it into metal objects, or accidentally scraped it on cement walls. Now I'm trying to contemplate if I want to order an  watch series 3. I wasn't too impressed with the original  watch, and I feel like it's super fragile. But surely things have changed 2 generations later.

8 Plus has a glass back. It will break the same as that S8 did. So be ready.

4K @ 60fps encoding HEVC.

Only recently (year or so) have DSLR cameras capable of such dropped below the 2000 dollar mark. Many of these cameras lean heavily toward pros. While admittedly DSLR cameras offer many more features and benefits (color and dynamic range) the processing power involved for 4K 60fps encoded using HEVC was a limitation reserved for $10K+ cameras a couple years ago.

Samsung recently updated the Note 8 specs to include 4k 60fps. Realistically I would image they are just going to use h264 resulting in lower quality and/or larger file sizes (probably a combination of both). If not, and the Note 8 was capable of 4k 60fps from the start then they were just holding onto the feature for the next Galaxy phone until Apple annouced it.

I'm curious how Apple is going to deal with the file format when moving the videos off the phone. Computers it's fine, most PCs can decode HEVC in software. That is great for people editing and exporting in a different format. However what about a transfer for sharing locally? Transcode on the fly? Error?
https://www.neowin.net/news/samsung...ot-getting-support-for-4k-60fps-video-capture

unfortunately, 4k 60fps is debunked..

I think the firmware update on the Exynos is still happening though to support 4k 60fps.
Samsung has the ability to bring 4k 60 fps, but it's going to be specific device though. Only Enxyno models could do it at this time. But ONLY Exyno which could go up to 120fps. I don't know if it's going to be Samsung's best interest to release this at this time.

All of these companies make great products. I am getting an 8+ but had the Note 7 and loved it. I am greatly interested in the pixel xl 2 and the lg v30 looks great. It’s a great time to be a consumer.

No reason to hate any of them. They each have a niche.

After owning every iPhone from the original until the 6 Plus, I decided to leave the apple ecosystem at the launch of the 6S. I moved over to the Note 5. Later, I grabbed a Huwaei Android Wear Watch that was gorgeous and caught the eye of everyone.

A few months in, the problems began showing up. Android was a fragmented mess. My Note 5 was full of bloatware from AT&T and I couldn't get any system updates. To make matters worse, the Note 5 couldn't make it through a light day of use and had to be recharged by the evening.

I took a loss on the phone by about a hundred bucks and sold it. I got out of my AT&T next agreement and grabbed a Google Nexus 6P. The phone was so much better than the crap Samsung puts out. I didn't have any bloatware and my phone wasn't bogged down and crashing every few months. (I hated having to wipe it every few months). But the Nexus 6P was not fully supported on AT&T and I couldn't use a "Bring Your Own Device" on the network with Voice over LTE. AT&T doesn't allow that except with iPhone.

To make matters worse, I couldn't participate in any iMessage group threads. My entire family use iOS and I would miss every group message from the IOS side.

Then the issues with Android Wear showed up. Android Wear is probably the worst OS I have ever seen in my life. Seriously, DO NOT BUY IT! Samsung has a much better watch OS so you definitely made the right call there.

I moved back for the launch of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus and will never go back to Android. Apple's devices are much better IMO and I couldn't get support for my hardware or help with any other issue I had. But being a power user, Android was a nice experience--especially a Pure Android device.

Good luck to you but if your household, friends, and/or family use iOS, expect to have a lot of issues getting texts from them.

I have a S7 Edge and my wife an iPhone 6 Plus. We have zero issues texting. I even do group text with them.

All my family except me use iOS and we have no issues texting each other. Sounds to me like you didn't have the experience to fix the issues you had.

Nice, it’s good to try out different things. I stick with IOS because I like iMessage and I like that I can text from my iPad, basically the ecosystem.

The A11 processor is an amazing piece of tech. That keeps getting overlooked in these post-keynote discussions.

Why does it matter what chip is in it as long as the device runs smoothly and has good battery life? A10 was doing just fine...so was A9. Chip is never a selling point in smartphone especially with Apple finding ways to slow down your phone after a couple of years regardless.

I currently have the Galaxy S8, but I'm going to try out the iPhone 8 plus. Last iPhone I owned was the 6+ and the user experience was phenomenal. I love the tech crammed into the the Galaxy line of phones, but sadly I've already experience some issues with my S8. I get strange advertisements like Snickers, DirecTV, and Play Store Games ads. I disabled the iris scanner because it only worked half the time, and the fingerprint placement is atrocious. The camera on the S8 is topnotch, and the screen is beautiful but I feel the iPhone can compete with the sammy's camera and the screen is good enough for me. For me, it comes down to the user interface, so hopefully the refinement of iOS over the years has improved. I'm excited for the change, but also a bit nervous. Just hope the iPhone's screen is good in broad daylight like the S8, and if the camera is half as good as the S8's, I'll be happy.

Everything I said in my post is true. I just thought I would share my thoughts on here.

Slow? It's certainly not slow.

I've just watched this and found it rather informative.

Agree with most of what he said in this review.
I love the design of the Gear 3, love its round face and the OS, so far, seems very easy to use.

He's bang on with the battery life, I wore it all day yesterday, also kept it on in bed to try out the sleep tracking, woke up at 7am and put it on charge for 10 mins while I was in the shower, it is still on 76%.

Awful crappy junk really? Samsung, along with LG, probably make the best TVs you can buy.
I had a Samsung fridge freezer for 10 years and it never failed.

I'm just saying, I love Apple, I love their products but I also like to try others, this level of competition is good for everybody.

Some of Samsung TVs are the top in the industry. That's actually one of the strongest suits is making quality chipsets and displays in their TVs. So that I disagree with you on.
