I just wish Apple would communicate better with us. I sold my laptop and could really use my iPad. I got one email from them saying basically, "remember when you ordered that iPad and we said it was shipping sometime late this month? We are sending this email to remind you that we are going to ship at some unnamed date late this month." Gee thanks for nothing.

I have heard rumors on here about Apple making a public announcement, but they didnt send me, the actually purchaser, anything.

Top story. I got this in an email.

This is what I go in an email...
To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Thank you for your recent order of the magical and revolutionary
iPad 3G.

We would like to confirm that your order will be shipped in late
April as communicated at the time you placed your order. You will
receive a confirmation notice when your order has shipped.

Basically, nothing. Only place I have heard the April 30th is here. It should have come from Apple to me instead of that vague bs I got in the email.

You might want to re-check your email because what I posted to you is the exact same thing that came in the email that I got, and this is the same thing others in this forum have posted earlier. The important part of that email is: "will be delivered to US customers who’ve pre-ordered on Friday, April 30."

This is why everyone on this forum knows about our iPads being delivered to us on the 30th. Apple did communicate this to us - at least those of us that got this exact same info in our email. I find it strange that you would get something different than the rest of us. I'm not saying that that couldn't happen, I just find it strange that it would.

Validating vague email

In defense of last post I received the same vague email dated 4/19. Copied below:
*To Our Valued Apple Customer:

I guess we know what late April is now. I'm a little disappointed, I ordered my 3g in march, also had 2-3 pends on credit card to get me excited. Checking my order status several times a day and have to fly out on the 29th. I was hoping to show off my new gear and now it will be sitting in mt office until I return on the 3rd (hopefully). I would have thought us preorder faithfulls would've gotten a bit more perks. I mean why the particular timing? The iPad is out already, this one just has more connectivity options. There are no secrets to it. I'm bummed and for some silly reason still checking my order status at 4am.

What I posted was a cut-n-paste of the exact thing I was sent on April 19th. And I have received NOTHING since. Which pisses me off. I ordered on the first day in March that I was allowed to.

The communication from Apple has been ****. The people who preordered the wifi version knew their deliver date. The people who ordered LATE for the 3Gs know their delivery date. Why is it so f;ing hard for Apple to communicate MY delivery date, espeically since my card has been charged. A hard charge, not a soft charge or a pending.

Seriously. I don't understand how so many folks are bitching about Apple not giving a precise delivery date, considering that's exactly what Apple did. April 30th.

The story you read on Macrumors cited Apple's official press release. That's usually how it goes - foundation. A cited reference. You know, proof.

So, yes. It is official. Apple told the world (you just weren't listening). April 30th delivery date for pre-ordered 3Gs.

I agree but us overly excited people want to see the money out of there account instead of floating out in the void somewhere not being deducted. Also we wanna see our shipment confirmations it gives us something tanglible and personal to look forward to.

Why shouldnt I expect a company I just paid $1000 to tell me when I can expect delivery of my device? What is crazy is how people act like this is good or normal business practices for anyone other than Apple. Apple issuing a press release does not relieve them of their responsibility to COMMUNICATE with me, the purchaser. Press releases are for public consumption and media attention, not customer communication.

Never in all my time ordering online have I had to go look for a press release to tell me when I should expect my order. Dont act like this is normal business or good business just because Apple is doing it.

AMEN Brother! Perfectly stated...I'm battling APPLE right now on a MBP ordered on April 18...still no word and today is the 7th business day of the 5-7 business days to ship. I won't even go there on my 3G order!

UPDATE!: MPRO is on it's way on the slow boat from China.

Here's the official Apple press release. They did announce a date.

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/04/20ipad.html

CUPERTINO, California—April 20, 2010—Apple® today announced that the Wi-Fi + 3G models of its magical iPad™ will be delivered to US customers who’ve pre-ordered on Friday, April 30, and will be available in Apple retail stores the same day starting at 5:00 p.m.

It looks pretty unequivocal to me. I guess you can split hairs about Jobs not phoning you personally with the info, but it is readily available. My WiFi ipad experience went exactly as they promised it would, aside from some UPS tracking data quirks that were almost entirely self-inflicted by me and others over-obsessing (just ask TechDude, heh). I think the vast majority of you will be fine.

And not to beat a dead horse, but I realize we don't HAVE to click on each new "shipping!" thread that comes up--the reason I click each one is that I *am* vicariously excited for you guys...and then deflated each time when it turns out not to be someone with actual shipping information, but yet another bait-and-switch thread.

i.e., I keep thinking it's going to turn out shipping has finally started, but no. But you won't see me getting snippy when that finally does happen.

Some of these posts are borderline moronic.

It has been very very clear since last week all over the boards, all over the news, and an Apple correspondence to people who ordered that these units will be delivered on the 30th. PERIOD END OF STORY!

If you think for some reason that Apple give one good g*d dam about your $1000.00 you should consider therapy and medication. What the hell are you going to do cancel your order?, go ahead someone else would be happy to receive your iPad on the 30th that's for sure!

All your huffing and puffing bing threatening and demanding and most of all being impatient gets you absolutely nowhere and is just all the more frustrating for those the rest of us that have to read your little tirades and tantrums.

I totally agree with this. Yes 1000 dollar device warrents close and specific information on shipping. It is bad customer service to say "Uhhhh I don't know when its going to ship I only know the recieve date" I don't know is a no no for business. You say "Let me check for you, It seems that its in a warehouse in the US and they will be overnighted so that you recieve it Friday, your card should be charged that thursday night, does this answer your questions sir?" "yes" "Ok great is there anything I can answer for you?" THATS customer service. Period.

Hmmm...50 posts in the "I got my shipping notification" thread and not one about actually receiving shipping notification.

Hey... we're all excited. And personally I'm too excited, and I have too much time on my hands since I've been on vacation for a month, and won't return to flying (I'm a pilot) til like may 10th. lol. I have nothing better to do.

I doubt they have shipped without being paid for yet.

I've had a few re-auths on my card, but all of them keep dropping off. Apple isn't going to send me anything until they have my money secured.

IDK, I've received items from amazon before the charge went through and I've eaten meals and not been charged until almost a week later.

Hmmm can I book you to China:D

I just got off the phone with Apple, they indicated that my pending charge should drop off by tomorrow or the latest Thursday and I'm schedule to receive my 3G by Friday.

[thread hijack]

do they charge the card at POS or when it ships?

seems like 'when it ships' from the comments. just confirming.

BS. Anyone who buys $1000 worth of goods expects communication about their shipment and customer service. Unless of coarse you are a fan boy.

And your projection of me being "threatening" is just that, ******** like the rest of your post. Quote me where I "threatened" a single thing or ****.
